Edinburgh Hostels

We stayed twice at the Riccarton Inn. It's traditional with a pub up front and rooms at the back. Very clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. This is not a hotel chain but an individual inn. The rooms are not new, nor full of modern amenities as some would require. The mattress was creeky. Nevertheless, if you want a truly Scottish experience full of authentic ambiance, you cannot beat Riccarton. We ate breakfast and dinner in the inn and found them delicious. Had to hop on a couple of buses to get there from the airport, but that was part of the fun!

Another night staying at this hostel. We stayed in a six-person female dorm. Except that the drainage is quite bad at the shower room, and the bunk bed is noisy when i move, everything is good and clean. A good choice for budget traveller!

This is a very interesting hotel in a converted church, the staff are very nice, friendly and attentive. Because it is a historical building, there is no way to remodel it. The rooms are still relatively large. There are collective kitchens, movie rooms, and few single rooms, so it is more convenient to wash in the public bathroom. It's still fun to feel the unique atmosphere.

The room was very clean, but we had to share the bathrooms with some really messy people who left everything disgusting. Though, I have to admit, the staff cleaned it up super fast. The shower doors weren't very secure; they'd open with just a touch, and there wasn't much privacy, especially considering it was a mixed-gender bathroom. On the bright side, the water was very hot, and there was heating in the room, so we weren't cold. It's worth noting that we were in the pub area, so there was a fair bit of noise and music at night, but it didn't bother us too much. We did miss having a kitchen, like some other hostels provide.

One of the absolute best hostel in Edinburgh! Incredible facilities, super clean rooms, and the most helpful staff. It’s located in the best neighborhood, just a short stroll from The Meadows. If you visit during cherry blossom season, the views are magical as the park is covered in pink petals. LOVE IT SO MUCH. Will definitely return!

It is the college dormitory that opens for traveler/visitor during the peak season in Edinburgh. Overall, it is okay to stay as the hotel near downtown is fully booked during the festival. The staff at the front desk is nice.

The staff were nice, the bed and the toilet was clean. However, the bathroom was dirty. The sleeping experience depends on the people in the room. Mine was bad because people in the room with me was loud even at 11PM. There was a bar on the ground floor. There was also a kitchen for people to use which was nice. Do I recommend this? If you're saving money, yes. But i recommend bringing slippers to be more comfortable and a lock for your bag for safety.
