"The hotel is aesthetically pleasing, has old world charm yet modern. Breakfast is good though sometimes a long queue is formed outside the restaurant. But my check in was very disappointing. First the time it took for that staff to process it led me to think either their computer is not working or there's a problem with my booking (but I have received reminder from Trip.com. Worst, that staff asked me to pay a sum which is about £100 more than the stated sum on my hotel voucher ( he even said specifically ”For the first night the amount is xxx, and for the second night, the amount is xxx, with a security deposit of £50, the total is £4xx.”I told him he made a mistake as the sum stated in my printed voucher is only £3xx. That staff is either incompetent or not trustworthy, and should not be working on front desk. ALWAYS CHECK THE PRICE ON YOUR VOUCHER."

"This new hotel is very clean and perfect location except the door lock is not working properly.  It is not perfectly fit and the room except to pull harder to lock it.  Besides, the room has no telephone which causes inconvenience if you need help. I spent an hour to keep going down to look for help several times.  I suggest the hotel could leave a note of the front desk phone.number for the clients convenience 🙏🙏"

"Having lived in Cardiff for decades, I always thought the Raddison Blu looked smart.  First time trying there and I was really disappointed.  It's shabby, the room was really stark and overall it needs some attention.  Reception was full of leaves and granted that the weather was a bit grim, but it gave a dreadful first impression.  The room was very disappointing - painted blue and really really stark. Huge bed (two singles pushed together) a desk and some weird little table - all furniture was bashed and scratched and the room was a very odd layout. The bathroom was decent (and made the room look worse because it was quite modern) but the shower door wouldn't stay closed so the floor was sopping wet.  Despite the website saying that every room had a hairdryer, I had to ring reception to request one.  The bed wasn't too bad but they have to be the worst pillows I've ever slept on - hard doesn't come close.  Overall, I wouldn't stay there again and feel there are far better hotels in the area for the same money which were more welcoming, more modern and less bleak!"

"Came here with a friend and overall had a good experience. The staff were very friendly. However, the location was a bit hard to find. Even though it's right next to the train station, it's not very obvious. We couldn't find it at first. Later, when we ordered food delivery, the delivery person circled downstairs for over ten minutes trying to find it, and I eventually had to go out in the rain to meet him 😂 The room was quite small, like a renovated budget hotel, but it had all the necessary amenities. For the price, I was generally quite satisfied. Our window faced the train tracks, but it wasn't too noisy."

"I had a very good experience staying at Hilton Cardiff. The hotel felt extremely safe and well managed throughout my stay. One thing I noticed is that they are very strict about not allowing visitors after 9 PM. At first, it was a bit disappointing, but honestly, it also made me feel much safer knowing they take security seriously. The service was excellent from beginning to end. The staff were always kind, attentive, and always willing to help with anything I needed, which made the whole experience feel very welcoming. My room was comfortable, clean, and well maintained. It was also cleaned during my stay, which I really appreciated and added to the overall comfort. The location is another big advantage the hotel is just steps away from Cardiff Castle, making it perfect for exploring the city. It’s also only about a 20 minute walk from Cardiff Central railway station, which made getting there and around very convenient. One morning I decided to try the breakfast buffet, and it was definitely worth it. There were many options to choose from, including pastries, hot food, fruit, and drinks. They also had coffee machines with very good coffee, which made the breakfast experience even better. Another highlight was the bar downstairs it had a great atmosphere and was a really nice place to relax after a day of exploring. Overall, I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cardiff, especially if you value comfort, excellent service, a great location, and above all, feeling safe during your stay."

This hotel is particularly popular with those traveling with families.

"The room was average with no ceiling lights but both double beds were comfortable. The bathroom has a bathtub and it’s a pretty high climb for an average height person to take a shower. Plus the floor always got super wet because of the shower water. The shower was also broken so there was more water leaking behind the shower than on the person bathing. There are no face towel hangers and the heated towel hanging rod was not heated at all. The buffet had the exact same things everyday, including the cut fruits 🫣"

"Decent hotel, centrally located close to the train station making it a very convenient place to stay. Staff very welcoming and took into account my special request and booked me a quiet room which was appreciated. Breakfast, nothing special, just like any other hotel breakfast in the uk. Good views at the breakfast area, staff on hand to help and often going out of their way to help. Service was 10/10. Rooms themselves felt a little old and could do with a touch up but comfy enough for a short stay! Coffee machine too!"

We stayed for two nights as our bathroom is being replaced at home. This is a former Premier Inn which retains the 'footprint' and build/comfort standard of a PI. The rooms have showers instead of baths which is perfect for me. I rang ahead and requested a ground floor room which was honoured- we were given room 2 which met our needs and requirements. Bed was really comfortable, tv had limited channels but I was able to log into my Netflix. There is hanging space for your clothes, a hair dryer and plenty of sockets, none by the bed though. The WiFi was adequate for our needs. There is free, secure parking provided at the rear of the hotel - you need a code to exit so as safe as can be. No noise considering the M4 motorway and main A48 sandwich the hotel. There is a restaurant for food but we didn't use it. Menu was a bit pricey but has good reviews. All the staff that we met were friendly. The Receptionists were lovely and a big shout out to Alice who sorted our return visit next week when we get back from holiday. For the money it's excellent value for a clean, friendly place to stay.

Great location to the city centre, car park at hotel with 55 spaces and at a rate of £25 per night, very secure and well lit. Staff very friendly and available 24 hours a day. We had a free upgrade to a Kings Superior Suite which was a very spacious room, although the bathroom was quite small compared to the room size, non the less was a nice touch and discount coupons in with our key card for 10% off food and drinks and four vouchers for free coffees, which also was a nice touch. Will definitely stay here again.

I have a really mixed feeling about this hotel. I booked the superior room with tree lined view and asked for a quiet room: the receptionist gave me an extremely cold and noisy room right next to the motorway and above some nightclubs. My watch has identified the noise level is over the normal limit. I couldn’t fall asleep due to the loud noise even at midnight. I called the receptionist to change a room. Unfortunately, they first gave me a standard room that the heating system was not working and much smaller than I have paid for. The two maintenance officers who came to check the heating system are very helpful and suggested to change to another room. Only by then, I was able to change to another room that matched the similar sized of a superior room, but without tree lined view. I must say that all the receptionists were friendly and polite but behind their friendliness, they are not really helpful at all. I had my dinner, a sea bass meal, at the restaurant - see the photo. The dinner and the service was both outstanding. The kettle in the room was not very clean; it could easily be cleaned by using small spray to remove the calcium. The gym and swimming pool are excellent. If you are not used to live in really loud room, please double check with the receptionists. It is also not worth to pay an extra 10 pounds per night to get a so called tree lined room with extreme loud noise. I also wonder the reason for the hotel to give customers rooms that the heating system are not working. It would helpful to check before they allocate room to customers. It would also helpful that the hotel ensure that the room has reasonable temperature before admitting guests, esp on a very cold winter night. Overall, this is not a very good experience. I was not able to sleep for a whole night. I paid extra in the hope of getting a better and quiet room but ended up with one of the worst room without getting any compensation.

I really enjoyed my stay overall. The location was fantastic—on a beautiful street—and the hotel building itself is stunning. When I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by a very kind Italian gentleman, which gave me a great first impression. My room, though located in a separate area, was clean, modern, and nicely decorated. Everything looked fresh and well thought out. However, I was disappointed to find visible stains on the bed sheets. While I believe they had been washed, the stains hadn’t come out and the sheets were still used, which didn’t match the high standard the rest of the hotel presented. I think they should have replaced them. Another minor inconvenience was the bathroom light, which was automatic and triggered the extractor fan. This meant that even during the night, using the bathroom caused the noisy fan to stay on for a while, which could’ve been avoided with a manual light switch, in my opinion. Despite these issues, the stay was mostly very positive, but I can’t give a full five stars because of the sheets. Hopefully this can be improved for future guests.

Good location not far from centre of Cardiff. Service was poor, receptionists seemed like they didn’t want to be working there and breakfast staff like their family had just died. The stay was really good overall the room was clean, comfortable, and everything went smoothly. The staff were friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. However, I was a bit disappointed that I had to pay £16 for parking for the whole day. It would have been nice if parking was included in the stay or at least offered at a reduced rate for guests. Apart from that, everything else was great and I enjoyed my stay

stayed at this hotel and used the spa many times before and have always had a much better experience, which is why I chose to return. Unfortunately, my stay on 27 May 2026 was extremely disappointing. When checking in, I was asked if I would like breakfast and was told it was very nice. Sadly, the breakfast was awful. The bacon was so hard it could barely be cut, the sausages were stone cold, and the rest of the cooked breakfast was dry and cold. I mentioned this to a waitress, who showed no concern, and when I raised it again at reception and asked for a refund, I was refused. I have attached a photo showing the quality of the breakfast. I was also disappointed to discover there was an additional charge to use the spa. I booked through Trip.com, and nowhere on my booking confirmation did it mention extra spa fees. When I queried this at reception and showed my booking details, I was simply told I should have checked the hotel’s website. I do not feel this is acceptable, as any additional charges should be clearly stated at the time of booking. What disappointed me most was the lack of customer service throughout my stay. My concerns about both the breakfast and the spa charges were dismissed rather than addressed, and staff showed very little understanding or willingness to help. This experience was completely different from the positive stays I have had at this hotel in the past. Sadly, based on this visit, I would not recommend the hotel and will think very carefully before returning. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and works to improve both the customer service and overall guest experience.

I’m so glad we decided to stay at The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff. I’d been given the very important job of finding a place to stay overnight for my friend’s special birthday. I didn’t really know where to start, so I compared prices of hotels in the area. I was surprised to find that the ‘budget’ hotels Premier Inn and Travelodge were no cheaper than The Coal Exchange for the given dates! I had a look at the photos and reviews and it looked perfect for a special occasion. It was steeped in history with the interior design staying true to the period in which it was built. Originally, as there were five of us, I had booked the sextuplet room. It looked amazing and we were all really excited about staying there. Unfortunately though, due to maintenance work being carried out on that part of the building, we had to change our plans to three double rooms right next to each other. The rooms were beautiful. Floor to ceiling double windows, opulent wallpaper, ornate period furniture and a lovely comfortable centrepiece bed. The bathrooms had gorgeous jacuzzi baths and stone basins. The following morning we had a delicious breakfast in Culley’s Restaurant situated inside the Coal Exchange. The staff here are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have the best stay. Can’t wait to go back.

The hotel is in a great location with easy access to the city centre, restaurants, and public transport. The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, making it easy to relax after a long day. The staff were friendly, and the check-in process was quick and smooth. I stayed during the summer, and the room became quite warm because there was no proper air conditioning or cooling system. The TV in the room was also not working during my stay. Apart from these issues, everything else was good. Overall, I had a pleasant stay and would consider staying here again because of its excellent location and comfortable rooms. If the cooling system and TV are improved, the experience would be even better.
