The location is very convenient - close to the station and the bus terminal. The staff is friendly and polite. The room was clean (it was very small, but it was enough for me, because I was alone), the view from the window was pleasing) Cleaning was done once a day (with replacement of yukata, towels, toiletries and trash removal).
Three onsen - on the 1st, 3rd floors and on the roof. I visited two - on the roof (it is VERY hot, but it was still great! Photo No. 2) and on the 3rd floor (it is also essentially in the open air, not as hot and also great, photos No. 3 and 4). Reservation of the time to visit the onsen was upon check-in (plus from a certain time all onsens worked as public, with free access).
P.s. The local cats are adorable! 😊

Located a convenient 10 minute walk from Yufuin station, Sansuikan is a great option if you're looking to treat yourself for a night. There are free flow snacks and drinks (including alcohol) in the lobby, and the dinner and breakfast are all-you-can-eat buffet style, also with free flow drinks. There are two onsens, M/F on the 1st/2nd floor and they swap service twice daily. Both floors have outdoor onsen (rotenburo) but the 1st floor onsen is much larger and includes a sauna. Do note the buffet signages were in Japanese only, so you may need to approach the staff for assistance if you aren't fluent. (Their staff are fluent in English.) Overall I was quite impressed with the experience for the price point. Would come back next time 😊
Our charm lies in allowing guests to relax freely and at their own pace—more than preset schedules or arrangements from the hotel, guests can enjoy their own time according to their preferences. Located in a tranquil rural area, we are highly regarded as a lodging that offers the most beautiful views of Mount Yufu. From our proud top-floor panoramic bath, guests can enjoy breathtaking, sweeping views of Mount Yufu. In addition, there is an open-air hot spring bath where you can feel the breeze blowing through the basin, along with a sauna that has become popular in recent years. The ever-changing, picture-perfect scenery invites you into a moment of escape from the everyday, like stepping into a painting.

The hospitality was incredible from the moment we arrived, and the property itself is very charming. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize beforehand that guests with tattoos are not allowed in the onsen or sauna, which limited my overall experience and prevented me from enjoying it fully.
Dinner was delicious, but I was a bit surprised that at least one beer was not included, only soft drinks were, and I had to pay extra for it. The room was beautifully arranged, although the view was not very special since it faced a Daihatsu parking lot. We noticed a small detail with the cleaning, but overall everything was very good and I truly appreciated the warm service.

The scenery is beautiful. The road from the station is flat. You can rent the hot springs privately, so you can enjoy them in privacy. Yukatas are provided, which is a nice touch. The room was spacious and clean. The breakfast was really delicious. However, most of the surrounding shops close after 9 p.m. Walking back and forth is painful, and there's no lighting, so I recommend resting at your accommodation. I was so sad that I went out for a drink alone one evening, but I almost died. The location is also great: Kinrin Lake to the top and Unagihime below. First, take a photo of Unagihime Shrine, then head to Busanji, and then Kinrin Lake and Tenso Shrine. Then, you'll see the bustling downtown area on the way back to the station. Next, I'd like to visit the left side of Yufuin. I was short on time because I tried to squeeze so many places into two nights and three days. It would be a good idea to visit the left side of Yufuin on the first day, stay at Hikari no Ie, then visit the right side, and then follow Silky Road to Beppu.

The town was quiet and uncrowded, and very clean. The Kaiseki dinner was absolutely delicious. While the hotel's facilities aren't the newest, they are impeccably clean. The large communal hot spring bath was never crowded, making for a truly comfortable and relaxing soak. It's a beautiful and very peaceful onsen ryokan.

A very comfortable, clean, and warmly attended hot spring inn.
I would definitely choose this inn again next time I visit.
I felt completely relaxed as soon as I checked in. The room was filled with the aroma of tea, which was very soothing and relaxing.
The staff were also very helpful and welcoming.

The hotel staff are mostly Korean, and the owner is also Korean. We booked a triple room on the first floor, which was conveniently close to the outdoor onsen. The room itself was spacious and clean. The onsen was also excellent.
We visited on a weekday, and it seemed like there were only two groups of guests, including us. It felt like we had the dining area and the onsen all to ourselves. Aside from briefly seeing them at the front desk, we didn't encounter the other guests at any other time.
We had booked a package that included dinner. The dinner was a delightful, multi-course Japanese meal (kaiseki-style), where each dish was introduced and served individually, only after the previous one was finished. Upon departure, a complimentary shuttle service to the station was provided.
However, getting there upon arrival was a bit tricky; we had to take a taxi (around 1000 JPY) as it involved an uphill walk, and it was quite hot. Walking would have taken 30-40 minutes.
The hotel is a convenient 10-15 minute walk from Kinrin Lake and the 'Fairytale Village.' You could easily visit these attractions in the morning, return, and then check out before departing.
If you need to do laundry, there's a coin-operated laundromat a 7-8 minute walk away (as shown in Pic 4). For those who prefer to buy their own breakfast, a convenience store is a 10-minute walk, conveniently located on the way to Kinrin Lake.

The most unforgettable moment of my trip to Yufuin was my stay at Oyado Kaikatei Ryokan.
From the moment I checked in, the staff's bright smiles and meticulous attention to detail truly impressed me. Each member of staff genuinely welcomed me, making me feel as if I was visiting family I'd known for years.
The room was impeccably clean, and I was impressed by the attention to detail. The refined Japanese interior calmed my mind, and the tranquil scenery of Yufuin outside the window was truly healing.
And the meal... was truly unforgettable. Each kaiseki meal, meticulously prepared, was a truly unforgettable experience, a sight, a smell, and a taste.
The delicate dishes, made with seasonal ingredients and beautifully presented, brought a smile to my face throughout the evening.
More than anything, the staff's warm service was truly impressive. They were attentive to even the smallest requests and went above and beyond to make the fatigue from my trip disappear in an instant. Thanks to this kind of attentive hospitality, my time in Yufuin will be even more special and memorable.
The next time I visit Yufuin, I will return here without hesitation.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone at Oyado Kaikatei Ryokan for providing such a wonderful and warm stay. 🌸

This is my second ryokan, and I didn't like it.
They didn't offer me standard tea when I checked in.
When they checked me into my room, they didn't tell me the rules and nuances. If this had been my first ryokan, I would have been completely lost as to what to do. The hotel has no grounds, the photos are just the paths to the rooms from the outside.
The onsen was not bad, but there was a constant smell of some kind of kerosene.
The kaiseki is ok, but for some reason they don't explain what they bring and how to eat it properly. They put the beef on to boil, and no one said that the dish was ready and you can eat it!!! Just figure it out yourself.
The same thing happened at breakfast - if you don't ring the bell and don't bother the waiters, you'll eat at the wrong time and it's cold and tasteless - again, we're talking about the fact that you may not know anything about the rules for preparing these dishes, and they don't bother to explain.
When they write that there is a transfer from the station, it is only at a certain time, and not when it is convenient for you.

I feel that any words can't express my wonderful experience, maybe it's more appropriate to use pictures. The Imperial Su is located in a calm countryside, there are not many tourists this season, the house is very new, there are 7 rooms, each yard has a private soup. According to the waiter, they have another old store nearby. This shop was originally a restaurant, so the meal was perfect, the visual feast plus the taste bud feast, I can say my luck is too good.

GGuest UserBeautiful and lovely onsen hotel with very helpful staff. This time there are two private onsen baths in our room, one indoor and one outdoor. It is quite inside the facility and relaxing. The quality of food was excellent too. The entrance to the hotel is not easy to find, as the street can be full of people and the entrance sign isn't such visible. You may want to seek help by contacting the hotel if you have trouble finding the entrance especially when you are driving there for the first time.
AAnonymous UserGreat onsen experience. The package with half broad, meal was great. Also the room has indoor private onsen. Should try experience (but a bit pricy 😅)
GGuest UserThis was a wonderful stay. After a short tour of Yufuin, the shuttle service I'd requested arrived in front of Yufuin Station. We enjoyed welcome tea in the lounge and were then guided to our accommodation. Having a Korean guest made it even more comfortable. The accommodation was clean and spacious, with everything we needed. The fridge was free of charge, and the coffee was delicious. Think of it as a private, standalone pension. The bathroom and sink were separate, both spacious and comfortable. The hair dryer and curling iron were also provided, which was incredibly convenient. Usually, hotel hair dryers are weak and take a long time to dry, but this one was the best! The manager and staff were all friendly, and I went with my mom and was very satisfied. The photos don't show everything, but this was the best accommodation I've ever stayed in Japan. I'd love to go back with someone special!
GGuest UserFantastic accommodation. There's 5 onsen that you can try out during your stay. Food is really good with free flow alcohol for dinner. Really sweet of the staff to prepare snacks and a complimentary Polaroid shot when you check out. Everything is just so comfortable and fuss-free.
GGuest UserIt is far from Yufuin Station and you must take a car to get there. The hotel will provide pick-up and you can call them when you arrive at the station. The room is a bit old, but clean, and comes with a private open-air hot spring. The booking type includes the use of the family hot spring, but it's nothing special. Breakfast and dinner are both very rich, and the staff will come to the room to make the bed during dinner.
Finally, the staff was very friendly and the experience was great 👍
GGuest UserIs a good experience, I liked the Japanese style of it, the location is good, away from the Main Street for around 5mins walking distance. There is a local supermarket near by.
staffs can’t speak other languages but Japanese we used Google translate which worked well. I stayed 2 nights, breakfast and dinner were very good too.
GGuest UserThe service they provide is up and beyond. I love how this whole place is set up in such a way for people to mingle. I wish I could have stayed longer and chat with the people. Unfortunately I think it was off peak season so there weren't many people. The owner is generous and friendly, people that stays there are good natured people. The owners sang country road to everyone that leaves in the morning, very heart warming and eye teary especially when I met a wonderful old couple from kagoshima during the wonderfully made breakfast. The common area, which is the dining area, has a scenic view of outside, and the main city that lights up a little at night and beautifully decorated interior. It feels like home. I also enjoyed the indoor onsen too. My favourite bit was the classical music playing in the background, and how accessible it is, like a backyard. If you stay here, return the deed by being good guests.
KKa YanA hot spring hotel with one night and two meals. It is very convenient to have a private hot spring in the room. The public bath is relatively small, but not crowded. There was no one there when I went there that morning, and I enjoyed the outdoor hot spring very comfortably. The room is in traditional Japanese style, very comfortable and hygienic. The staff does not speak English very well, but they will try their best to communicate with guests through mobile phone translation and other methods, so there is basically no problem.
The food was prepared carefully, but the dinner was not to my taste, but the breakfast was a surprise. There were free popsicles, hot spring eggs and beer. The location is far from the station, 20 minutes walk, but people usually go to Yufuin to visit Yunotsubo Street. If you walk from Yunotsubo Street, it is still okay to walk there in 10 minutes. The check-out time is 12 o'clock, which is good. After breakfast in the morning, you can go back to the room and enjoy the hot spring time in the morning before leaving.
Overall, it was a very satisfactory accommodation experience. I enjoyed the hot springs and will consider staying here again next time I visit Yufuin.
TTERERSAThe views are open and expansive, but the location is a bit far from the station, nestled in the mountains. However, there's a shuttle bus available for reservation. The room includes a private onsen and both breakfast and dinner. The front desk service was attentive; even though we had an early dinner reservation and many people wanted to move theirs up, we weren't able to eat any earlier, but they did their best to maintain our original booking. Overall, it was pretty good. The room lighting was a bit dim, but generally clean.
根根伴鷹進Although the hotel is a bit old, it's exactly the style and feel I wanted: rustic decor, beautiful surroundings, a first-class private bath, and a great location—perfect for anyone who enjoys hiking. Dinner and breakfast were incredibly plentiful. In short, it was fantastic, and I'll definitely come back.
