I can not say enough good things about The Apple House. We came to York on our honeymoon. The loft was spacious, there were snacks waiting and a kettle in the room. The bed was comfy. But the true magic is the owners. It’s rare to be treated that well by a hotel. Not only do you get a full cooked breakfast, it’s made to order. It’s served in a lovely room. You get to select the time you’d like to eat from 4 seatings. Danielle went out of her way to help us find our way around York as it was our first visit. But where they went above and beyond was, I am disabled, her husband took our bags up to our room on the top floor while she was helping us figure out where we wanted to go in the city. And then the next day when we asked her how we got to the train station, she literally picked up my bags and walked my husband and I to the train. It was the kindest thing a hotel owner has ever done for us. We will return to York someday and I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

The Galtres... A perfect place to stay in York. Location is great, central, surrounded by pubs, shops, bars, restaurant, a few steps from York Minster, couple of minutes walk to the Shambles, 13 minute walk from the train station. Our room was spotless, checking in was easy, arrived 3 hours early, but room was ready so accessed that straight away. Little bit quirky, I guess no two rooms the same, old fireplace, massive mirrors and a Wimbledon wicker basket at decor. Breakfast was amazing, gorgeous food, great selection and waiting staff always happy to help. Didn't eat there at other times, but the restaurant always looked busy inside and out. Two minor faults, could have squoze a small dressing table/desk into the room, and be prepared for a small amount of noise in the morning with delivery vehicles around, not a big problem though. I would definitely visit again, and recommend anyone visiting York to look at this place as somewhere really nice to stay.

The place was very opulent indeed! We were very happy with our stay. Initially Tammy the receptionist told us that there were limited slots for the spa and restaurant. However the hotel was virtually empty. A party of 16 guests was in during our stay but the hotel was definitely not busy at all. We therefore had to rush to have dinner and only enjoy an hour of our spa visit instead of 2 hours allocated. She told us the only spa slot was 7-9pm (we were the only ones in there) and dinner they only had 6:45, 7 and 7:15pm meaning we got an hour for food and an hour in the spa. This wasn’t a huge issue as we didn’t need more than an hour in the spa. The steamroom was useless. No steam at all even though the attendant reset it. Sauna was great and pool was great. Changing facilities were lovely. Food was nice 8/10. The Amuse-bouche was delicious and a complimentary starter. The mrs loved her venison. My steak was average and the chips also average. Pricey at £92 for the one course but to be expected as the place is very luxurious. Staff were brilliant. Very professional and polite. Breakfast was decent. Staff again were brilliant and boxed one up as the mrs was getting ready we wouldn’t have made the 10am cut off.

I had a comfortable stay at the Holiday Inn York. The hotel is conveniently located about a 10-minute ride from the train station using bus 840 or 843, which made getting there fairly easy. The room was clean, and the bed was very comfortable, providing a relaxing place to unwind after a day of exploring. The only drawback is the distance to the Hop On Hop Off bus pick-up point. We either had to take another bus or walk about 20 minutes to reach the nearest stop, which wasn’t always ideal. Overall, the hotel offers good comfort and cleanliness, but travelers relying on sightseeing buses should plan for a bit of extra travel time.

Room was good, loved that the leisure centre was open till late so could get time at the pool and jacuzzi even after sight seeing. Breakfast was great, nice continental selection, and a picturesque view from the restaurant. Staff were very friendly and attentive. A potential improvement could be the hot water control in the shower - ours was a Deluxe room with bath. The temperature was either scalding hot or ice cold - there was no in-between.
