Koh Chang Hotels with Rooftop Pools

"Pros: A good value-for-money hotel. While it doesn't have a beach, it boasts many beautiful coconut trees. The facilities are standard, which is understandable given the reasonable price. Cons: We booked a sea view room precisely because of their attractive coconut trees. A month in advance, we wrote to the hotel asking for a room on a higher floor if possible. However, upon check-in, they assigned us a corner room on the first floor, which had no sea view at all and was obstructed by the corridor and plants in front! When we discussed this with the front desk, they claimed that higher floor rooms were reserved for long-stay guests. I was absolutely fuming! Our 5-day stay isn't exactly short, and we paid the same price as everyone else, so there shouldn't be such preferential treatment. We strongly suspect the hotel didn't even read our message. Only after negotiating with the front desk were we able to switch to a second-floor room on the following day. This whole experience with the front desk significantly dampened our check-in experience. "Located on beautiful White Sand Beach, this purported five-star resort is one of the more luxurious offerings on the island. It is however quite far from the main town (+40 mins by songthaew taxi), with mostly mediocre tourist things in the direct vicinity (expect 150 THB+ one-way to reach any decent restaurant). I booked it because my friends stayed there, so I had little choice, regretfully. While the staff is friendly, warm and helpful, showcasing true Thai hospitality at its best, it could not overcome the poor hotel experience. Especially since the hotel drives up prices aggressively: I paid almost 4x what my friends paid for the exact same accommodation (12K THB/night), severely damaging the value-for-money assessment. Arrival sets the tone. No porters at the lobby until I attempted to haul my luggage upstairs myself. Rooms are not available before 2pm; even if you book in advance and communicate early arrival, you can just go fish. Front desk staff is friendly but very busy, and I was turned away as they prioritized departing guests. Not exactly the warm welcome expected at this price. There is no air-conditioned space in the lobby, so guests wait in the heat or purchase a coffee next door. The “guest lounge” turned out to be a derelict storeroom with no air-conditioning, stacked with leftover furniture and no bar or restaurant in sight. Despite audacious pricing, this is not a true five-star establishment. It is a mass-market, high-volume family beach resort with four pools, devoid of exclusivity or subtlety. The two main pools host happy hours for early afternoon binge-drinking. The other two have zero service and poor maintenance (closed bar, broken chairs). The resort is huge: a quieter Villa section; a main section with dated “Deluxe” rooms; and an annex Hillside building across the road with a rooftop pool and slightly newer rooms. Rooms are reasonably furnished with good amenities (beach bag, towels, slippers), but cleanliness is a serious issue. Upon arrival my floor was sandy and the room infested with mosquitoes due to sloppy cleaning practices. Requests for water, towels and ice went unanswered for hours. The Deluxe room is worn down, clearly a converted twin, leaving no bedside sockets to charge a phone. There was not even a socket for the room’s own lamps. Amateur hour. After one night I had to move to Hillside due to booking issues; there was no way to remain in the same room. The rooms are newer, but the building feels poorly maintained. You walk past stacks of old mattresses left in the open to reach a musty elevator. The annex reception doubles as an evening gathering spot for guests drinking and smoking. My “hillside poolview” room overlooked the main road and next-door private pools, offering little privacy. Facilities were marginally better, but still not worth the price. Bed was fine. Housekeeping was dreadful: the bathroom was skipped altogether, leaving a dirty toilet and used toiletries untouched. At this price and class, unforgivable. Again, many mosquitoes. Breakfast at the main restaurant is decent and service good: made-to-order eggs, Thai pork noodle soup, warm Thai and Western dishes, plus oats, pastries, fruits and juices. Served until 10:30am, and credit to management for not shutting it down on the dot. Other facilities are worn by intensive use: sunbeds (hard to secure), main pools (single entrance despite huge size), and spa (beachfront massage amid constant noise of children). In conclusion, without most of the excellent staff, this would have been a nightmare. Their friendliness could not compensate for offensively priced, poorly cleaned rooms and a mediocre mass-market resort experience. Refuse this place if it asks more than 6K THB per night. At higher prices, there are true five-star options; at this level, better value exists elsewhere."

"Very beautiful place built right into the cliffside. We got the room with a private pool! Has is own beach and restaurant. The breakfast buffet was amazing and staff were so friendly. So relaxing and would go back if I ever come back to Thailand 😊"

"The hotel is old, like really old, it was built in 1989 and it’s very visible. The bedsheets, towels are so old and dirty like 2 star motel. Deluxe family room looks like rooms in 1989 also. Not modern at all. We upgraded to villa (had to pay a lot for this) and it’s good, a bit old but much better, with beach view and private territory. The territory of hotel is really beautiful and big, it’s like a park and beach is great. You can also take cayak to get to the small island nearby. The birds (hornbills) that live at the hotel are really beautiful and worth seeing! Everything closes really early - even game room - it’s just a room with board games and we wanted to play there and the staff told us that they were closing at 7.30 p.m! Why not open this room until 10 at least 😀 No evening activities at all. Everything gets quiet and dead at 7 p.m. There is beach cinema announcement at reception on Sundays, but when we arrived on Sunday, the staff told us that there will be no movies 🫣 Отель очень старый, просто древний, постельное белье и полотенца в ужасном состоянии. Семейный номер на горе - это просто ужас. Детский бассейн на горе ушатанный. Единственное достойное в этом отеле - виллы с видом на море. В них нормальная мебель, полотенца и особое меню на завтраках. Прекрасная территория и пляж. Птицы-носороги - это восторг. Обезьяны нас не беспокоили - но мы жили на вилле рядом с морем. Думаю, в лесных номерах их полно.. В 7 часов вечера в отеле все закрывается, полная тишина. Никаких развлечений. Пляж прекрасный, надеюсь, что отель займется реновацией номеров, приведением их в современный стиль."

"It was an amazing experience! Hotel have a great restaurant with delicious food and with perfect location by the sea , so everyone can enjoy beautiful view . You can either rest at the beach or at the pool , both have great view . And btw at the pool also have mini bar with delicious cocktails 🍸 I went to do massage and this was WOW! 🤩 cooling aloe effect was perfect for my burned skin , and atmosphere in the room was so relaxed . The room was something special, have personal big bath 🛁 there . Definitely wanna return to this hotel ."

"Потрясающий отель! В номере достаточно чисто (у нас был вип3) Вкусные разнообразные завтраки. Очень дружелюбный персонал! Отвечали на любые вопросы, даже на которые и не обязаны отвечать. У отеля можно сказать свой пляж, свои лежаки в огороженной территории. Каждый день сотрудники убирают и пляж и территорию, это приятно удивило и порадовало! Сам отель тоже чистый и оформлен в интересном эко стиле. Очень удобное расположение в тихом местечке, при этом до ближайшего магазина и ресторанов всего 5-6минут. По мне так это самое удобное расположение на всем пляже. На другом конце каждый день выгуливают слонов, можно подойти пофоткаться. Впервые были на этом острове и остались очень приятные впечатления! Спасибо за такое гостеприимство! Однозначно 10 из 10!"

"The Hotel has an excellent location with restaurants and supermarket nearby. My recommendation is to check in only in the beach facing rooms as the view is awesome. From other rooms there is no view. The beach is very rocky but you can walk up a few minutes and it gets better. I have given average rating only because of lack of basic facilities. There is no room service or in-room dialing. You need to contact reception through Whatsapp. Basic amenities like toothpaste, clothes hook, sugar, teabags, milk sachets are not in the room. Only limited coffee pouches are given per day. This is not expected from a premium resort. The breakfast is nice esp. the eggs made to order and cheese platter. Overall we had a good stay due to the location of the room. The management needs to just do a bit extra to make it a top grade Hotel"

"Over 200, I'm so satisfied. I originally booked another hotel, but one day there were no rooms available. I decided to stay here for a short break, and I was pleasantly surprised. The white sand beach is right outside your doorstep, so you can hit the waves anytime. The sound of the ocean is right beside your ears. The ocean view restaurant is also great, with the wind chimes playing beautifully. It's so relaxing to relax on the beach, enjoying a drink and a bite to eat while feeling the sea breeze. The hotel is mostly occupied by Europeans and Americans. While it's not a luxury hotel, it has a very relaxing atmosphere. On the other side is the street, filled with small shops. There are 7-Elevens on both sides, so you can shop anytime. For those who aren't looking for a high-end experience, I highly recommend this hotel."
