Hotels near Nijo Castle, Kyoto

Having stayed in many capsule hotels, this one offered the best experience by far. It has a large public bath and individual shower rooms, as well as a common lounge. Plus, there's a free lactic acid drink served in the afternoon. Most other hotels require guests to check out by 10 AM, but this one has no such strict rule, allowing residents to return to the hotel for a rest during midday, which makes traveling much more convenient and flexible. There's also a supermarket and duty-free shop nearby, which is very handy. The only downside is that the transportation isn't as convenient as I'd hoped. While it's easy to get there by bus, the bus frequency is quite low, and if you take the subway, it's at least a 15-minute walk. I'd definitely choose this chain of capsule hotels again!

Super cool design - the Japanese architecture and interior design are amazing! The location is excellent and very convenient! The staff are polite and willing to help. Because it's a hostel, the shared spaces are large and beautiful. The West Building has computers for internet access, a fully equipped kitchen (where guests can cook), and a lounge/reading area – it’s truly ZEN and very modern! The only drawback is that the rooms are small, just a washbasin, bed, and bathroom. There's no table, chairs, or any space to sit. But I guess that just encourages everyone to go out and explore or socialize downstairs and meet new people 😉

A hotel full of nostalgic and Japanese-style homestays, suitable for multi-person family travel and living, there is a small park nearby, children like it very much, although there is no parking, but it is also very close to the paid parking lot.

Water pressure in both hotel room and onsen was patchy during the 2 nights stay. It was just different when I stayed at urban Nijo this time. Possibly it's shower facility is dated and needed a refresh. Especially the automatic onsen shower spring nob, it turns off almost immediately after pressing. Which requires to keep pressing alot of times to finish showering. Didn't enjoy my time at the onsen.

Very nice place with very thoughful owner. There are some unusual things like closing the place from 12 to 17 and extra charges for luggage keeping, but it's ok for travelers, not for remote workers. Owner keeps everything perfectly clean. He cooks amazing sandwiches for breakfast. They are enough for people who don't like to eat much for breakfast. The place located in a living area with same small private houses nearby. No noise after 9pm. It's a renovated Japanese house. Great choise for those who want to live in Japanese house.

Nice small hotel, they give you umbrella and asked you to keep in your room throughout your stay and only give them back before check out. We came in September so its either scorching hot or raining. It wasn't raining when we were there but hotttt. So the umbrellas are our savior. They have luggage storage, so we left our luggage on our arrival (check in at 3 or 4pm) so we roamed around and came back later at night. At 12MN they will close the door and you need to use the password (they'll let you know beforehand obviously). We came back around 10 or 11pm and all our lugagges were already in our designated room, so convenient. The room is not so small neither very spacious. Just nice for us both, we took turn to open our lugagge. And we didn't shop much in Kyoto. Our iron unfortunately broke when we arrived in Japan. So day 1 in Kyoto we didn't managed to get the iron since another guest already using it (we checked in at night) but the next day the staff kindly went to the other guest room and take iron after they finished using it and sent to our room. We were so grateful. We went to the Kyoto Kawaramachi Station by cab. Since we didn't download the GOtaxi App nor Didi before arriving in Japan, we cannot register the app since they required phone number to send confirmation (we used esim) so we just waived the cab by the road and took about 5-10min to get one. We planned to transport our luggage to Osaka on the same day from Kyoto but we missed the time. You need to send the luggages to the designated (not all Yamato centers offer same day delivery service) Yamato Transport Service Center before 10am for the same day delivery service. We arrived around 10:40am so we got into another cab to the station and bring all of our lugagges with us on the Shinkasen.

Traveling alone, convenient location with many restaurants nearby, clean room, air conditioning already on when I checked in, so it was comfortable. Toilet and bath are shared. The hallway is not air conditioned, so I was surprised at how hot it was when I went to the toilet at night. I think it's because of the crazy temperatures this summer. The front door is locked, and even before the 11pm curfew, you have to ring the intercom to get in, so I think some people find the constant ringing of the intercom annoying. I was exhausted so I went to bed early, so I didn't mind the sound of the intercom.
