Best Panda Hotels in China: Where to Stay Near Panda Bases

Looking for the best panda hotels in China? From panda-themed stays near Chengdu Panda Base to convenient hotels near Panda Valley in Dujiangyan, here are the best places to stay for your panda adventure.

Where to See Pandas in China

Chengdu: The Best Base for a First Panda Trip

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is one of the main highlights for travelers visiting China's giant pandas for the first time. Chengdu also offers the widest range of hotels, including panda-themed accommodations near the research base.

Staying near the base makes it easier to arrive early for your visit, while downtown Chengdu offers more choices for restaurants, shopping, and sightseeing. Choose your location based on how much time you plan to spend at the panda base versus exploring the city.

Dujiangyan: A Convenient Base for Visiting Panda Valley

Panda Valley is located in Dujiangyan, outside central Chengdu, so visiting it involves a separate trip. The conservation and nature education center is about 50 km (31 miles) from Chengdu and around 3 km (1.9 miles) from downtown Dujiangyan.

If Panda Valley is a priority on your itinerary, consider staying in Dujiangyan rather than making the trip from Chengdu. Check the official ticket and reservation information before planning your visit.

Other Places to See Giant Pandas in China

Beyond Chengdu and Dujiangyan, travelers can also explore other panda destinations, including Ya'an's Bifengxia Panda Base and the Wolong/Gengda area. These are separate destinations that require additional travel planning, rather than day-to-day extensions of a Chengdu city stay.

Before booking accommodation, check the location of the specific panda facility, available visitor access, and transportation options. If you plan to stay nearby, confirm that hotels are operating and accepting reservations for your travel dates.

You may also encounter giant pandas at zoos and wildlife attractions in other Chinese cities. However, animal exhibits and visitor access can change, so check the attraction's latest visitor information before choosing where to stay.
