MMark J GWe loved our stay. The location is great. Walking distance to lots of restaurants, markets and the esplanade. The rooms are spacious with nespresso style coffee machines and various teas complimentary in the room. The TV had lots of free on demand movies too. The breakfast was not included in our stay but we dined once and it was great value for what was on offer. I would recommend it and stay again.

GGuest UserWe stayed in an executive room on the eighth (of nine) floors in mid-July.  The executive lounge was generally poorly stocked and food and drinks often unavailable with no staff around for over a couple of hours at a time. We were here for seven nights, so have a reasonably good time frame to judge.  The swimming pool is surprisingly frigid in July, actually unpleasantly cold when there was any kind of breeze or cloud cover.  The bathroom shower drainage was not ideal: every short shower resulted in puddles on the bathroom floor; long showers meant the whole floor was covered in standing water.  Every time the neighbors used the spa or coffee machine, the noises were very loudly transmitted into our room.  The balcony was very nice and the wicker furniture comfortable.

MMarco Polo The TravellerLate check-in was allowed and a special arrangement for late check-in was made by the duty manager. Appreciated. The location is good, which is next to Cairns train station. Very convenient if you will take the Kuranda train at Cairns train station at 0830. Also, it’s a walkable distance between the hostel and reef fleet terminal. Booked a room for 2. The room was clean and spacious in which a few cabinets were provided. Your own padlock was required if you wanted to lock the cabinets. No Hairdryer was provided as a hostel. There were a small swimming pool, big common area and a big kitchen.

GGuest UserThe room was very clean. There was a ********* lady at the front desk who could speak Chinese. The hotel has a special menu every day. When we arrived, it was steak night and the steak was quite big. There was room cleaning service. The environment was very quiet. It was very close to the pier and it was very convenient to eat around.

GGuest UserWe stayed 2 nights, mainly to be close to the Cairns Train station for the Kuranda scenic train trip, and to be able to cook in our own kitchen. It's a short walk to a major shopping centre. The apartment was clean and spacious but nothing to brag about. Everything worked fine. The staff were very nice and helpful. Our room, facing a street, was a bit noisy especially with the garbage trucks. All up...can't complain...but nothing fabulous.

WWillI recently stayed at Hides Hotel during a trip to Cairns and was pleasantly surprised by the value and charm this heritage-style hotel offers. The location is absolutely unbeatable—right in the heart of the city and within walking distance of the Esplanade, night markets, Reef Fleet Terminal, and plenty of restaurants and cafes. Whether you’re heading out for a reef tour or just exploring the local area, Hides is a super convenient base. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. It had everything I needed, including air-conditioning (a must in Cairns!), a small fridge, and free Wi-Fi. The building itself has an old-school character that’s a bit different from your typical chain hotels, which I actually really liked—it feels like you’re staying somewhere with history. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, happy to give recommendations and assist with bookings. There’s also a lovely wide veranda on the upper level, which is a great spot to relax in the evening and take in the atmosphere of the city. Only downside was that the hotel is a bit dated in places, and depending on the room you’re in, you might hear a bit of street noise—but that’s to be expected in a central location like this. Overall, Hides Hotel is a great choice for budget-conscious travelers who want clean, central, no-fuss accommodation with character. I’d definitely consider staying again.

EEkwI stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights when I went to Cairns. There was a bus stop right in front of the hotel and it was close to Central, so the location was good. I also wish there was a ventilation fan in the bathroom. It was hot like a sauna during the shower.

PPHILLIP JAMESThe Mantra Hotel has outstanding location. It is directly in front of the Woolworths supermarket - the best option in central Cairns. It's also virtually opposite (the esplanade side)the lagoon public beachfront swimming pool. Finally it's just a 5 minute walk from Cairns Cruise Terminal, with outstanding day trips to Green Island, Fitzroy Island and the Reef. I booked a sea view room. When you enter the room, you don't see the ocean, but a building across the road. However, the view from the balcony was amazing. The balcony overlooks the main features of lagoon on the sea front. During the day it is great view - the lagoon pools and sea in the background. At night you cannot see the sea (as to be expected) but you have the amazing lagoon lights, which makes it very desirable and even romantic. Our room was at the end of block, which overlooks a shopping mall (no car noise) - looking right from the balcony is the lagoon view and looking left is a mountain view. However, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm the sun comes directly into the balcony area, which means it unusable until sun sets. Of course if you don't mind baking in the sun on the balcony, this is not really a concern. The room itself is pretty basic. The mini fridge of OK and TV has domestic channels only - no cable TV for BBC/CNN. The bathroom is of a good size. There is combined shower & bath. However, when using the shower, it can slightly flood this bathroom. A shower curtain may be desirable because the glass panel is not sufficient enough. At $225 per night this hotel was not cheap and you can better deals by coming in the off-season OR going bit further down the esplanade, and choosing another hotel. The Mantra does have its own pool and it is wonderfully heated, with normal deck chairs you would expect at 4 star hotel. However, the pool gets very little natural sunlight, because it of its location between 2 buildings. Overall, the hotel has amazing location, and it is still recommended, despite the shortcomings mentioned. My final note: When we checked in, I was impressed with the level of service provided by the receptionist. She had a very welcome attitude and a wonderful personality.

GGuest UserAverage cleaning, the balcony should be a part of the room to be cleaned too. The room was fine ,the spring mattress I usually don’t like was fine to sleep on. Disappointed that I found a dirty bad matt in the bathroom cupboard,so instead we use a extra towel on the floor. Pest Control on the rooms should be good as we had a cockroach in the bathroom and ant in the tea /coffee cupboard. Otherwise position of the hotel is great close to town and some take away food restaurants. Good value , good for business people who travel around and don’t have to stay long.
