The hotel and staff amazing
Trip however was a terrible service as they cancelled my stay with no refund
Disgusting service and will never be using them ever again

Mixed stay - great service recovery but noisy room
We initially booked a standard room, but when we walked in there was a strong smell of cigarettes. We called reception and the team sorted it out quickly, moving us to a much nicer room - really appreciated how fast they dealt with it.
Unfortunately the new room was right next to the hallway doors, and every time someone walked in or out the door banged loudly. It kept waking us up through the night, which took the shine off an otherwise good stay.
Staff were responsive and helpful when there was an issue, but it would be great if they could look at the door mechanisms on that hallway - a bit of extra care there would make a big difference for light sleepers.

An amazing hotel with clean and peaceful rooms 👌🏻

The staff were wonderful. I had my birthday dinner there, and the chef together with a lovely waitress surprised me with a complimentary dessert. It was such a kind and thoughtful gesture ☺️🩷

I was able to truly relax and had a great night’s sleep 🥰

The hotel is quite big and the location is very good, but the room we set may be cheaper, so it is arranged on the first floor, and the window is directly outside the road, so the curtains cannot be opened. And Edinburgh is exhausted from Chongqing, the front desk is actually on the 4th floor, there is no elevator to the first floor, the luggage has to be moved down, so it is not convenient. In addition, the soundproofing of the hotel is not good, and the sound of the bath water next door is very loud. There is also the door is big red, with the light strips by the door and the corridor at the door, which is very scary. . . There are character paintings hanging in the room, which is not very auspicious. . .

My stay at the Malmaison York far exceeded my expectations; I was thoroughly impressed. In a country where hotel rooms are often on the smaller side, this hotel truly stood out with its spacious and airy rooms, which felt anything but cramped. The facilities were meticulously maintained and thoughtfully equipped, ensuring a very comfortable stay.

The hotel staff were incredibly warm, friendly, and efficient during check-in, and they patiently addressed all my requests throughout my stay, providing a truly pleasant service experience.

The location is a major highlight. It’s just a short walk to key Old Town attractions like the Shambles and York Minster, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. Staying here allowed me to immerse myself in the vibrant atmosphere of York's Old Town, significantly enhancing my entire Yorkshire trip. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting York.

In the evenings, a short stroll led me to enjoy some wine and Italian food – I couldn't have been happier with my choice in York!
