This hotel boasts an excellent location right in the heart of George Town. It's directly across from the bus terminal and offers easy walking access to the Seven Streets Market (Chew Jetty), Kimberley Street Night Market, and the Street Art area. The front desk staff are warm and welcoming, the rooms are spacious and clean, and the facilities are comprehensive. It's definitely our top choice for accommodation when visiting Penang and comes highly recommended.
Our room faced the TOP building directly, so we had a perfect view of the New Year's Eve fireworks and the sunrise. Since I was traveling with friends, the hotel front desk was very thoughtful and gave us connecting rooms. The hotel is right above a night market, and not far from 7th Street Bazaar, the mural street, and banks, making it very convenient for getting around. We managed to visit all the must-see spots. There's a gym, but the equipment is old, and currently, only the dumbbells are usable.
Excellent Stay with Top-Notch Service!
”Don't let the classic exterior fool you; the interior of Cititel Penang is modern and impressive. I had a fantastic stay here for several reasons:
• Exceptional Service: The front desk process was incredibly fast for foreigners. The hospitality is amazing—there is someone helping you at every step, from the entrance door onwards. I loved the welcome drink and the thoughtful staff who followed up on my Grab Express delivery to ensure it reached my room.
• The Room: Spotlessly clean with a beautiful sea view. They provide unlimited drinking water, and the 'Pillow Menu' is a game changer—you can request silk or memory foam pillows for free!
• Facilities: The gym and pool area are very clean. Although the jacuzzi wasn't very warm, the overall facility is well-maintained.
• Location: Perfectly located right next to a bus stop, making it very easy to get around.
A very clean, convenient, and hospitable hotel. I would definitely stay here again!
Lobby: smooth check in. Well decorated with modern style.
Room: clean, but a little bit small for families with 5 members. Beautiful seaview.
Breakfast: limited varieties.
Cons: requested iron but only received after calling for the 3rd time.
Our stay in the Coast Suite was great! It had two separate rooms, which was perfect for our group as we had different schedules and didn't disturb each other. We shared a bathroom. The hotel facilities were complete, and toiletries were promptly replenished. We noticed the toilet was leaking after checking in, and maintenance sent someone to fix it right away. The Indian housekeeping staff was polite and enthusiastic, and the front desk receptionists were attentive and responsible.
Staying at The Royale Chulan Penang at the end of the year, I was immediately struck by the hotel's exquisite environment. The understated luxury decor combined with immaculate attention to detail truly conveyed a sense of high-end quality. But the most memorable part of this trip was the warmth provided by a lobby staff member named Devika.
Her fluent Mandarin made communication effortless. From the thoughtful guidance during check-in to her meticulous assistance when I checked out on December 13th, everything made me feel incredibly comfortable. Before I left, she proactively helped me call a taxi and confirmed the vehicle details; these thoughtful gestures alleviated the fatigue of travel.
”Malaysian Hospitality” is not just a slogan in Malaysia; it's a genuine sentiment that Devika embodied through her actions. This warm service added an invaluable memory to my trip to Penang.
Facilities: Good
Cleanliness: Good
Environment: Good
Service: Excellent, especially the female staff member named Devika in the lobby. She speaks Chinese and provided exceptionally good and attentive service.
Hotel reception to restaurant staff are polite and professional. They even what's app me after check in to check how is my stay. Breakfast variety and quality is good. Will come back in future
Facilities: The hotel has a full range of facilities, though I didn't use the laundry service.
Hygiene: Decent.
Environment: Pleasant scenery, close to the sea.
Service: The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. Room service was also of good quality.
By far the best hotel I’ve ever stayed, staff were fried my and with polite attitude, one of the staff made initiative to approach me when I’m having difficulty on using the laundry machine. Clean and chic, had a best experience of staying there. Nearby has the famous bakery, massage place and walking distance to food streets and nice cafe. A friendly heads up that the hotel entrance is facing towards the Eastern Oriental Hotel as opposed to Kenny Hills bakery.
It is a beachfront hotel. There is a beach that kids can swim and play there . It’s perfect for family. I like sit by the restaurant to watch the sunset and feel relaxed. The restaurant has breakfast but not variable enough. Beside has a friendly swimming pool for kids . There is a gym next to the pool. It is sea view gym but the equipment in there is not many choices. The hillside room is spacious and clean. But it is near to main road so you can hear the vehicle noise in the middle of night. The staff are very friendly and nice. If you like to eat the local food, there is a local food court in walking distance. There is variety of choices and delicious.

GGuest Userthis hotel is good overall, but when we arrived, they told us that we didn't have a booking with them and they couldn't locate our booking and details. the room was also said to be taken, and they are waiting for a cancellation in order to get our room. There is a lot of confusion among staff. some visitors were told to leave their rooms once they have entered. we waiting 1 hr 30 min to get our room. so check in was at 4.30pm. parking was also very inconvenient, as we had to park at the basement, which was impossible to even get one if you came into the hotel late and a T&G card was also needed to get validated before leaving the hotel if we wanted a free spot. Room was very spacious and clean. the tea and coffee was hard like its never been changed.

SSkumar1973Trip.com should have highlighted that on the day we checked in there was a fire drill!
We could jot sleep or rest after our long drive to the hotel. Rooms very old and outdated. Bathroom was small, the bidet was on the wrong side of the toilet.
Air-conditioning was not working! Maintenance had to chg the filter but still it was bad.
Room slippers was the worst, rooms carpet was coming off the metal strip almost cut my feet.
Breakfast and the staff was a plus, but overall very noisy the room, thet need to call the pest control, I think rats running in the vents!! Great free parking but you have to take a long drive back to the lobby, a huge turn around from the parking... bad experience overall.
CCasreneDuring my booking, I requested a room away from the lift for a quieter stay and also asked for birthday decoration. However, upon arrival, there was no birthday decoration, and the room was located very close to the lift.
The room was on a floor with shared facilities, and the room next door was the laundry room. The towels were dirty, and the shower hanger was damaged.
I contacted the staff to raise these issues. They informed me that my requests were not recorded in their system. I requested a room change, but was told that the hotel was fully booked and no room change could be arranged.
The staff were unable to resolve the issues during the peak season and advised guests to avoid staying during the eve or public holidays.

WWilliamW423The hotel is located by the sea, but due to the heavy rains in 2025, the beach is completely gone, and it seems the state government isn't planning to restore it. The hotel's design is a bit similar to those in Singapore and Sanya, with a fun pool, but the water quality isn't great. The McDonald's across from the hotel is good, and the food stalls to the right when you exit are also worth checking out. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus to Hotel JEN, but you can't bring luggage.
