"The location is incredibly convenient, right next to the train station. Downstairs, there's a McDonald's and a Starbucks, and it's close to the bridge for easy access to boats heading to Mount Rigi. The only downside was the curtains didn't block out much light, so the room was quite bright at night. The evening I stayed, Spain won their semi-final match, and the street below was filled with fans honking horns and celebrating, which was a bit noisy."

"This was the fifth hotel on my trip to Switzerland. It's two bus stops from the train station, but conveniently located right by the stop, so getting there wasn't an issue. The hotel clearly exudes a rich history and old-world charm, with its luxurious European-style decor. I had a bit of trouble initially finding the right entrance and the front desk within the building. I'd actually booked a city view room, but the front desk upgraded me to a stunning lake view room – seriously, you *must* book a lake view! The terrace views were absolutely breathtaking!! The room itself wasn't huge, but it did have air conditioning. The bathroom was a tad small, mainly due to a large, rather useless cabinet taking up unnecessary space."

"Front desk lady was very helpful. She explained us everything patiently. Gave us a map of the city, recommended us best spots. This hotel offers visitor card for the area, that you can use to commute for free in the local area."

"Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The service was excellent, and the room was clean. The location is very convenient, just across the road from the lake, offering beautiful views. It also has its own restaurant. There were quite a few domestic tourists during the summer. All in all, a good experience."

"The hotel is within a reasonable walking distance of the city centre, making it a convenient base for exploring. However, it can get quite noisy at night, depending on people walking past the hotel and other guests on nearby floors, as the soundproofing isn’t very good. The room also doesn’t have blackout curtains, so it gets quite bright early in the morning. The pillows were too flat for my liking, and I didn’t find the bed particularly comfortable. The coffee machine was also out of order during our stay. That said, the staff were attentive and helpful. They kindly allowed us to store our luggage before check-in at no extra charge, even though their online policy suggested otherwise, which we really appreciated."

"Hotel des Balances is a beautiful blend of history and modern comfort, right in the heart of Lucerne’s Old Town. The location is unbeatable — you can walk to the Chapel Bridge, Jesuit Church, and plenty of shops and restaurants within minutes. My room was stylish and very clean, with a wonderful view over the river. The historic facade and murals give the hotel real charm, while the interiors feel elegant and well cared for. The staff were warm, professional, and genuinely helpful — from check-in to recommendations around the city Overall, a fantastic hotel if you want charm, comfort, and a prime location in Lucerne. Highly recommended, especially if you can book a river-view room!"

"Cleanliness and location all good. It’s near a bus stop and we could wait the bus to go to central train station, it’s quite convenient given that we had a travel pass for free. They have hot water provided at reception but the room was quite small and crowded. Overall it’s ok."

The location is excellent, right next to the train station, and very close to attractions like the Covered Bridge and the Octagonal Tower. "First off, the location isn't too far from Lucerne train station. We had a Swiss Pass, so we could take the bus for free. We rode one stop, got off, crossed a road, and turned left – super convenient! Many bus routes pass by, and Chapel Bridge is just a walk away. The hotel upgraded us to a deluxe double room, which was much larger. There was plenty of space for luggage, and it didn't feel cramped at all. The room was clean, and they provided two large bottles of water daily, which was enough for our needs. Everything was great, and the only reason I didn't give full marks was the extra tax charged, as others have mentioned. Initially, the front desk staff was polite. When I showed them my booking confirmation, pointing out that the tax on the order differed from what I actually paid, they looked at it for a while, then unhappily replied, 'I don't know.' I ended up contacting Ctrip customer service. They told me they'd contacted the hotel but couldn't negotiate. Finally, Ctrip customer service said they would compensate the difference with points, which arrived quickly – kudos to Ctrip! Many people have brought up this tax issue, and I'm not sure where the problem lies. Other hotels in Switzerland charged exactly what was stated on the booking. Only this hotel charged differently. Although it wasn't a lot of money, it felt a bit uncomfortable. Also, someone mentioned a 100 CHF deposit per day, which they indeed charged. When I checked out, I specifically asked when it would be refunded, and the front desk said the same day, which it was. In Lucerne, there's a Chinese restaurant called No. 8 that serves delicious Chinese food, completely authentic to domestic tastes. The owner is also very nice and polite."

"The hotel has a very cozy overall feel. The rooms aren't huge, but they're clean, and there's plenty of hot water. Breakfast was a highlight. It's close to Florence's main district, making it convenient for sightseeing, and the Ponte Vecchio isn't far either. Overall, a good experience!"
