Kodhipparu

Aside from the slightly dated facilities and its location outside Otaru city center, there are no other downsides. There's a covered walkway from the train station to the mall, and the hotel is located inside this shopping mall. The mall has many restaurants, and most conveniently, there's an Aeon supermarket. Across the street is the bay harbor, perfect for an evening stroll. The hotel service is excellent. Although the hotel opened some time ago and the facilities are a bit old, they aren't dilapidated. For example, there are no USB ports, which nowadays could be considered an 'old money' aesthetic. I recommend staying for more than two days; one day is too short.

After the summer holidays, taking advantage of a brief dip in prices before the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays, I went to Singapore for a two- or three-day business trip. Ctrip was having its 919 big sale at the time, and I snagged a pretty good deal on a pre-sale package for this hotel. I quickly booked two nights, September 15-16, only to find out they only release two reservation slots per day. Luckily, there were exactly four of us, so it worked out perfectly – any more and we couldn't have booked, any less and it wouldn't have been worth it. For pre-sale packages like this, if you have a larger group, you really need to pay attention to availability. As for the hotel itself, everything was decent, nothing spectacular. The main draw is its excellent location, not far from tourist attractions, and with convenient access to shops, supermarkets, and dining options nearby. The promotional price made it incredibly good value for money.

Overall, the value for money was decent. However, the water pressure in the room was very low. The Chinese butler's service attitude was perfunctory, cold, and of a very low standard. Don't expect her to enthusiastically help you solve any issues immediately; she'll stall for a while and then tell you to figure it out yourself, perfectly embodying the 'Chinese people must exploit Chinese people' tradition. Although the breakfast selection wasn't extensive, it was passable. For snorkeling, it's best to stay in an overwater villa as there are more fish. The weather was excellent with hardly any rain, but it was very windy, and many things got blown away. I quite liked the simple meals at Breeze restaurant, but surprisingly, the pizza and pasta were a bit too salty. The scenery is quite average compared to many other islands. Almost no one participated in water activities. Watching the sunset by the pool was great.
