Having used QR codes before but finding the experience unsatisfactory, I opted for physical tickets this time. However, the redemption process took some time. Since my passport lacked a chip, I couldn't redeem a physical ticket at the self-service machine and had to go to the manned counter. Although there are counters specifically for travelers at Kyoto Station, they only operate until 8 PM, and I arrived after 8 PM, so I had to use the regular counter. There were over 30 people waiting, and it took more than half an hour to complete the redemption. Next time, I will definitely use QR codes.

Buy JR Haruka Tickets at Kansai Airport
After arriving at Kansai International Airport, follow the signs for the railway station. At Kansai-Airport Station, JR-West provides ticket machines and a JR ticket office where travelers can purchase train tickets.
JR-West's Green Ticket Vending Machines can be used to purchase Shinkansen and Limited Express tickets, including HARUKA. The machines also provide an alternative to waiting at a ticket office.

It's located in Namba which is one of the busiest and exciting neighborhoods in Osaka. Direct train to KIX in the same building is the biggest plus. Dotonbori is only 10 min walk away. We had an amazing sushi dinner a few mins from the hotel. You never get hungry staying there. Front desk staff speak very good English. If you opt out of breakfast, the cafe on 3rd floor facing express train station is an excellent choice for coffee and pastries. A few min walk there an excellent brunch cafe that opens at 8 am. If you arrive by train from Kyoto/Nara, it's a little past to n navigate to the hotel. Just get to the 3rd floor first around Takashimaya. Signage is mucus easier from there.

The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic. Daimaru department store and Shinsaibashi shopping street are just across the road, making it incredibly convenient for dining and shopping. There are tons of delicious food options nearby. The teppanyaki restaurant on the third floor of the hotel is good. While the buffet breakfast on the second floor doesn't have a huge variety, the quality is excellent. Guests can ask the front desk for breakfast coupons, which cost 3600 JPY per person. All the restaurants on the B2 level are also delicious, and the service is great. My room had a good view, facing Daimaru directly. There were always Chinese-speaking staff at the front desk, and you can buy airport bus tickets in the lobby.
The room itself was a bit dated, possibly because I booked a lower-grade room, but it was functional. The shower in the bathroom had excellent water pressure, which was very refreshing – a crucial detail when traveling. The downsides were that the toilet flush button was too small and required a lot of force to press. Also, either the duvet insert or the mattress in the room had a slight, but not overwhelming, odor, perhaps due to age. For the first two days of my stay, I felt itchy while sleeping, and woke up one morning with a very itchy bite on my ankle. The fabric chairs and sofa also looked a bit dirty. Staying at Hotel Granvia Osaka was such a pleasant experience! The location is unbeatable — right in the heart of Osaka, with shopping, restaurants and eateries all around, making it incredibly convenient to explore the city.
What I loved most is how central it is for travelling beyond Osaka too. With Osaka Station right there, it’s so easy to head out to places like Kyoto, Kobe and Kurashiki without wasting time getting across the city.
A special shout-out to Don at the hotel, whose service was truly top-notch. He spoke excellent English, was incredibly accommodating and made me feel very well taken care of. The hotel even upgraded my room for free, which was such a lovely surprise!
And for Pokémon fans — this is a bonus I absolutely loved! 😍 The Pokémon Center is just on the 13th floor, so you can literally pop down whenever you feel like browsing or shopping.

Location: If you're coming from Kansai Airport, taking the Nankai Rapid Express to Namba and then dragging your luggage to the hotel is a bit of a trek, about 1km I'd say? I heard taking the bus is better. But the hotel's location is absolutely fantastic. Just 100 meters outside, you're in the busiest area of Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi. Every day after exploring, you can just step downstairs and enjoy all sorts of delicious food.
Room: The room isn't huge, but I could half-open my 28-inch suitcase. Although it's a bit older, it's very clean! The only issue is that the curtains don't block out the light completely, so I was woken up by the sunlight in the morning. I should have worn an eye mask.
Breakfast: It's alright, enough to fill you up. If you're rushing out to explore every day, it's worth booking. The restaurant isn't very big and can get crowded sometimes. A big plus is that children under 12 eat for free!
Service: My room was right opposite the linen room, but I stayed for 3 nights and didn't hear a single sound from the staff, which was impressive! I couldn't use WeChat Pay for the washing machine, so I called the front desk to complain. To my surprise, a staff member proactively came to my room to help me operate it. When it still didn't work, they went back and forth to help me resolve the issue.
Surroundings: Many reviews mentioned the red-light district at night. I also brought my 12-year-old daughter, and we came back very late every night, but we found it to be fine. This area is very lively; there are still many people out and about at midnight. You can find places like a century-old oden stand and the popular white chicken broth ramen, as well as convenience stores and Don Quijote. I'm very satisfied!

Location was amazing for shopping, whenever we had too much to carry we would head back to drop everything off and take a quick rest. The room had ample space for our 4 huge luggages and 3 cabin luggages. The room might be slightly dark but there is sunlight in the morning. However for the room we stayed in, we struggled to find areas to hang our clothes while showering as there was no hooks to hang them in the shower area. Service: Excellent! The front desk staff were enthusiastic and always greeted us when we came and went. When the Wi-Fi wouldn't connect, they personally came to our room to help us set it up.

The rooms are a bit larger than hotels in the city center. It's super close to Sakurajima Station on the JR line, just across the street, which is very convenient. Pros:
1. Exceptionally clean.
2. The room has an transom window that can be opened for ventilation (it's rare for high-end city hotels to offer openable windows; I hope they retain this feature when they renovate). Fresh air is definitely better than a ventilation system, as ventilation ducts can also accumulate pollutants.
3. High-quality ingredients used for breakfast.
4. Room service food is delicious; I ordered it multiple times (mainly because there aren't many dining options nearby).
5. Plenty of convenience stores in the vicinity.
6. Excellent water pressure in the bathroom, very refreshing.
7. The toilet light brightness is adjustable, allowing you to see clearly at night without being fully woken up.
8. Great location. It's actually quite close to Umeda. A taxi to Shinsaibashi cost 125 yen, and back from Umeda was between 70-80 yen. A taxi to Universal Studios Japan (USJ) was 365 yen. The airport is less than an hour away.
9. All staff members greet you with a bow, giving a very 'old money' imperial vibe.
10. The rooms are spacious. I recommend booking a 40 square meter room for a very comfortable stay.
Cons:
1. The adjacent shopping mall is struggling, and all the restaurants inside have closed down, leaving very few dining options nearby. Only McDonald's is open; otherwise, you have to walk at least 700-800 meters to find a decent restaurant. Also, the hotel doesn't offer a buffet dinner for lunch or dinner, which meant I had to rely on room service.
2. The hotel provides very few toiletries; there wasn't even body lotion. Who doesn't moisturize after a shower? Hotels like Okura at least provide a small sample pack with a tiny packet of makeup remover, face wash, toner, and lotion – that can't cost much.
3. The room service menu could be more diverse.
4. The buffet breakfast variety is exactly the same every day. After eating it for five days, it was hard to keep going. Couldn't they introduce a little variety?FromINR 14,078

I love to stay in this Hotel. The room is bigger than i expected, you can open two suitcases at the same time.There is hot spring . Ths space is not too big , but luckily ,i am the only one to use it in the early morning.there are free ramen and ice cream for supper. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve stayed here. This might just be my favorite hotel in the world.
It’s true, it might not be everyone’s cup of tea. But once you pass through the entrance tunnel, you’re transported to another world, even though you’re still in Osaka.
This time, I was on a blue floor. Despite the heat outside, it felt like the temperature dropped by 5°C. The elevator was neon pink. I was greeted with a warm “Welcome back.” And I replied, “I’m home.”
I was on the top floor, the 27th, on the Midosuji side, my favorite pink floor. Odd-numbered floors are pink, even-numbered are blue.
Soon after, Jack brought my luggage. As always, he pulled my stopper from his breast pocket. Thank you.
“Midosuji is all mine!” I declared, and then it was bath time.
I headed to WET on the 4th floor. I read a book by the poolside, then soaked in the jacuzzi, repeating the cycle. Later, I had a French 75 at LIVING ROOM, served by Mr. Yajima.
The Mexican dish I often order had been slightly revamped and was even more delicious.
Back in my room, it was bath time again. Oh? Extra towels, bath salts, skincare, and a chair! Ah, I remember mentioning it last time. The chair wasn't quite what I had in mind, though.
After that, I fell into a deep sleep, so no turndown service this time. Oh! Their laundry service is excellent here. I always have my high-end brand T-shirts cleaned here. It costs almost 10,000 yen locally, which is a bit much. They even managed to remove a stain from a skirt that H Nagoya couldn't get out.

Can You Bring Luggage on JR Haruka?
Yes. HARUKA is an airport-oriented service, so carrying luggage is normal. The trains have storage areas for larger bags while smaller luggage can be kept with you or placed in the appropriate overhead space. If you have large suitcases, avoid blocking the aisles, doors, and other passengers' spaces. For safety never keep your valuables and important documents unattended.
Note: If you’re traveling with unusually large or bulky luggage, check the current JR-West rules before departure. HARUKA is often a practical option since you don’t have to transfer between several trains on the way to Kyoto or Shin-Osaka. Most passengers travel with standard luggage.
JR Haruka vs. Kansai Airport Rapid
HARUKA is not the only JR train between Kansai Airport and Osaka. The Kansai Airport Rapid can also be useful, particularly if your destination is in Osaka.
The main difference is that HARUKA is a Limited Express service, while Kansai Airport Rapid is a regular Rapid Service. HARUKA is particularly convenient for travelers heading directly to Shin-Osaka or Kyoto because it provides a direct service to those stations.

Is JR Haruka Worth It?
For many travelers, yes, especially when Kyoto or Shin-Osaka is your destination.
HARUKA's biggest advantage is simplicity. Instead of arriving at KIX and immediately figuring out multiple connections, you can board one train and remain on it until your destination. This is convenient when you have large luggage or are traveling with family.
However, if your hotel is far from a HARUKA station, and a different airport transfer takes you closer to your accommodation, using the alternative may be more practical.
Note: Before booking, check your hotel's nearest station and compare HARUKA with the Kansai Airport Rapid, airport limousine buses, and other available transport options.
