I absolutely loved this place! I’m writing this as a foreigner who went with 4 other foreigners for a special birthday weekend. First, the service. We have good Chinese proficiency, but those with limited to none will be fine. Most of the communication and coordination is handled via WeChat - which can auto translate. 东 “Dong” was our main contact. He rocked and gave us a real experience. He shuttled us in the sand jeep, gifted me a cake for my birthday, and was just an overall cool guy. Thanks! Second, the location and accommodations. If you stay near Desert Star, there’s a lot of people and campsites - that area seems like a bit of a tourist funnel. This area is located in the REAL sand dunes area. Further North, you actually cross into Inner Mongolia. The separation and distance is worth it. Makes for brighter stars and a more authentic experience. Third, the food. They were able to coordinate a whole lamb to be roasted for my birthday. It was absolutely extraordinary. The sides for it were some of the best I had on the entire trip - they have some skilled chefs there. This place has great reviews, and it’s worth it. I do recommend this to foreigners, and I hope I can return one day.

The owner contacted us and picked up us up from the Zhongwei Nan Station. It is pretty far away from the Zhongwei's downtown, and Tengger Desert is actually already counted as Inner Mongolia. We came there at the low season, and the weather was quite freezing. Luckily the owner had informed us about the weather, so we changed our booking in time. Even with a heater the room was still pretty cold. I can't imagine if we booked a tent. The scenery was beautiful enough. Not too many events because there were not many tourists, thus we had a good relaxing time there. The breakfast was simple ane satisfying. We enjoyed the meals. The owner also gave us some souvenirs when we left the camp. Note: We wished that there were a sweeper in the room. We would carry some sand in every time we got into the room. It would be great if there's a mat in front of the bathroom.
