Chongqing Metro Operating Hours

On the Chongqing Metro, most lines have their first train around 6:30 AM each day, and last-train times vary by line—usually between 10:30 PM and 11:30 PM. Be sure to check the official Chongqing Metro schedule before you head out.

Chongqing Metro Ticket Prices

The Chongqing Metro uses a distance-based fare system, with a starting fare of 2 RMB that increases with the distance you ride. Typically, 5 RMB or less will take you across several districts of Chongqing, making it a budget-friendly way to get around.

How to Navigate the Chongqing Metro?

Getting around Chongqing by metro is efficient and affordable. As an international traveler, you have several options to pay for your fare—most of which rely on your smartphone.

  • Mobile Payments (Recommended): The most convenient way to ride is by using a digital transit code. Open Alipay or WeChat Pay, search for the "Transport" or "Metro" mini-program, and follow the prompts to activate your Chongqing Metro QR code. You can link your international Visa or Mastercard to these apps before you travel. Simply scan your QR code at the station gate to enter and exit.
  • Ticket Vending Machines: Located at every station, these machines allow you to purchase single-journey tickets using cash (Chinese Yuan) or mobile payments (Alipay/WeChat).
  • National Transportation Card (T-Union): If you prefer a physical card, you can purchase a "China T-Union" (交通联合) card at station service counters. These cards are contactless and can be used on subways, buses, and ferries in Chongqing and over 300 other cities across China. Note: Keep your passport handy when visiting the service counter to purchase or top up your card.
  • Station Service Counters: If you need help with navigation or prefer not to use digital options, visit the station service counter. Staff can assist you with route planning and the purchase of single-journey tickets or stored-value transit cards.

Essential Chongqing Metro Lines: A Quick Guide

The Chongqing Metro is the best way to bypass the city's complex terrain and heavy traffic. Here are the key lines you’ll likely use to reach the city’s top attractions:

  • Line 1 (Red): The Downtown & History Route: Connects the city center at Chaotianmen and Jiefangbei to the historic Ciqikou Ancient Town and the academic hubs of Shapingba. Perfect for sightseeing and shopping.
  • Line 2 (Green): The Iconic "View" Route: Famous for its scenic journey. Don't miss Liziba Station, where the train passes directly through a residential building. This line is also ideal for reaching the Chongqing Zoo and the bustling Daping commercial area.
  • Line 3 (Blue): The Airport & Transit Mainstay: This is your primary connection to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport (T2) and Chongqing North Railway Station. It also serves the massive Guanyinqiao shopping district.
  • Line 6 (Pink): The Cultural & Nature Connector: A great route for exploring beyond the city center, offering access to Southwest University and the modern Lijia Smart Park.
  • Line 9 (Maroon): The Modern City & Cruise Line: Links the Shapingba area with the fashionable Guanyinqiao and the Chongqing Cruise Home Port, making it a convenient choice for river cruise passengers.
  • Line 10 (Purple): The Airport & Park Express: A vital route if you are flying into Jiangbei International Airport (all terminals). It is also the most direct line to the expansive Central Park and the historic Chongqing People's Auditorium.
  • Key Connectors (Lines 4 & 5): Use these for specific transit needs, such as reaching Chongqing West Railway Station (Line 5) or exploring the outdoor scenery at Tieshanping Forest Park (Line 4).

The Ramada Encore by Wyndham Chongqing Guanyinqiao boasts an excellent location, just a few minutes' walk from the business district and subway. The rooms are clean and tidy, with great natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows and soft bedding. It was a fantastic experience for my business trip. The front desk staff were warm and efficient with check-in. There are tons of delicious local snacks and food options nearby. The facilities are comprehensive, including a gym and laundry room, and the staff are attentive and thoughtful. It offers incredible value for money, and I'll definitely choose Ramada for my next business trip.

We had a wonderful stay at Hilton Chongqing. The breakfast spread was great to start the day. But the real highlight was China Moon, the hotel’s Chinese restaurant. We ended up having all our dinners there during the stay, the food was simply amazing. Every dish was flavorful, well-prepared and consistently impressive. It’s rare to find a hotel restaurant you want to return to night after night but China Moon made it easy.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Mr. Ryan for his outstanding hospitality. He was warm, professional, and very 稳重—calm, composed, and dependable—which immediately made us feel welcomed and well taken care of. He thoughtfully arranged for our room to be next to our children's room and even upgraded our room to make it possible. We truly appreciated his kindness and attention to detail. What touched me even more was that after I casually mentioned it was my birthday on the day we arrived, he thoughtfully arranged a birthday cake for me. It was such a heartfelt surprise and made my birthday even more special. It was a small gesture that reflected the genuine care and exceptional service he provides. We were so comfortable during our stay that we preferred spending more time at the hotel rather than going out. Because we enjoyed our stay so much, we decided to add the breakfast package, and Mr. Ryan kindly offered us the package rate for two, which came as a wonderful surprise. This hotel has a standard of service that truly stands out. The warmth, professionalism, and genuine care shown by the staff made our family trip even more memorable. We will definitely stay here again whenever we visit Chongqing. Thank you, Mr. Ryan, for making our stay such a wonderful and unforgettable experience.

After watching 'Sweet Talk,' I decided to stay on the Executive Floor. Of course, TV shows are just TV shows; I didn't encounter an Executive Lounge manager like Xu Miyu at the JW Marriott Chongqing. However, choosing the Executive Floor was definitely the right decision. It was very convenient to enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening offerings at the 28th-floor Executive Lounge. Gloria from the Executive Lounge was also very welcoming and even checked in on my satisfaction after I had checked out. The coffee capsules and tea bags in the room were also generously stocked. The hotel's location is very convenient, with plenty of dining options nearby.

Location: Situated inside Chongqing's landmark 'Grand Sail' building, directly above Raffles City and with direct metro access. Within walking distance to Chaotianmen, Hongyadong, Jiefangbei, and the pier. There are three hotels in the 'Sail' building: InterContinental Raffles City, Hotel Indigo, and Ascott. Ascott is wholly owned by CapitaLand, the developer of Raffles City, so its quality is undoubtedly top-notch. Facilities: Positioned as a serviced apartment, the public areas are compact yet comfortable and practical. The lobby offers complimentary tea and fresh flowers. A significant portion of the public space is dedicated to guests. The gym is well-equipped with at least two treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes, as well as a full set of resistance machines. There's also a yoga room with river views, comparable to a small commercial gym. It provides hot/cold water, sanitizing wipes, towels, and even headphones with sterilized covers. The swimming pool was closed during our two-day stay, so we hope to check it out next time. Below the hotel is Raffles City's urban garden, leading directly to a river-view platform – a peaceful oasis amidst the bustle. Room: We were fortunate to be upgraded to a two-bedroom suite, so spacious it was astounding. It features two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a bathtub in the master. It includes a washer and dryer, perfect for families. The kitchen is fully equipped with a built-in microwave, oven, refrigerator, dishwasher, and range hood. A complete set of dishes and cookware is provided. The facilities are excellently maintained; the microwave and oven looked almost unused. The room offers a pillow menu and abundant storage space. Due to its unique location, Ascott's rooms offer either unbeatable river views, stunning city views, or like ours, views of both. Service: Special thanks to Miss Genny at the front desk, who was incredibly patient during our check-in, attentively asked about our needs, and efficiently arranged our room. We arrived early, intending only to store our luggage, but to our surprise, we received our room key immediately. We are very grateful. All hotel staff were exceptionally proactive, friendly, and helpful – carrying luggage, greeting us upon sight, making us feel right at home. The staff member on the ground floor was also wonderful, assisting with getting in and out of cars/moving luggage and patiently giving directions. Overall, a very satisfying stay.

I've been to Chongqing many times, but this was my first stay at a Kempinski. I'd seen on Trip.com that the hotel opened in 2012, so I assumed the facilities and decor might be a bit outdated. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that despite being open for 14 years, this Kempinski is still exceptionally well-maintained. The original construction materials and furnishings were clearly high-quality, luxury items, so overall, aside from the slightly older design and decor style, everything else was unexpectedly good. This includes the dining options – whether it was Elements Western Restaurant, the Beer Bar, or the Executive Lounge, the food quality was impressive. The desserts and bread, in particular, truly showcased the essence of German culinary excellence. Of course, as a boutique hotel under the GHA DISCOVERY alliance, what truly impressed me most was the service. From the welcoming attitude of the staff to the efficiency of the management team in resolving issues, it truly lives up to Kempinski's reputation as a European hotel aristocrat. Special thanks to the hotel management and operations teams for their meticulous care and excellent service during my stay. Employees like Wilson, the Director of Rooms, Paul, the Guest Services Manager, and Lucy, the Executive Lounge intern, all deserve special recognition!

Shout out to bellhops Xu Wei and Zhu Tao. Xu Wei showed me various rooms multiple times and even walked me back to my room at night. Both he and Zhu Tao patiently recommended tourist attractions and looked up information for me. Many thanks [rose][rose]! 3. Compliments to Cai Li at the Executive Lounge. I thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property.  Everyone was so nice and kind.  The service was top- notch.  The amenities were plenty and easy accessible.   A few extras that made everything worth it were the full- sized refrigerator, with freezer, the washing machine (for which they provided soap as well), dish washer, stove top, towel drier ( in the washroom) and full sized closet.  The view was so beautiful and calming as well.   Everything about this room was just so nice and exactly what I needed.     I didn’t realize how perfect the location was in relation to almost everything that I wanted to see.   When I figured that out, I just got up every day and walked to everything that I needed or wanted to see.   It was extremely close to a lot of restaurants, malls, local shops and smaller attractions.  I was less than a 10 -15 minute walk to Raffles City Shopping Center where there is a 5 story mall, Movie theatre, roof top attraction with the swing,  SKY WALK and also the river front park with amazing views.  Same distance for Hongyadong, the viewing platform, the Qiansemen Bridge- if you wanted to walk across the bridge at night- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!  There is so much to see and experience between the hotel and these attractions.  Your days will be filled with fun and adventure.    If ever I have the opportunity to come back to the city, I will very excited to repeat this experience.

Staying at Cliff Hotel was the most delightful surprise of my trip to Chongqing! Perched on a hillside, its minimalist white design and geometric lines, especially at night against the illuminated river, make it look like a 'spaceship' docked atop Yuzhong, giving off a super futuristic vibe. Every photo taken here turns out stunning. The room experience was absolutely fantastic! The massive 270-degree floor-to-ceiling windows offer panoramic views of the majestic Yangtze River and the dazzling city lights. You can lie in bed and soak in the breathtaking nightscape – it's incredibly therapeutic. The infinity pool on the rooftop was the absolute highlight. The water seamlessly blends with the skyline, and swimming while overlooking the river feels like being in the clouds. It's definitely a must-visit spot for a vacation photoshoot. Furthermore, the hotel's service was impeccable. The butler was warm and attentive, even offering complimentary fruit. Located in Qixinggang, it's a tranquil oasis yet conveniently close to major attractions like Jiefangbei and Hongyadong, making getting around super easy. Whether for a romantic getaway or a family trip, this hidden gem of a hotel is not to be missed. Highly recommended!

Excellent hotel in the heart of Jiefangbei. Perfect location, walking distance from Hongyadong and the Liberation Monument. The room is spacious and well maintained, breakfast is generous and well put together. But what truly made the stay enjoyable was the staff. Shazz from the breakfast and restaurant team deserves a special mention , attentive, always available, with that kind of genuine care you can't fake. Every morning she made you feel like a regular, not just another guest passing through. Kidi at reception was equally outstanding. professional, efficient, and with a warmth that goes well beyond just doing the job. Her English is excellent and she has a natural ability to make solo travelers feel at ease in an unfamiliar city. In a hotel of this category, service can often feel anonymous and standardized. Here it's different, you can tell the people actually care. That makes all the difference. Highly recommended without hesitation.

The facilities are a bit old, but generally well-maintained. I stayed on the 26th floor and the room had a damp smell, which wasn't great. The windows felt like they weren't there at all; they provided no soundproofing. The showerhead was leaking and needs to be replaced. The elevators in the public areas felt like they had no AC, were very hot at noon, and were slow. Hygienics: Meets Hyatt standards. Environment: Meets Hyatt standards. Service: So-so. After 10 PM, there was no answer when calling room service. Location: Good, quiet yet central. There are many shopping areas nearby, making it very convenient for dining and shopping. Other: The executive lounge's food was average with no live cooking stations. The pool has a hot tub and dry sauna, but the water quality was mediocre. Overall, everything is quite old.

Traveling to Chongqing with my child, I compared several hotels before buying a group deal for this one online. It's truly well-suited for families. The twin room offers plenty of space for kids to run around comfortably. The entire room is very clean, and the bedding is soft and skin-friendly. Its central location in Jiefangbei means we can walk to Hongyadong and Raffles City, saving us from long treks with the little one. There are numerous convenience stores and snack shops nearby, making it easy to find kid-friendly breakfast options that are more varied than the hotel's breakfast. The staff are gentle and patient, and they offer free stroller storage. Check-in and check-out were quick and efficient.
