Chongqing Metro Operating Hours

On the Chongqing Metro, most lines have their first train around 6:30 AM each day, and last-train times vary by line—usually between 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM. Be sure to check the official Chongqing Metro schedule before you head out.

Chongqing Metro Ticket Prices

The Chongqing Metro uses a distance-based fare system, with a starting fare of 2 RMB that increases with the distance you ride. Typically, 5 RMB or less will take you across several districts of Chongqing, making it a budget-friendly way to get around.

How to Navigate the Chongqing Metro?

Getting around Chongqing by metro is efficient and affordable. As an international traveler, you have several options to pay for your fare—most of which rely on your smartphone.

  • Mobile Payments (Recommended): The most convenient way to ride is by using a digital transit code. Open Alipay or WeChat Pay, search for the "Transport" or "Metro" mini-program, and follow the prompts to activate your Chongqing Metro QR code. You can link your international Visa or Mastercard to these apps before you travel. Simply scan your QR code at the station gate to enter and exit.
  • Ticket Vending Machines: Located at every station, these machines allow you to purchase single-journey tickets using cash (Chinese Yuan) or mobile payments (Alipay/WeChat).
  • National Transportation Card (T-Union): If you prefer a physical card, you can purchase a "China T-Union" (交通联合) card at station service counters. These cards are contactless and can be used on subways, buses, and ferries in Chongqing and over 300 other cities across China. Note: Keep your passport handy when visiting the service counter to purchase or top up your card.
  • Station Service Counters: If you need help with navigation or prefer not to use digital options, visit the station service counter. Staff can assist you with route planning and the purchase of single-journey tickets or stored-value transit cards.

Essential Chongqing Metro Lines: A Quick Guide

The Chongqing Metro is the best way to bypass the city's complex terrain and heavy traffic. Here are the key lines you’ll likely use to reach the city’s top attractions:

  • Line 1 (Red): The Downtown & History Route: Connects the city center at Chaotianmen and Jiefangbei to the historic Ciqikou Ancient Town and the academic hubs of Shapingba. Perfect for sightseeing and shopping.
  • Line 2 (Green): The Iconic "View" Route: Famous for its scenic journey. Don't miss Liziba Station, where the train passes directly through a residential building. This line is also ideal for reaching the Chongqing Zoo and the bustling Daping commercial area.
  • Line 3 (Blue): The Airport & Transit Mainstay: This is your primary connection to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (T2) and Chongqing North Railway Station. It also serves the massive Guanyinqiao shopping district.
  • Line 6 (Pink): The Cultural & Nature Connector: A great route for exploring beyond the city center, offering access to Southwest University and the modern Lijia Smart Park.
  • Line 9 (Maroon): The Modern City & Cruise Line: Links the Shapingba area with the fashionable Guanyinqiao and the Chongqing Cruise Home Port, making it a convenient choice for river cruise passengers.
  • Line 10 (Purple): The Airport & Park Express: A vital route if you are flying into Jiangbei International Airport (all terminals). It is also the most direct line to the expansive Central Park and the historic Chongqing People's Auditorium.
  • Key Connectors (Lines 4 & 5): Use these for specific transit needs, such as reaching Chongqing West Railway Station (Line 5) or exploring the outdoor scenery at Tieshanping Forest Park (Line 4).

The location is fantastic, making getting around super easy. Ziwei Road is right across the street, so grabbing a Heytea is incredibly convenient! In the evening, after a drink or two, it's just a two-minute walk back to the hotel. The room was clean, the bedding was soft and comfy against the skin, and the soundproofing was excellent – I slept soundly all night. The breakfast selection was quite diverse and totally exceeded my expectations; it felt like incredible value for money. Besides the usual Chinese and Western options, I highly recommend the freshly made noodles – they were delicious, and you can customize the spice level yourself. Overall, the experience was great. I'll definitely choose this place again next time I'm in Chongqing!

We had a wonderful stay at Hilton Chongqing. The breakfast spread was great to start the day. But the real highlight was China Moon, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant. We ended up having all our dinners there during the stay, the food was simply amazing. Every dish was flavorful, well-prepared and consistently impressive. It’s rare to find a hotel restaurant you want to return to night after night but China Moon made it easy.

A very comfortable experience. My friend and I came to Chongqing for a trip, and after washing our clothes at the hotel, they weren't drying well hanging in the wardrobe. When the hotel staff cleaned the room, they noticed this and brought a drying rack for me, hanging it by the window and even opening the window a bit for ventilation. They also left a small note explaining everything, a special thanks to Aunt Shi. Also, when we called reception for bottled water, fresh towels, slippers, etc., they were delivered very quickly; the service was excellent. The view from the room window was also great, and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful, always smiling and patiently answering our questions. Chongqing was a lot of fun, and we'll definitely come back if we get the chance (though it was too hot in the mornings).

This hotel was the best one we stayed at during our trip back to China. Angelina at the front desk was absolutely amazing! 👍👍 She was so attentive and patiently answered all our questions. She even upgraded our room when we asked. The hotel food was also super good, and the facilities were complete, clean, and beautiful. Overall, we were extremely satisfied. Even the staff outside the lobby were incredibly warm and funny. My husband, who was visiting Chongqing for the first time, absolutely loved this hotel. Plus, its location near Jiefangbei is fantastic. We'll definitely come back here on our next trip to China. Highly recommend! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Location: Situated inside Chongqing's landmark 'Grand Sail' building, directly above Raffles City and with direct metro access. Within walking distance to Chaotianmen, Hongyadong, Jiefangbei, and the pier. There are three hotels in the 'Sail' building: InterContinental Raffles City, Hotel Indigo, and Ascott. Ascott is wholly owned by CapitaLand, the developer of Raffles City, so its quality is undoubtedly top-notch. Facilities: Positioned as a serviced apartment, the public areas are compact yet comfortable and practical. The lobby offers complimentary tea and fresh flowers. A significant portion of the public space is dedicated to guests. The gym is well-equipped with at least two treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes, as well as a full set of resistance machines. There's also a yoga room with river views, comparable to a small commercial gym. It provides hot/cold water, sanitizing wipes, towels, and even headphones with sterilized covers. The swimming pool was closed during our two-day stay, so we hope to check it out next time. Below the hotel is Raffles City's urban garden, leading directly to a river-view platform – a peaceful oasis amidst the bustle. Room: We were fortunate to be upgraded to a two-bedroom suite, so spacious it was astounding. It features two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a bathtub in the master. It includes a washer and dryer, perfect for families. The kitchen is fully equipped with a built-in microwave, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, and range hood. A complete set of dishes and cookware is provided. The facilities are excellently maintained; the microwave and oven looked almost unused. The room offers a pillow menu and abundant storage space. Due to its unique location, Ascott's rooms offer either unbeatable river views, stunning city views, or like ours, views of both. Service: Special thanks to Miss Genny at the front desk, who was incredibly patient during our check-in, attentively asked about our needs, and efficiently arranged our room. We arrived early, intending only to store our luggage, but to our surprise, we received our room key immediately. We are very grateful. All hotel staff were exceptionally proactive, friendly, and helpful – carrying luggage, greeting us upon sight, making us feel right at home. The staff member on the ground floor was also wonderful, assisting with getting in and out of cars/moving luggage and patiently giving directions. Overall, a very satisfying stay.

The day before our arrival, Miya called us to ask about our room preferences. Our flight was late in the evening, leaving a long gap after checkout. Since Chongqing was extremely hot, we didn't want to check out early and drag our luggage around. We asked Miya from Jinming for a late checkout. She thoughtfully helped me plan the appropriate extension time, quickly processed the application, and successfully extended our checkout. This allowed us to comfortably rest in the room, making our departure much easier. Her communication was gentle, and she was very efficient, thoughtful, and attentive.

This hotel is located right across from Bayi Square and is also close to the subway. Stepping out, you're on Bayi Road Food Street, where you can find all sorts of local specialty snacks. The staff were very warm and attentive. When we arrived, they immediately offered us refreshing lemon and plum juice from the hotel's self-service, which was incredibly crisp and tasty. Housekeeping was prompt; they even helped us with laundry while we were out exploring. Food delivery riders can bring orders directly to your room. Honestly, if it's not too hot, a short walk will get you to a ton of great food options. You can easily walk to Jiefangbei and Hongyadong from here, and to get to Liziba, you can take Line 2. Across the street from the hotel, you get a great mountain view, and you can even spot the Golden Eagle. I highly recommend this place for anyone who loves food and exploring!

My absolute favorite, old-money style! On my first trip to Chongqing, I specifically chose this Sheraton. As soon as I got into the Ferrari in Chongqing, the driver proudly started talking about how luxurious the Chongqing Sheraton was, how rich the owner was, and how expensive the rooms were. Nearing the hotel, I could see two large golden towers from afar – the Sheraton literally blinds you in the midday sun [facepalm emoji]. The hotel's overall style is European, very grand, and the rooms are well-maintained. The view of the Chongqing river is absolutely stunning. The front desk service is definitely international five-star standard. The three women with glasses were all very enthusiastic. They arranged for our two rooms to be on the same floor and even recommended some must-visit attractions in Chongqing. I just remembered to give it a five-star review and a shout-out today while going through my travel photos from this trip.

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property.  Everyone was so nice and kind.  The service was top- notch.  The amenities were plenty and easy accessible.   A few extras that made everything worth it were the full- sized refrigerator, with freezer, the washing machine (for which they provided soap as well), dish washer, stove top, towel drier ( in the washroom) and full sized closet.  The view was so beautiful and calming as well.   Everything about this room was just so nice and exactly what I needed.     I didn’t realize how perfect the location was in relation to almost everything that I wanted to see.   When I figured that out, I just got up every day and walked to everything that I needed or wanted to see.   It was extremely close to a lot of restaurants, malls, local shops and smaller attractions.  I was less than a 10 -15 minute walk to Raffles City Shopping Center where there is a 5 story mall, Movie theatre, roof top attraction with the swing,  SKY WALK and also the river front park with amazing views.  Same distance for Hongyadong, the viewing platform, the Qiansemen Bridge- if you wanted to walk across the bridge at night- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  There is so much to see and experience between the hotel and these attractions.  Your days will be filled with fun and adventure.    If ever I have the opportunity to come back to the city, I will very excited to repeat this experience.

Having stayed at other Hyatts before, I was always impressed with their breakfast, so I specifically booked the Grand Hyatt for our Chongqing trip, and the breakfast certainly didn't disappoint. The hotel itself is well-maintained, though the rooms are a bit basic. What I really want to talk about is the service, which was just so-so. We came to Chongqing after visiting Chengdu, where we stayed at the Lamborghini Hotel. When we checked in there, the front desk attendant immediately noticed we were two adults and one child and had someone bring up kids' toothbrushes, slippers, and plenty of bottled water without us even asking. Honestly, it's not just the Lamborghini; when traveling with kids, many hotels proactively provide children's amenities without you having to request them. However, at the Hyatt, during check-in, the front desk didn't mention children's toothbrushes or slippers, nor did they bring up the room upgrade that was supposedly included according to our Ctrip booking. I forgot to ask about it at the time and only remembered afterward. There were only two bottles of water in the room, but I didn't ask for more since we had brought so much water from the Lamborghini in Chengdu that we couldn't even finish it all. It just felt a bit stingy to only offer two bottles, especially given how hot it is in Chongqing.

Stepping into the Grand Hyatt Chongqing again felt like time folding back into a familiar embrace. The warm glow of the lobby was like the gaze of an old friend, gently welcoming my travel-weary self. Ryan at the front desk smiled as warmly as ever, Tiffany's greeting was still as gentle, and Bella's eyes held that knowing spark – they are my compass in this city, a direction I can find without a map. Goldberg at the Club Lounge had already prepared a delightful surprise. Birthday balloons floated gently, like clouds in a dream. The guest room door slowly opened to warm yellow light, a neatly arranged birthday cake, and a handwritten card – every detail whispered: 'Welcome home.' I didn't need candles on a cake because the warmth and thoughtfulness from these people were light enough. Thank you for weaving an ordinary birthday into a shining chapter of memories with your professionalism and kindness. Grand Hyatt Chongqing isn't just a hotel; it's my second home in this city. And I've never really left.

The room was great, and the front desk staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. They even upgraded our room for free and extended our check-out to 4 PM because our flight was delayed. They also proactively came out from behind the front desk to help us with our luggage. On our first day, we left a note in the laundry room asking them to dry our clothes and hang them back in our room because we were rushing out to explore and worried we'd be back late. To our surprise, they actually did it! Super impressed! The hotel is very close to Guanyin Bridge, and the metro station is also conveniently located. The street food BBQ across the street tasted better than the folk bar we went to later that night. The location is excellent, not too far from Linjiangmen metro station, and within walking distance of many popular attractions including Hongyadong. The staff were polite, friendly, and provided great service. They used a translation device to explain important information which was very helpful. I was also pleasantly surprised with a complimentary room upgrade to a higher floor. The room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped with everything I needed. The air conditioning was individually controlled, so I could adjust the temperature to my liking. It worked perfectly and kept the room nice and cool which was especially appreciated during the hot summer. Breakfast is served as a la carte not a buffet. You can choose one main dish from the menu, all of which are different varieties of Chongqing noodles. Breakfast is served at the restaurant on the first floor next to the lobby which is also open to the public, and you don't have to eat it only in the morning, you can enjoy your meal anytime during the restaurant's opening hours. The hotel also has a rooftop on 15th floor where you can relax or enjoy the view. At checkout, the hotel staff gave me a souvenir snack which was a thoughtful touch. Overall, I had a wonderful stay and was very impressed. I would definitely choose to stay here again if I visit Chongqing in the future! The only downside is that there is only one elevator, so you may have to wait occasionally. However, the wait was never too long, so it wasn't a major issue. We came to Chongqing during the hottest weather, driven by curiosity and using my child's travel as the perfect excuse. I booked this hotel, which is considered the best for families wanting to visit Raffles City. Our room directly faced Raffles City, allowing us to see people commuting in the mornings and evenings. Outside the hotel, there's a small night market with various graffiti on the walls, making for great photo opportunities. The room facilities were perfectly adequate for us; the size was just right, and our stay was very comfortable. The hotel breakfast wasn't particularly good, but the location is great, making it a worthwhile stay! Just a heads-up, avoid that old hotpot restaurant – it's a scam targeting tourists! A middle-aged man, pretending to be shopping for groceries, will strike up a conversation, tell you about a nearby mall (he won't mention restaurants at first), building rapport. Then, when you ask for good local eateries, he'll enthusiastically recommend this place, claiming it's a local favorite and that you've 'asked the right person.' The hotpot restaurant's shrimp was frozen, and the meat was terrible quality! I struggled through the meal, thinking this was authentic local flavor. After I finished, I saw him pointing out the 'way' to another family, still with his bag of groceries! He saw me looking back and quickly walked away. I just checked out today, so I wanted to share my honest experience. First off, the hotel is right next to the Jiefangbei CBD in the city center. The sign is very prominent and easy to find. 👍 Second, I booked a room with a four-piece bedding set, and the staff at the front desk were incredibly warm and even gave me a disposable set, which made me feel very comfortable and safe during my stay. [Rose] Room: The overall style of the room has a slight light luxury retro vibe, very characteristic of Chongqing. The lighting in the room is a warm yellow, not at all harsh. The bedding was clean and tidy. 🚽 This hotel also has a wet/dry separation design, with the washroom, shower, and toilet all separate. 🌟 What's quite special about this hotel is that the guest room floors are carpeted. Personally, I found it very quiet and had a great night's sleep. The hotel's facilities are also quite comprehensive, with a laundry room that includes a dryer and an ironing machine, and a 24-hour gym.
