Location, convenience, beach, ambiance, rooms, entertainment, dining – there's hardly anything to complain about. If I had to nitpick, first, there are too few designated smoking areas! Second, the rooftop infinity pool is strictly for guests aged 18 and above, which feels quite unreasonable. Many guests come with their families, and it's not like you can just ditch your kids to go for a swim. This policy excludes many from enjoying the experience.
For breakfast, try to go early and grab a seat near the water for a great experience.
The hotel is situated on Cenang Beach, which has very fine sand. The water isn't crystal clear, but it's acceptable.
The room's minibar offers a good variety of drinks, plus two small snack bags that are refilled daily by the staff.
You absolutely MUST choose a sea-view room. We opted for the Premium Sea View, which had an L-shaped sofa on the balcony. I actually slept there one night, facing the ocean, under the moonlight, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves – it was absolutely wonderful.
The room was also spacious enough, nearly 70 square meters, making it very comfortable for a family of three.
The gym doesn't have a huge variety of equipment, but it's sufficient and open 24 hours. There are two pools: one for adults and one for all ages.
Regarding food, the hotel has several restaurants, and there's also a beach BBQ with a fire dance show for 198 per person, which isn't expensive. It's also not far from Zhong Hua Seafood Restaurant and Hidden Bar, making dining very convenient. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'll definitely stay here again on my next trip to Langkawi.

Overall, our stay at Pelangi Beach Resort in Langkawi was pleasant, but it did not fully meet the expectations of a five-star property, especially considering the price.
The resort itself is beautiful in terms of location: the gardens are well maintained, and the beachfront is very enjoyable. However, the structure is starting to feel a bit dated and could benefit from some refurbishment.
Our main disappointment was the room condition. The curtain next to the air conditioning unit was in very poor shape—stained and almost moldy—which was quite off-putting. The air conditioning system itself seemed old, very noisy, and difficult to regulate, making it hard to find a comfortable temperature (either too cold or too warm).
On a positive note, the staff was truly outstanding—everyone was kind, welcoming, and extremely helpful throughout our stay. Service is definitely a strong point of this resort.
Breakfast was also enjoyable, particularly at the Malaysian restaurant, where the food quality felt more authentic and satisfying.
In conclusion, while the experience was overall good, the resort feels somewhat overpriced for what it currently offers. With some improvements and updates, it could truly match its five-star positioning. At this price point, however, we would probably consider other options next time.

Best beach view but like the rest of Langkawi it’s just missing a few things. The family pool is sensational…but it’s pebblecrete, so it’ll tear up feet if you’re in there doing anything active. The pool bar opens at midday, so it’s definitely not set for early swimmers who might want a juice and snack. No lifeguard and almost no kids pool area. The pool was 1.1 to 1.5m deep so not toddler friendly.
The rooms were great but limited lift access so a nice 3rd floor view has three flights of stairs.
They have a reading room, which is a nice, air-conditioned lounge, but it only opens at 11am.
The main restaurant has… average food. It’s not what you’d hope. They have the Chefs Table Restaurant wich was more expensive but actually had good food. It was hot in there though. We went in end of March and it was 32/32 degrees every day.
Overall it’s a nice place and close to the mangrove tours but it just falls short of being really good. But that’s pretty much all of Langkawi.
Staff were really nice.
In the middle of the night water was leaking
Into the walkway .Thro lights .rhey couldn’t repair it quickly n it was past midnite .Altho they transfered me to another rom far far away i lost sleep n became a bad holiday it was my last nite .i requested for a refund for one nite but they said they needed some approval n update me on Monday this should not be the case n they shld refund me for the nite ..it caused me so sleepless night n I was very tired

Book sea view studio at a higher price due to the Chinese New Year holidays. Waited for almost 2 over hrs before room is ready when close to 3pm. However was very disappointed when check into room n as seaview studio room on 7th floor is blocked by a hill in the center n major construction looking down from the balcony. Request for a change of room to higher floor, view rooms on 2 other higher floors and finally settled on the 11th floor which is a better seaview eventot the hill in front with construction site is still there. Would rate the hotel only at probably 4 stars or below with average rooms furnishings , average spread breakfast, spots bad maintained cleanliness over the public areas n a rooftop which is squeezing all sunbathe chairs n tables n a bar with an average size swimming pool. Reception staffs are not as well trained but they are trying their best to fulfill most guests queries. The rooftop is quite windy but offers good photo view. This hotel should be relatively new only opened a few years ago but idoesn’t match the prices of a 5 stars or 5 diamonds rated.
This family-friendly hotel is absolutely fantastic! Paired with the beautiful Langkawi weather, it made for the best part of our trip. We stayed for two nights during the Chinese New Year holiday with my whole family, including seniors and kids, in a family suite which was a standalone wooden chalet. The hotel environment is excellent, nestled between mountains and water, and it's also right next to the SkyCab, so you could easily spend two days just exploring the area. We also booked an island hopping tour through the hotel, which was convenient, good value, and a great experience. We'll definitely come back next time we have a chance. A special mention to Sofie at the front desk – she was incredibly nice and gentle, providing an excellent check-in and check-out experience for guests. The hotel's Thai restaurant is great, followed by the Malaysian restaurant. We didn't go to the Chinese restaurant; I just glanced at the menu and decided against it. It felt like over 80% of the guests here were Caucasians, and the overall atmosphere, including at check-in and on the beach, was very peaceful.
The pool is absolutely beautiful, and I highly recommend Straits & Co. inside the hotel. It mainly serves Southeast Asian cuisine and has excellent lighting, facing the outdoor pool. The ambiance is fantastic, and the floral arrangements are aesthetically pleasing. However, the body lotion and toiletries were extremely diluted, definitely watered down. This is unacceptable for a luxury hotel.
My stay at The Datai Langkawi was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the rainforest with direct access to the beach, the resort offers the perfect blend of nature and luxury. From the moment I arrived, I felt a deep sense of peace and serenity.
The service was truly remarkable — every staff member made me feel warmly welcomed and well taken care of. Breakfast was a highlight, with an incredible spread and even free-flow champagne, making mornings extra special.
I celebrated my birthday here and it was the best I’ve ever had — unforgettable in every way. I especially loved the adult-only pool, which was so quiet and peaceful, a perfect place to unwind and soak in the surroundings.
The Datai has left me with beautiful memories and I will definitely return. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a serene, luxurious getaway.

We booked rooms on the first and second floors using two different platforms. I have to call out Dolphin here – you're seriously expensive! No wonder you rake in 200 million a day... Anyway, personally, I prefer the first-floor room. It has a great open view and an outdoor hot tub which feels very exotic for showering. Plus, it's even cheaper than the one upstairs.
The room layout was very well designed and practical. They even had a capsule coffee machine, which was a nice touch. The pool and outdoor areas were beautiful. What I really appreciated was that getting to the beach and pool from the hotel wasn't as far a walk as it often is in China. The breakfast was plentiful, although my Chinese palate wasn't entirely used to some of the offerings. The beach was great for shell-collecting, with lots of shellfish. Overall, a really good experience! Just a heads-up, there's no Chinese-speaking staff, and it's mostly European guests.

AAnonymous UserAn impressive hotel where everything was perfect 😍. What left a lasting impression wasn't just the beautiful scenery, like the ocean views, watching monkeys, and witnessing sunrises and sunsets, but also the staff's smiles and perfectly balanced, warm service. The complimentary mini-bar in the room was incredibly well-stocked, and the quality of the items and every little detail were meticulously chosen. Dining at Haiyan restaurant and Beach Grill, we enjoyed not only delicious food but also the stunning sunset and ocean views. We'll definitely bring more family members back next time!
