Amazing
SSongrentoudehaopengyouสงกรานต์Because of the soaring housing prices during the Sapporo Snow Festival, I chose to stay in Otaru at a similar price😀
At first, I didn't consider the distance between the canal and Otaru Station. I was really annoyed to drag my suitcase on the skating snow road in Otaru for about 20 minutes. I learned my lesson when I checked out and asked the front desk to help me call a taxi, starting at 700 yen😆
The front desk layout of this hotel is very much like the hot spring hotel in old movies in the 1950s. The souvenirs sold are of good quality but a little expensive. Although hot spring hotels have a hot spring tax of 150 yen per day, they have small gifts such as snacks, which feel like they are worth it😘
The service staff are very enthusiastic. The general decline in the level of the service industry in Japan does not seem to exist in their home, just like the old five-star hotels😁
The breakfast quality is good. Can you believe it? There are fruits and strawberries🍓. On the morning of check-out, they also sent a fried fish. Although I am not used to it, I am still very grateful😂
GGuest UserStayed at Sho Inn for 1 night in Otaru. It’s a little out of the way from the Otaru station if you do not drive, but they offer shuttle service to the Otaru Canal and Otaru station when you check out! The host Hideshi was incredibly kind, even going the extra mile to bring my neck pillow, which I had accidentally left in the accommodation after check out, to the Otaru station at my preferred time that evening. It was a gesture testament of the great hospitality of the Japanese. Would definitely recommend this place especially if you’re a solo traveller / prefer your own private space instead of going to those hostels with double deckered beds and curtains!
SSmile0330The guy at the counter at night was very friendly and, to my surprise, spoke excellent Chinese. This greatly reduced the fear of traveling alone and not being able to speak the language. The tatami room was very comfortable and easily slept six people. There was a large floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the Japanese-style garden. It was a truly immersive experience. I'd definitely visit again if I had the chance.
Yyuki-daizuYou can hear footsteps, voices, and doors opening and closing, so it may be difficult for families with small children, but it was a very pleasant inn for adults to stay at.
The shower room was small, but nicely appointed and had plenty of water pressure, so I was satisfied.
SScudLimCozy Inn is superb, can easily be reached by bus or by car. Plenty of parking spaces. Room is big and clean. Close to Aeon and Daiso. Walkable to the canal if you are not driving. Check in uses machine and strictly only after 3pm, so do not come early. Overall, I highly recommend!
LluxbabyYou can stay cheaply during the peak season in Hokkaido.
Parking is free, which is especially good for those traveling by rental car.
You can think of the interior as a caravan without a kitchen.
It's a bit cold on winter nights.
However, if you keep the heater on, it's fine.
GGuest UserAdvantages: The natural environment is good, the surrounding green waters and green mountains, the air is fresh, and the stars can be seen at night.
Disadvantages: far from the city, there is a large hotel around the hotel that can provide catering services. There is no hair dryer in the room, no pot for boiling water (the hair dryer is shared at the front desk, and there is a water dispenser for boiling water in the corridor). There is no table in the room, it is not convenient to put things. The room type provided is different from the description of Trip.com (no sofa).
GGuest UserThe hotel was great. They accommodating all our needs. The room was clean and spacious and the breakfast buffet was delightful! The photos are right out our window. There is literally a resort across the street. The onsen was clean and relaxing. Parking available.
CchokyPros: The room was very spacious, the largest I've stayed in Japan, and the bed was comfortable. The room was clean and tidy, and it had a refrigerator.
Cons:
1. It's a bit far from the shopping street, and the surroundings are quite empty. Of course, Otaru isn't very big, so you can get anywhere within a 1km walk.
2. The hotel originally stated they offered pickup/drop-off service from the JR station, but upon arrival, they said there was no driver. The explanation felt very perfunctory.
3. There's no designated place to change clothes in the room, not even a screen for privacy. There's also no rack for clothes in the bathroom. This would be extremely awkward and inconvenient unless you're a couple.
4. There are very few power outlets. For three beds, there was only one outlet by the headboard, which was being used by an air purifier. In total, including the one by the sink, there were only three outlets in the entire room.
Additionally, the elevator was broken on the day of check-in, which was inconvenient. Housekeeping isn't provided during your stay; you have to proactively request fresh towels or trash bags.
EEng YeowThis apartment offers a practical and comfortable stay, especially for those looking to explore Otaru on foot. We appreciated the basic utensils and cutlery provided, making it easy to prepare simple meals. The thoughtful inclusion of toothbrushes and toothpaste was a nice touch, and the microwave was handy for quick reheats.
Comfort is well-addressed with one air-conditioner and a heater, ensuring a pleasant temperature regardless of the weather. The washing machine was a huge convenience, and we had options for drying clothes either on the hanger stand inside the room or on the balcony.
The location is a major highlight, being within easy walking distance to both Otaru Canal and Sakaimachi Street. We also found it convenient to have a Lawson and various eateries nearby, though it's a good idea to check their opening hours as they can vary.
Important Considerations for Your Stay
While the location is excellent, it's important to note that the road leading to the building is steep. This could be particularly challenging if you're driving, and we would not advise driving during winter due to the road conditions.
For those with a car, there are two parking areas available. The closer one has three slots, while a slightly further option offers approximately 12 slots. Keep this in mind, especially if you prioritize a closer parking spot.
For hotels with Parking in Otaru, the average price on weekdays is RUB 23,935, and on weekends (Friday–Saturday) is RUB 26,247.
