Cheap Hotels in Hamburg

"The hotel is centrally located with good public transport links. The ambiance is modern and the cleanliness is good. Unfortunately, the professionalism of the staff leaves a little to be desired; they don't seem to be trained hospitality professionals. At breakfast, used dishes weren't cleared away, and a dirty, crumpled cloth was left out in the open. At the front desk, there was a lack of attentive gestures, for instance, at check-out, no one asked if everything was satisfactory or wished us a pleasant journey home. The fact that an earlier check-in, for example at 1:30 PM instead of 3 PM, costs an additional €30 is quite off-putting. In the room, we disliked that the open shower was too short, making it impossible to shower normally without flooding the floor. Also, the toilet flush button was stuck, and there was limescale on the sink faucet. A positive highlight is the affordable overnight price, especially with children in the same room. If you are willing to overlook the aforementioned drawbacks, the hotel is recommendable."

"Well.. Do you really feel comfortable? Yes, the building (a&o Hamburg Reeperbahn, formerly Hotel Stern, address Reeperbahn 152/154) actually has a connection to the Nazi era - it was not a direct concentration camp or large concentration camp, but it was used as a forced labour camp in 1940. The exact connection (based on historical sources): • The house was built in 1891 as a Logierhaus Concordia - a cheap lodging house for poor men (e.g. Sailors, travellers without a permanent residence). It had 235 small single rooms, shared toilets and was typical for the rough harbour and red light district of St. Pauli. • In the Nazi era (especially from the 1930s), the house was often used by the porters (caretakers) to denounce (advertise) guests. Many men (e.g. B. homosexuals, ***********, ”asocials”) were arrested there and imprisoned - this was unfortunately common in Hamburg's ”Kiez”. • From August 1940: There was a forced labour camp of Deutsche Werft AG (a large Hamburg shipyard). The company used the existing building as accommodation for forced labourers - prisoners of war (POWs), civilians deported from occupied countries and from 1944 also prisoners from concentration camps (concentration camp subcamps). The shipyard had several such camps (mainly in Finkenwerder and harbour area), and this one in the Reeperbahn was one of them. Exact numbers (how many people, conditions) are not well documented, but it was part of the huge system of forced labour in Hamburg (a total of 400,000–500,000 people affected). • A Stolperstein biography mentions e.g. B. that a French woman had to perform forced labour in 1944 as a kitchen assistant in the Reeperbahn 154 Foreign Home (during pregnancy) before she came to another camp. After the war it became a normal tourist home again, converted into an Eros Centre (a large *******) in 1964, later refugee accommodation (in the 80s very dilapidated), then from 1999 Hotel Stern and 2009 a&o. Well. We had a real good sleep anyway. The Bath Room is so warm and the elevator was real… you will see…. Danke ;)"

"It takes about 30 minutes from the central station by s-Bahn. I think it is perfect for those who want to stay at a cheap price. It was old, but it was a level that I didn't care about if I stayed for a short time. But the walls are thin, and you can hear the voices calling in the nearby room, or the sound of the gap wind. The dryer was lent at 10€. (10€ will come back when returning the dryer.)"

"After a slight initial confusion during check-in – I'd never booked through a system like this before – I was genuinely thrilled with the quality of the rooms! Super comfortable beds, a fantastic accessible bathroom, and modern room design. We were extremely satisfied and will definitely become regular guests at Sleep Hotels and recommend them to others!"

"Spacious and clean room. With water offer at reception. But the bed and pillow were too soft made my sleep not good, and the wall was thin as I could hear and feel the shake from neighbors. Location is convenient, and quiet zone from Central Station. But one point to note, though there is a metro entrance next to hotel, but the entrance without escalator or elevator, but stairs! It could be hard if you carried heavy luggage."

"**Facilities:** The hotel is a bit old, and amenities like the bathrooms and elevators are quite dated and showing their age. **Location:** On the plus side, the surrounding area is really good, offering great convenience for shopping and dining. **Service:** The breakfast spread was extensive, and the front desk staff were also very friendly and helpful."

"Hotel is about an 8 min walk to the train station. There is construction nearby which meant we had to walk a short path in the dirt through a park area but not a big issue. Hotel was clean and beds were comfy. No toiletries or amenities though. Not much to eat around here though (nearest restaurant is near the train station). Easy and simple check in/check out procedure."

"The hotel felt very secure. The lobby doors close at 11 PM, and you need your room key to get in. It's quite close to the U1 subway line, and the U3/U1 lines share the same station, though the exits are a bit far apart. The hotel service was excellent, the bedding was very comfortable, and the room had plenty of space. There were also utensils and a stove for cooking. The air conditioning wasn't very cold in the summer, which I've also experienced in other parts of Germany; it felt more like a fan."

"Super convenient, whether you're heading to the airport or the city center, it's just a three-minute walk to the S-Bahn. Amazingly, there are three decent-sized supermarkets within 100 meters. For food, Arabian BBQ is the main option (and it's delicious), but there's also an Asian buffet nearby that's around €20 for lunch and €30 for dinner. If you're into fitness, TRU Fitness is close by, and a day pass is only €10, which is a great deal. The hotel doesn't have a water dispenser, and you only get one large complimentary bottle of water, but the front desk said the tap water is drinkable. Conclusion: I'd definitely stay here again next time I'm in Hamburg."

"We stayed at your hotel for 18 nights in total as we were visiting our son and his family for the Christmas holidays. He lives nearby so this hotel was VERY convenient. The housekeeping was exceptional and we thoroughly enjoyed the hot water and pulsating shower in the bathroom. We were disappointed that there was not a coffee maker/kettle in the room. We were also rather disappointed that the full breakfast buffet on a couple of occasions did not have the hot items readily available. We were able to order individual servings of such items but it was not the same as being able to freely pick and choose what we wanted. We also noticed that the hot drinks that were dispensed from the machine were NOT hot at all and just merely warm. The front desk staff were friendly and courteous at all times. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit our son in Hamburg."
