Cheap Hotels in Ulaanbaatar

"I chose this hotel because of its proximity to Sukhbaatar Square. I thought if it was close to the square, I could take a bus from the airport to the square and walk from there. In reality, I ended up taking a taxi, but it was indeed very close to the square. Given how affordable it was, I didn't have high expectations for the interior, but it exceeded them! It's a cozy hotel, and the front desk staff were pleasant. I felt more relaxed and comfortable here than in a larger hotel. The room was extremely clean, and for a twin room, there was enough space to open our suitcases. The amenities, featuring the hotel's red trademark, were plentiful and stylish. The elevator lobby, dining hall, and stairs all looked like they were designed by a tasteful designer, rather than just being overly opulent. Breakfast was included, and again, I didn't expect much, but it was surprisingly comprehensive. I stayed for two nights, both at the beginning and end of my trip. On both days, there was a good variety of breads, even some sweet options, and a rice cooker with mixed rice, accompanied by nori (seaweed) – it was quite a pleasant surprise. I wonder if there are many Japanese guests? By the second stay, I was really looking forward to breakfast. Next to the hotel is the restaurant Nomad, and there's also a cafe/bar. At least two convenience stores are nearby. Also, the famous Bull Top shabu-shabu restaurant is in a building just a 5-minute walk away. If I ever go to Ulaanbaatar again, I'd definitely want to stay at this hotel."

"The hotel is close to many restaurants and a shopping mall called Max Mall. I have some good and not so good things to share about the hotel before anyone decides to stay here. The best person to speak to at the hotel is definitely a lady called Narandulam. She is the general manager, has excellent English, and is very knowledgeable. She was incredibly helpful and able to assist with everything. The hotel also allowed me to leave my suitcases there free of charge, so thank you to everyone for that! Ulaanbaatar has a massive traffic problem due to a lack of efficient public transportation. So, although the hotel is in a good location, actually getting there can be a nightmare. After one of my day trips, I was stuck in traffic for 3 hours! 😩 I also had issues with the showers in two different rooms. The water doesn’t drain properly and ended up flooding into the room. This is definitely something the hotel needs to fix. Another small issue was that the receptionist (I’m not sure of her name) didn’t speak enough English to help with basic questions, such as “Where is the closest ATM?” For anyone wondering, there is an ATM across the road, and another one inside Max Mall."

"Though everything is great, I was unable to rest at all due to outdoor noise. The windows are not double glazed nor are there ear buds! The city never sleeps and its noisy which is wonderful and that's what I wanted to experience but could not rest. TV would not connect which could have helped cancel the traffic noise. Otherwise, great comfort and service."

"The location of this hotel is ideal when having a city break In Ulaanbaatar. It’s pretty much at the side of Sukhbaatar Square. The staff were attentive and they quickly sorted out a small problem in the hotel that on the 6th floor was loud music from an event. After bringing up this issue the manager came and sorted out the problem. Overall the location was the main thing and the hotel room was big enough for a solo traveller."

"During my 6-day self-guided tour in Ulaanbaatar, we encountered several difficulties due to the scarcity of roofed taxis, the inconvenience of ride-hailing apps, and language barriers. The manager provided timely, thoughtful, and detailed assistance, which allowed us to successfully complete our travel plans in Ulaanbaatar. A special thanks goes to the manager who personally accompanied us after my companion's phone was accidentally lost while shopping. With the manager's and front desk staff's diligent communication, the phone was successfully retrieved. Thank you again! The manager is Chinese, so communication was seamless, and he was very helpful! I highly recommend this hotel to friends."

"Very well located, 30 minutes walk from Sukhbaatar square, 20 minutes (17) walk from train station. Staff are friendly and helpful. We left our cases for 1 night at the hotel while we stayed in ger. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable."

"Having a large public bath and sauna was definitely one of the highlights of my stay. However, there was one strange issue: body soap and conditioner were available at the entrance to the bath, but for some reason there was no shampoo. I ended up washing my hair with body soap. The sauna temperature was also a little on the low side, so I needed to use the löyly to really warm up. The room itself was spacious, but there were no amenities such as body lotion in the room, so I had to go to the public bath area to get them. The towels provided were clean and of good quality. The gym facilities were excellent and I had no complaints at all. They even have a bench press. Breakfast was fairly standard, but I really appreciated the wide selection of meat dishes. Hotels in many other countries tend to offer very little meat at breakfast, so this was a big plus for me."

"Central location, 15 mins walk can reach the main square and Shangri-la shopping mall. Price good. 2 restaurants inside hotel. Room spotless clean, spacious, well equipped. But pre-ordering of taxi to airport is not available and staff can only call on the spot when transport service needed (uber like apps in Mongolia is not user friendly). Please note that the ride between airport and city centre (where this hotel is located) can take 1.5 hr long as there's serious traffic jam around the city centre."

"Although I don't usually stay at this hotel chain in Japan, it's the only Japanese-affiliated hotel in Mongolia. The room layout was almost identical to what you'd find in Japan, and the flow was excellent, so I felt very secure and comfortable during my stay."

"This hotel is located near the train station and is run by Chinese owners. The facilities are all brand new and offer excellent value for money! (Compared to the Hill Hotel I stayed at on my first night in Ulaanbaatar, I literally laughed when I saw their ancient hairdryer with an overheating protection that looked like it hadn't been updated in over a decade). The hotel's second floor has a restaurant where you can enjoy delicious Chinese food. You can also contact the owner if you need to rent a car or arrange airport transfers."
