Room was clean and staff was helpful. Location is good, close proximity to pedestrian walking street and eateries. The only thing to improve is the breakfast, lack of variety and food is not hot.

The location is fantastic!! Cannot beat this location right on nanjing road. Popular eats such as lailai xlb 2 mins walk away. One consideration tho, for people with accessibility challenges the set up of this hotel is a bit strange. Within the same floor, somehow it’s separated into two levels. You need to climb up a narrow staircase to get up to your room for some rooms. This was a bit challenging with the suitcases. Other than that, can’t complain with this location.

The hotel is very clean and the room size is just right—not too small and not too big, making it comfortable to stay. The staff are friendly, helpful, and provide good service throughout the stay. The location is convenient, about a little over 1 km walking distance to East Nanjing Road, a major shopping area. Right next to the hotel is a FamilyMart, and there is a Luckin Coffee shop just across the street, which is very convenient. Breakfast coupons are provided, and you can simply cross the street to have breakfast at a nearby restaurant. Overall, a great choice for anyone looking for a nice, clean hotel near shopping areas. 😊

The hotel is located near Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street in Huangpu District. Pros: 1. **Excellent Location** * Situated in the heart of Nanjing East Road's commercial area, it's close to attractions like The Bund, Yu Garden, and People's Square. The subway station is within walking distance, offering convenient transportation. * There are plenty of shopping and dining options nearby, making it ideal for travelers who enjoy urban convenience. 2. **Well-equipped Business Facilities** * The hotel features meeting rooms and a business center, suitable for business travelers. Some rooms are equipped with office facilities, and the internet connection is stable. 3. **Service and Cleanliness** * As a brand under the InterContinental Group, the service standards are high. The front desk is responsive, and room cleaning is thorough. 4. **Good Views from Some Rooms** * High-floor rooms offer expansive views of Nanjing East Road's streetscape or the city skyline. --- Things to Consider: 1. **Slightly Dated Facilities** * The hotel opened a while ago, so some areas have a more traditional decor, and room facilities might seem a bit old-fashioned. It may not suit travelers looking for trendy designs. 2. **Fluctuating Prices** * Room rates can be high during peak seasons or holidays, so value for money needs to be assessed based on the time of year. 3. **Noisy Surroundings** * Due to its location in a bustling area, lower-floor rooms might be affected by street noise. It's recommended to choose a higher floor or a room facing away from the street. 4. **Average Dining Experience** * Breakfast offers a good variety, but nothing particularly stands out. There are many dining options nearby, where you can try local specialties. --- Summary: * **Recommended for:** Business travelers and first-time visitors to Shanghai who prioritize convenience. * **Consider carefully if:** You have high expectations for hotel design or a quiet environment. * **Tip:** Book in advance and keep an eye on prices. Opting for a higher-floor room is recommended for a better experience. Overall, this hotel's prime location is its strongest asset, making it suitable for travelers whose primary need is convenient transportation.

Stayed for 7 days in the Family room in Dec 2025. Overall it was a comfortable stay although the hard product was old. Room was spacious with one king bed (good for 1 adult and 2 small sized kids) and a single rollaway bed (good for 1 adult). It came with a free mini bar (1 round) and we could get bottled water from housekeeping or from the hotel lobby. There was a stench in the toilet (suspected backflow of air from the sewer) which housekeeping attempted to solve by covering the drains using tissue paper. Hotel location was good, situated along the shopping street and subway. It is also within walking distance from the bund. Hotel service was relatively lacking. No attempt was made to assist me with my 4 big luggage at the lobby during arrival and departure. Would recommend the hotel for less fussy travellers who value convenience over services.

The location is great, very close to Nanjing Road and super convenient. The BBQ downstairs is delicious too! The only minor drawback is that the room was a tiny bit small, but everything else was perfect. The guy at the front desk was also very helpful; he even enthusiastically helped me look for a package I couldn't find. The service here is truly excellent.

This is my second time staying here. The hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful. They try their best to accommodate us in all aspects. I bought a pair of shoes that would be delivered to the hotel on the next day, I informed the concierge and they thoroughly went through details of the expected parcel to prevent errors and miscommunication with the delivery. The next day when my parcel arrived, the concierge called and make sure the parcel delivering was the correct one for me. As for the house keeping, they noticed that we drank all 4 bottles of complimentary water everyday and from our 3rd day of staying onward they gave us 6 bottles without our request. Not to mention that I accidentally spilled milk over my bed in the rush, I informed the front desk before we headed out and they enthusiastically told me not to worry they would send the house keeper to change my bed sheet right away. In the morning of our last day, Oliver from the front desk called to confirm our check out and informed that hotel’s check out time was twelve noon. They also asked how many luggage we had and what time would we want the concierge to come collect them which I told them to come up around 11am, and at 11am sharp they rang on my door. Oliver from the front desk came along with the concierge, accompanied us down and helped us through the check out process and luggage deposit. Around 1:30 pm when we came back from lunch, our luggage was ready for us to pick up and headed out to the airport.

The hotel room was rather comfortable, and the location was located nicely in a very busy prime area. I also like that the sink area was outside the room, so it was easy for everyone to get ready at the same time. Area was very strategically located, and was a short walk away from the Metro. Also had a few dining areas around the place, and good shopping areas. Short walk away from the bund. The only feedback given was that the room toilet had a little bit of a sewage smell, and the staff promised to look into it when we check out for future experience.

Choosing the right hotel for my Shanghai trip really made a huge difference! The experience at The Square Garden Hotel Shanghai completely exceeded my expectations, and I just have to leave a glowing review. The hotel's location is absolutely unbeatable. It's just a 4-minute walk to Exit 6 of Xinzha Road Metro Station, and you can reach Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street and People's Square in about ten minutes. It's also super convenient for visiting The Bund and Sihang Warehouse. Right outside, there's the Suzhou Creek scenic walkway, which offers a particularly pleasant night view. The front desk service was fantastic, very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend!

Excellent
EEric ZHThe location and decor are great, retaining the charm of an old building and French design style. However, the room details aren't very user-friendly. For example, the bedside table's power outlet is located between two shelves, so you have to duck down to find it behind the upper shelf, which makes charging difficult if you want to use your phone in bed. Also, the shower door in the bathroom has no handle on the inside, making it inconvenient to open. Overall, it's full of design flair but not very practical. The room came with various utensils but not even a single tea bag. There were surprisingly few trash cans. The hotel room was very cold, and the heating wasn't 24/7, so much so that my son and I both caught a cold on the first night. It got better after the hotel provided a heater on the second day. The shower water temperature wasn't consistent; it fluctuated between hot and cold, and the water flow and temperature were overly sensitive, really testing one's fine motor skills. Rooms facing the street suffered from noticeable car noise from the main road. There's also a bar or entertainment venue upstairs, as we could still hear noise after midnight. Light sleepers should definitely be cautious. The staff were very enthusiastic but not very efficient. For instance, we bumped into staff who said our room could be cleaned when we went out, but it still hadn't been cleaned when we returned. The front desk only provided one set of toiletries during check-in. We had to wait a long time and prompt them before the heater was brought up. It seems there's room for improvement in their standardized service training. On the positive side, the lobby staff were very proactive in bringing up food deliveries and would remind us about the hot coffee when we left, which is commendable. In conclusion, the hotel is certainly not bad; it's upper-mid-range for a hotel apartment. However, considering the price of 3500 a night and its ranking as 8th on Shanghai's luxury hotel list, it's definitely not worth it.

TTheGrandExperienceWe booked two rooms here for six people. This particular room had a small kitchenette and laundry, so we were able to do our laundry and it was very helpful…they also have a public laundry room available on the sixth floor if you book a room without one. They offer evening snack between 9-10:30pm with congee and a few other simple items which is nice to have after a long day of walking. The location is about a 15 minute walk to the Nanjing pedestrian Street and there are a few restaurants and a 7-eleven right next to the hotel. There is a subway station which is super close but we ended up using Didi everywhere we went. Great place to stay.

__WeChat29553****The hotel's location is excellent, making it very convenient for my mom's class reunion. Her classmates, all in their eighties, met up on Nanjing Road, enjoying a quiet spot amidst the bustling city. There are plenty of local eateries and restaurants nearby, so you can easily find food right outside. My mom was very satisfied with her solo trip this time.

HHuangyiWe stayed at a hotel apartment with my child during the summer break. We chose the nearby Plus Hotel, which has a great location. The soundproofing was excellent, so it was completely quiet. Our loft room was very spacious and had ample storage. Overall, it offered excellent value for money. We'd definitely prioritize staying here again if we visit the Bund in the future.

GGuest UserBeing located close to Nanjing East Road, it's incredibly convenient to get anywhere. Given its prime location, we didn't expect a huge room, but it was spotlessly clean and very comfortable – you could tell the cleaning was done with great care. The lady at the front desk was exceptionally friendly and helpful, patiently answering all our questions. Accommodation is such a vital part of any trip, and this charming little place truly made our stay even more delightful.
