"Hotel was located across the road from the city walls. A 5min walk to the University of York St John. The amenities at the hotel were excellent. It had a small gym located opposite the main reception where guests had 24 hr reception. There was parking available on site at a cost of £25 for 24hr parking. May be cheaper elsewhere but it was very convenient. Staff allowed us to park for extra few hours free of charge. Although we did not pay for breakfast on site it was very well stocked and wildly used by other guests. Room was clean and modern. The A/C was not that affective and did not cool the room down. Which made it a little uncomfortable to sleep at night. It was a hot day and the room was located in a loft conversion. Heat would not normally be an issue."

"Get off the train at York and literally straight into this fab hotel. A step back in time with beautiful lounges to eat and drink in. Stunning gardens. Beautiful feel of Xmas with stunning trees and decorations. The New Year's Eve main meal was lovely, but would give the starter a miss, valute not for us. More plus's than negative's. Garden view room was cold with old sash windows, but comfy bed and clean room. Lovely view"

"The hotel is very clean and the room was spacious. The breakfast was the best among all the hotels I visited in UK in the past two years at this price. It’s just opposite the train station and there was a good Chinese restaurant- Red Chilli - close by. The hop-on-hop-off bus is just outside the train station. Everything is so convenient."

"A very convenient location located within the city centre of York. There are numerous bus stops just located within 3 mins of walking making it very easy to travel to rail station or designer outlet. Moreover, there are numerous groceries such as saintsbury, Tesco and M&S foods. 10mins walk to York minister. It comes with complementary breakfast as well and it has many varieties and delicious. From the room you can overlook the Clifford castle as well."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The interior has a charming old-world character, which added to its appeal, while still being clean, comfortable, and equipped with all the amenities we needed. The staff were absolutely fantastic and could not do enough to make our stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. As a small recommendation, it would be helpful to consider installing a grab rail in the shower, as my wife and I are both in our 80s and would have appreciated the additional support. Overall, a wonderful stay, and we would be very happy to return."

"We were lucky enough to obtain an upgrade to a suite - and I have to say my wife and I were very impressed with the room. A wonderful four poster bed, the room design was unusual but most appreciated - one of my favourites to have stayed in. The hotel in general gave a good impression with good design features. Do be aware that there is not a lift available for all floors - but we were promptly asked if we needed any assistance. All interactions with the staff were friendly and professional - and for a couple of requests staff were always willing to work out how to help us. Breakfast - from a menu with a good selection available and friendly service. Car parking is available but you are advised to call the hotel to book a space (we did and grateful we did as it was otherwise full). It is not cheap at GBP25 a night - but the nearby public car park is a similar price - that is York car park prices."
