Bangkok BTS | What Is BTS in Bangkok?

BTS officially stands for Bangkok Mass Transit System, known as the Sky Train as well. It’s an elevated rail system (above ground level) that runs on tracks. Launched on Dec 5, 1999, the Bangkok BTS has largely eased the city’s bad traffic congestion.

Due to its electric-powered pattern, Bangkok BTS offers quieter experiences and is emission-free, which is good for the environment~

How does the Bangkok BTS work? Which train line should you take? Bangkok BTS operates 3 main lines passing through different attractions along the route.

  • BTS Sukhumvit Line (light green): It runs from the north to the southwest of Bangkok, passing through central Bangkok. Key stations include Mo Chit, Siam (surrounded by malls like Central World), and Chit Lom.
  • BTS Silom Line (dark green): It runs from the west to the south, crossing the Chao Phraya River. Key stations include National Stadium, Saphan Taksin (access to Wat Arun and Grand Palace), and Sala Daeng.
  • BTS Gold Line: It’s a short line. You can take this line to IconSiam, which is a luxury riverside mall with floating markets!

Note: Bangkok BTS operating hours: 6:00 am – 12:00 am (midnight)

It's cheaper than buying a one-day ticket at the BTS ticket counter with cash. So far, I've been able to use it without any problems. It seems like it's okay to buy a lot at once and save up the tickets to use later.

When you get to Chit Lom Station, remember to take the Central Gate 2 from the Sky Bridge and enter the Central Building through Gate 2. Refer to the photos I attached, then go down to the first floor and walk towards the food court. You will see the Klook exchange office.

Traveling back and forth to several stations in one day is very worthwhile. It's convenient and you don't have to buy a new ticket at every station.

Hello. We had a fantastic time checking it out. I was very impressed. I want to come back. Unfortunately, it's crowded. Don't forget the dress code. They sell great pants at the entrance for 200 baht.

The family that was originally scheduled to take a guided tour of Wat Arun had to cancel because their child was unwell, resulting in insufficient participants. The relevant organization immediately called to apologize and process the refund very quickly. We were still in Bangkok when the money was processed and credited to our account. Although it was a pity that the second half of the Wat Arun tour was cancelled, the excellent narration of the first half of the Grand Palace tour made up for it. If I have the opportunity to visit again, I would definitely consider booking this tour again.

It's a worthwhile city attraction, but you can skip the 4D movie. We were the only three people there that day, so we practically had the theater to ourselves. The movie was very short, and it felt a bit like the Taiwanese film "Masa and the Bear." Unless you have very young children, or it just so happens to be the movie I was watching, I found it a bit cheesy.

It says in the book that it opens at 9am, but it usually opens at 10am. By 10am, lots of people start arriving. There are lots of cute items and it's fun. But it's pretty hot! So it's best to take precautions against heatstroke. There's lots of cute stuff, so you'll want to see as much as you can, but don't forget to drink water and take in some salt!

The Four-Faced God in Bangkok is one of the most famous holy places for praying in Thailand. It is very popular and attracts countless believers to make wishes and repay the gods. The advantages include: ✨ High efficacy Many believers said that their wishes came true after sincere prayers, covering career, wealth, marriage, health and other aspects. ✨ Pray for blessings on four sides The Four-Faced God represents compassion, wisdom, wealth and health respectively, and can protect believers in all aspects. ✨ Culture of repaying wishes After making a successful wish, believers will repay their wishes according to their promises, such as offering garlands, wooden elephants or asking dancers to perform a dance for repaying wishes. ✨ Convenient transportation Located in the center of Bangkok Take the BTS to Chit Lom Station is easily accessible You have worshipped the Four-Faced God since childhood and all your wishes have come true🙏🏻 It is really rare🩷 Each time you worship the God, you also show your sincerity and gratitude Such beliefs and habits make your life full of positive energy and hope🥰 Do you have any wishes that you want to pray to the Four-Faced God recently💛 Recommendation reason: Believe deeply and it will work

Bangkok offers more public transportation options. If you want to travel far out of central Bangkok, what choices can you make? If you fancy more of the lovely local tuk-tuks, is it possible to make a perfect bargain?

  • MRT (Mass Rapid Transit): An underground subway system in Bangkok. It’s less crowded than BTS. Fares start at 16 THB ($0.49). It can take you to those famous attractions like Wat Arun, Chatuchak Weekend Market, and Ratchada Train Night Market. Trains run from 6 am to 12:00 am (midnight).
  • SRT (State Railway of Thailand): For lovers of suburban areas in Bangkok, choose SRT (the newer Red Lines) to take you away from the bustling city. It also operates the Airport Rail Link (to Suvarnabhumi Airport), cheapest (45 THB/$1.39) & fastest (~25 mins)!
  • Tuk-tuks: These three-wheeled motorized taxis are perfect for short rides in Bangkok. Try to negotiate the fare before you hop on! (e.g., 1-2km: ~ $1-$3)
