"The hotel is very new, and about 90% of the guests were foreigners, which gave it a really nice atmosphere. There was also a welcome drink provided, including alcohol. The front desk staff who checked us in was super handsome, and the room was spacious enough for us to open three large suitcases with plenty of space left."

"This was my second stay at the Washington Hotel in Takayama, and I'll start with the pros. It's incredibly convenient, located directly across from Takayama Station and the Nohi Bus Center. From the platform, it's less than a 50-meter walk to the hotel lobby, which is super handy. For travelers catching early buses to Shirakawa-go, Kamikochi, or Furukawa (especially recommended during cherry blossom season), this location is a huge advantage. All the nearby attractions are within walking distance, and the drugstore, restaurants, and specialty shops next to the hotel are among the last to close in Takayama. This is a big deal because many restaurants and shops in Takayama are quite particular, operating only four or five hours (or even just two or three) a day and often closing three or four days a week. Some restaurants even stop taking customers by 6 or 7 PM. We joked that at night, Takayama is full of 'hungry ghosts' wandering around! The hotel's toothbrushes are still the 'old style' and are much better than those in many other hotels. The triple room layout was well-designed and felt spacious when organized properly. The shower had good pressure and was very comfortable. What needs improvement is the shower curtain – it's too thin, so the strong shower spray easily splashes outside the tub. The breakfast is only a Japanese set meal. I tried it one day, and the taste was just so-so. I skipped it the second day, and it was still the same on the third, so I decided not to eat it again. The breakfast options are too limited; it looks good but doesn't taste great. Other hotel services were still good. The triple room had two trash cans, which shows thoughtful attention to detail. The overall bathroom facilities felt a bit old, and the extractor fan wasn't very powerful... Oh, and the hotel offers a hot spring ♨️ with pretty long opening hours, but I didn't get to try it, so I can't comment. All in all, for this price, being able to stay in such an extremely convenient, central location near the station (and commercial center) is definitely worth it. On a side note, I'm not sure if it's due to an economic downturn or the off-season, but Shirakawa-go and Takayama were noticeably less fun, less interesting to explore, and had fewer good shopping and dining options than my previous two visits. 'Travel early!' is truly not an empty phrase."

"Overall, the hotel was great. The environment and hot springs were excellent, and I have photos and videos to prove it. Dinner was quite plentiful, but breakfast seemed to have fewer options. However, I was particularly impressed by a tall female supervisor in the restaurant who was always smiling and provided attentive service. It was a shame that the air conditioning suddenly broke down when we returned to our room at noon on the second day. It felt like a bit of a letdown. I never expected such an issue during such hot weather."

"This was the best hotel we stayed at during our trip. If you're visiting Takayama, I highly recommend it. It's a century-old building with excellent service. Located near H041 station, hotel staff can also provide a shuttle to H045 station. The hotel has three private baths and a public bath. When we went, the private baths were practically empty, requiring no reservations or queues. There are a few more private baths across the street, but you only need to experience them once. Personally, I think the hotel's private baths are more convenient. Our room had a heater, which was very Japanese. We stayed two nights, and the breakfasts and dinners were different each night. I recommend staying at least two nights for a better experience – quiet and less crowded, it was excellent."

"The staff were very friendly, the hot spring area was spacious with an infinity pool, and the view was fantastic! The room was spacious and clean, the amenities were all of high quality, and the view from the window was beautiful!"

"Stay was worth every penny. Hotel was located very close to train station and bus station so travelling to and out from it was convenient. Check in process was fast and easy to understand. They even had tea ready during checkin Room was decently sized and very clean. I arrived during spring and the beds were so comfortable and warm The highlight of the hotel has got to be the onsen. They have both private onsen that you can book for an hour and common onsen. If you go around midnight (the onsens are open till 1am), its completely empty and you can enjoy it all for yourself. Word of warning though, you can probably be seen if you're standing close to the edge of the public open air onsen so maybe dont do that (or do whatever floats your boat). After the onsen you can help yourself to free drinks and snacks They had beautiful sakura blossoms during that time, and a public foot bath that can be enjoyed by all. I loved my stay here and will definitely return if I have a chance."

"The location is incredibly convenient! It's only a 2-minute walk from JR, 3 minutes from the bus terminal, 10 minutes from Takayama Market, and 3 minutes from FamilyMart. The room was clean and came with a washing machine and microwave. There's an outdoor foot bath on the 9th floor, and indoor and outdoor hot springs on the 2nd floor. The men's and women's baths switch daily, so you can enjoy different styles – so thoughtful! Getting to Takayama from Nagoya and back was super easy; no need for a private car at all."

"November 25, 2025 This was the most expensive and luxurious hotel I've ever stayed at. I was assigned to a 'Jing Suite' in the 'Kou Chu Jing' series. Although these suites aren't as newly renovated as the 'Heki Suites,' they come with a jacuzzi! I didn't even bother with the hotel's onsen because of it. My first jacuzzi experience was absolutely amazing. You pull down the blinds, lie back, and watch the small TV in the opposite bathroom, while powerful jets massage your feet. The toiletries were all Sekkisei or POLA (for use in the hotel only, not to be taken). All the drinks in the mini-fridge were complimentary and could be taken with you. Plus, there was a capsule coffee machine in the room with four free capsule coffee flavors. The view from the living room was fantastic. The toilet and bathroom were two separate rooms; the bathroom was closer to the bedroom, while the toilet was next to the living room outside. It had a motion-sensing light, so if you sat there for too long, you'd have to move or the light would turn off by itself 🤣. I called the hotel three days in advance to pay for an upgrade to the highest-tier 'All Hida Beef Dinner.' All the ingredients were Hida beef, and the menu even listed the cow's name and origin. You could also order à la carte from the hotel's partner sushi restaurant; I added sashimi and vinegar crab, and I was absolutely stuffed. Since I contacted them in advance, they provided a complimentary shuttle service to and from Takayama Station. Upon arrival at 12:30 PM, it was a mini-bus, and the driver (a kind older gentleman) was easy to spot, holding a whiteboard with my name written on it. For departure at around 2:00 PM, it was a fancy black sedan, which looked super luxurious. The Nepalese staff member, dressed in a kimono, escorted me to the room and explained everything in detail. The restaurant also had private rooms. For breakfast, you could choose between Japanese or Western. After much deliberation, I opted for the safe and popular Western breakfast because some of the ingredients in the Japanese breakfast were a bit too healthy and exotic for my taste. The most memorable item was the hotel's dashi-rolled omelet, which was incredibly delicious. Milk, orange juice, and tea were all free and unlimited during breakfast. It truly showed that you get what you pay for!"

"The hotel is very close to JR Takayama Station. After exiting the station, you don't need to cross the road; just turn right towards Tokyu Stay, and you'll find it after passing Ajikura Tengoku. The hotel's decor is very unique. We booked a corner triple room, so the space was incredibly spacious and comfortable. Besides drip coffee and tea bags, the room also provided bottled mineral water. There's an open-air bath on the 9th floor – simply flawless. Before my trip, I read many reviews recommending Hida beef, but to my dismay, I discovered Ajikura Tengoku was closed when I arrived (ugh!). Luckily, I quickly found Maruaki, a famous Hida beef restaurant open year-round. The beef was incredibly rich and fatty – you'll definitely fall in love with Hida beef! I'm already planning to come back next year! 😋"

"This hotel is very new, almost like it was built in a hurry. They used prefabricated construction materials for the structure of the accommodation. The reception area is like a modified shipping container with air conditioning for the staff (check-in is done using a code sent by the hotel). When I checked in, there happened to be staff present who spoke English well. The accommodation has two floors and no elevator. The room was large and clean, and conveniently located in the city center, making it easy to walk to various tourist attractions. There isn't a breakfast area or a common area yet. The hotel provides water from a dispenser and ice. The price wasn't cheap, but not overly expensive either, considering that Takayama seems to be mostly tourists, and the prices for goods and services are generally high. There's still a fair bit of construction going on in the vicinity (both for the hotel itself and other nearby developments)."
