My friends and I, each with our little ones, decided to travel to Shanghai. We booked this guesthouse as a last-minute alternative after cancelling our original hotel (because the beds were too small). We initially chose it simply because it was close by and we didn't want the hassle of moving again. After checking in, we discovered it truly embodied the essence of Shanghai. The house is located in a small, old-style apartment building in a lane, resembling an architectural masterpiece from the last century. Inside, the two bedrooms are spacious, there's an open kitchen, and the entire house has old wooden floors. The Ming and Qing dynasty furniture adds a touch of antique charm. It's also very convenient, with the subway station right across from the complex. Huaihai Road is just a short walk away, and there's also the architecturally distinctive Guotai Cinema – fantastic! The manager even extended our check-out time by two hours, and her prompt and thoughtful response was very considerate. A truly hidden gem of a guesthouse! [Thumbs up]

I booked this hotel for my foreign friend. I looked at a lot of places, and ultimately a guesthouse seemed to be the best value. It had bunk beds, which is a style my foreign friends usually like. The host was also very welcoming and even let us switch to a room where we could stay together for two nights. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes guesthouses and wants to be close to the subway.

Guest UserStayed at this hotel for a concert in Shanghai and had a great overall experience. First off, it's super close to the subway, which takes you directly to the Shanghai Stadium in just a few stops. The hotel's cleanliness was excellent; even though the bathroom was shared, someone was always cleaning it – I'd finish showering and someone would be in there mopping right away. The soundproofing isn't amazing, but it wasn't noisy at all. It's perfect for solo travelers attending concerts or events. Oh, and I found the front desk staff really helpful. Someone even personally escorted me to my room, and late check-out was also an option. If my good review could get me a discount voucher or something, that would be even better!

Guest UserThe room has been newly renovated and, while not huge, it's still quite comfortable. The front desk service was excellent; a gentleman even helped me with my luggage when I first arrived. The hotel's location is fantastic, very close to the 'Jufuchang' area, which is perfect for a city walk and experiencing old Shanghai charm.

Guest UserThis accommodation is in a very nice area. There are many cafés and vintage stores within walking distance, and it’s well connected to public transportation. I was able to reach two different metro stations in less than 10 minutes on foot.
I asked the owner for an early check-in, and he gave me a room that was already ready. Upon arrival, a lady at the hostel welcomes you, and you need to add the owner on WeChat to complete the check-in process.
My room had a small private balcony and was very spacious and clean. The neighborhood is quiet at night, and all the windows have blackout curtains. I would recommend staying here.

Guest UserThis hotel is perfect for a family of three. The bed is large, and the bedding is very soft. The decor is lovely, giving it the feel of an old Shanghai lane house. If you're taking the subway, I recommend getting off at Middle Huaihai Road. The Huangpi South Road exit isn't very convenient with luggage, but from Middle Huaihai Road, it's a straight walk, which makes pushing suitcases much easier.

Nice place to stay but there are a few things to be aware of. Like all places in China there is a registration system. We sent our passports to Andy who was able to do it for us. The neighbourhood feels very safe and has security at the front. All former mansions are subdivided into rooms which are then occupied by many people. As a result, you will share a front door and some of the corridor. Because of this, the rooms are rather close together which meant in the morning you would often hear people cooking, talking etc. and in evening you might hear a bit of snoring. All together it wasn’t bad and it felt more local.
The room itself was pretty well equipped and had two large areas for the upstairs and downstairs. We enjoyed the projector and kitchen. The bathroom’s water pressure/shower head was a little weak and often got a little flooded as we were given disposable linen. The disposable bedsheets were fine but the towels were not really absorbent. The location was probably the nicest aspect. It was nice and uniquely shanghai unlike staying in the newer parts of town.

Guest UserI specifically chose this hostel to experience the old Shikumen lane houses. It's tucked away deep in a bustling alley, and you have to navigate through winding old streets and traditional iron gates to get in. Stepping inside, you're immediately immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of old Shanghai, a delightful surprise for its tranquil location amidst the hustle and bustle. The renovated old house retains its vintage wooden windows and old floor tiles, and the courtyard is filled with greenery. I woke up to the aroma of breakfast stalls from the lane each morning, and in the evenings, I enjoyed the breeze in the courtyard, fully experiencing local life. The beds come with blackout curtains, individual reading lights, and charging ports. Storage lockers are complete, and the bedding is changed daily, fresh and odorless. The bathrooms are cleaned in sections, with 24-hour hot water. The public living area is spacious, with bookshelves, board games, a microwave, and a self-service washing machine – full of thoughtful details. The owner and staff are warm and genuine, proactively sharing local hidden gems for food and off-the-beaten-path routes, helping me avoid tourist traps. Shopping districts and the subway are within walking distance, and there are old-school pastry shops all around. The value for money is absolutely amazing. It's my top choice for solo travelers and students. I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Shanghai!
