Renyi Inn
"Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. I will be uploading more photos and videos of my stay in Datong and travels in China on my YouTube channels once I'm back in UK. Check out my YouTube channels TheTravelDiary and goody2shoos for more information. Happy travels."
Datong Jixiashan · SUNYATA Resort Hotel
"Shortly after booking the hotel, I was added to a concierge service group, and they contacted us in advance. The hotel is located within the ancient city, just a 2-minute walk from the Dongnanyi business district. Huayan Temple and Daiwang Mansion are also nearby, making it incredibly convenient for getting around! The hotel's style is perfect for photos, and the bedding is clean and high-quality, which is great for someone as particular as me. The hotel has its own Yungang Art Museum for guests to visit, and every staff member, from the front desk to the back office, was polite and courteous. In the afternoon, they provided tea, snacks, and dried fruits, and for late-night returns, there was a sweet pear soup – every detail was meticulously thought out. Breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes, including salmon, steak, and sliced noodles. During the May Day holiday, there were Guzheng performances and fire pot shows in the evening. It was a very pleasant stay!"

Datong Onetwo Hotel(Datong ancient city Daiwangfu shop)
"The homestay was a surprise to my family & I. Loved the ancient vibe exterior but super modern interior design. The beds are comfy, spacious room and clean bathrooms. Staff are super helpful. Definitely will recommend to all my families and friends. Just 2mins walk to the Ancient City Wall"
Longxuan Residence Light Luxury Elegant Accommodation
"The hotel is located close to a lively area, making it very convenient to explore nearby shops and restaurants. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. They kindly picked us up at the railway station and helped us arrange a car rental to visit Xuankong Temple, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, and the Yungang Grottoes. The breakfast was also delicious and a great way to start the day. Their hospitality and assistance made our trip much easier and more enjoyable."
Datong Xinyu Crown Hotel
"Very good hotel. Highly recommended"
Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion (Huayan Temple Branch, Datong Ancient Town)
"The location of the hotel is good, easy access from main road to get big bags to it and also to go around the ancient city both during day and night time to enjoy all the landmarks. Missing signages make it a bit difficult to find the hotel at first. Also, while we had paid for a bigger rooms the room barely had walking space. It had no luggage storage space or cabinet. The washroom and room floor was not cleaned. Staff on the other hand are very friendly and willing to help with all the questions - on local travel, places to see, vegetarian food, etc. They find a way to help to the best. All in all was a good experience and would have been better with some adjustments."
Meijing Hotel
"Large room plus super large TV ( although only china channels ). Beds were clean but mattress a bit springy. The staffs were very friendly and the free breakfast provides enough foods for basically Chinese guests . For foreigners esp muslims guest would be challenging. Location is centrally near all amenities. Good price for stay - recommended."

BAILI Designer Homestay
"The overall design is exquisite. The underfloor heating in the room was comfortable, and I loved the scent of the Le Labo toiletries. The bedding was high-quality, ensuring a great night's sleep. Breakfast was delicious, and the location was convenient."
Willow Ying Hotel (Yungang International Airport Branch of Datong South Railway Station)
"A fantastic hotel! The bedding was clean, the overall environment was tidy, and the front desk staff were very friendly. The breakfast selection was extensive and comprehensive; even if you went late, it was fine. The hot milk and coffee were delicious, and the self-service latte was especially nice! 😋 The lobby was lovely, the elevators were spacious, and the overall decor was beautiful. The only drawback was the limited availability of smart room controls; I hope they can add features like smart toilets and voice-activated services. Overall, it was a great hotel experience, truly making me feel at home. Highly recommended! 😘"
PINGCHENGFUHOTEL
"Every detail of this hotel was top notch! It was our first time in Datong, and staying at pingcheng hotel was one of the best decision we made! From the moment you arrive they greet you with a welcome drinks and fruits! The foot bath service felt amazing after a long day walking around the grottoes. The hotel is located in the quieter quarter of the ancient city. I would totally go back to stay at this hotel! They even got us a bag of Shanxi souvenirs!💖 The only thing I'd recommend to improve would be the breakfast selection. Adding cheese & ham and some other continental breakfast option would be great for foreign tourists."
Yunzhong Inn
"Nestled in the heart of the ancient city, it offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle while being incredibly convenient for exploring. The exquisitely designed courtyard is perfect for unwinding and clearing your mind after work. The staff are incredibly helpful, attentive, and thoughtful, striking the perfect balance between being there for you and respecting your privacy. A definite five-star experience."

Datong Huangjing Century Hot Spring Hotel
"The staff's service was particularly commendable; the young lady greeted us with a warm smile upon check-in. She always greeted us proactively, making us feel especially cared for. The hot spring water was clear and had a distinct natural mineral aroma."
Datong Yunzhong Banshan Hotel
"The place with beauty is that there is a road construction that needs to be around. The boss is very caring to take in a lot of stray dogs. This offsets the twists and turns of the road. The food is also delicious. 😋 Pet Friendly B&B"
Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale , Datong
"The room was spacious and spotlessly clean! The breakfast offered a good variety, including Shanxi specialties like knife-cut noodles and cold noodles. Plus, there's a Fenglincourt branch restaurant right on the first floor of the hotel, which makes dining very convenient. It's also super close to the ancient city."
Datong Hotel
"Located Just outside the ancient Town (about 15 minutes walk) Is a good Place to stay. Good staff, very Easy to reach with taxi and didi. Clean and quiet. Bed very soft and comfortable. Please Just note that the swimming pool Is used for childrens swimming classes and very crowded (swimming Is almost impossible)"
Datong Grand Hotel
"The hotel was great but the pool was under renovation which was disappointing"
Da Tong Weidu International Hotel
"After a minor inconvenience they upgraded our room. The staff were friendly and helpful even though we don't speak Chinese they made sure we were comfortable. Thank you"
youqing hotei
"This review is completely unsolicited, and as a Chinese person, I wouldn't mislead another. First off, the location is incredibly convenient. You can spot the hotel right from the traffic light at the North Gate of the Ancient City Wall, making it perfect for visiting attractions like the Ancient City Wall, Huayan Temple, Shanhua Temple, and Daiwang Mansion. Secondly, the hotel itself is very welcoming. There's a children's play area and a coffee shop on the first floor. The rooms are genuinely clean and quiet. The air conditioning vents are built-in, so it's not blowing directly on you, which is very comfortable. Each tissue even has a different blessing on it, and the facilities are all very well-equipped. Also, the sliced noodles at the restaurant are delicious! They're much more to my taste than those at Dongfang Sliced Noodles, for example. We checked in on the evening of the 29th, which was during their soft opening, so there weren't many guests. However, they still diligently prepared breakfast according to our preferences after asking what we wanted. Hats off to them! Finally, the service is truly exceptional! I called in the morning of check-in to reserve a parking spot, and in the evening, they asked about our breakfast preferences for the next day. There was bottled water available in the hallway, and they patiently answered every single question. The experience was truly, truly excellent. To sum it up, I wholeheartedly recommend it! Full marks!"
JinHuangQi Homestay (Huayan Temple in Datong Ancient City)
"The hygiene, environment, and service were all excellent. However, the facilities weren't perfect. The TV was on top of the sofa facing the door, making it awkward for children to watch. Also, the soaking tub was too small; it was very tiring for adults to use."
Shangdu Yangmuhui Hotel
Kyoto International Hotel (Datong Daqing Road RT-Mart)
"Service: Excellent, the front desk staff was very welcoming. Facilities: The room was very spacious, I'd say it was quite tall, which made for a very comfortable and non-cramped stay. Plus, it had an 'Xiao Du' smart assistant and robot service. Hygiene: The room was very clean, with great attention to detail, even the water glasses had lids. The bathroom glass was also very clean."
Moshang Light Luxury Hotel (Datong Ancient City Huayan Temple Branch)
"The location is great. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was polite and helpful."
I Lai Hotel
"Fantastic Datong Stay! This hotel was a gem! From the start, the experience was warm, kicking off with complimentary noodles and coffee—a lovely welcome treat. The staff is exceptional. Even without speaking Chinese, their warm attention was constant. A huge thank you to Rachel and her colleagues! They were an absolute A-Plus for English speakers and flawlessly handled booking my local bus to the Xuankong Temple and Yungang Grottoes. Truly lifesavers! The location is perfect, being just minutes away and easily walkable to both Datong Old Town and the magnificent City Walls. For convenience, there are plenty of local restaurants and a handy convenience store right nearby. The room itself was spacious, spotlessly clean, and refreshingly smoke-free, and the bed was very comfortable. It was great that we could slightly open the window to manage the heat and humidity. (Just a small note: I do prefer a standard showerhead to the rain shower, but that's minor!)"
Hidden hotel
"I also booked this room. The cleaning staff were quite enthusiastic, but the front desk was absolutely unhelpful. I've stayed at Jianguo Puyin hotels in several cities, and this one has the worst service. I'm a frequent guest, but my family isn't. When we checked in, they didn't tell us the Wi-Fi password. How is someone staying for the first time supposed to know it's on the TV? The late-night snack also got more perfunctory day by day, much worse than the one in Pu'er. On the first night, I called to say the toilet in my room was clogged. They sent a cleaner to fix it, and I saw her report it to the engineering department. I went out sightseeing the next day, so I don't know if anyone came to fix the toilet. By the third morning, the toilet was completely blocked, and water was leaking all over the bathroom. At this point, the front desk said they would help me sort it out, but I was about to check out. What's the point of fixing it then? So frustrating."
Cat's Faraway Hotel (Datong Dongxin Square T98 Brilliant Golden Street)
"We booked twi nights in the room 8816 with the big bath tub. Sadly the floor was not really clean and we could see footsteps all around so we used the slippers all the time. The room wasn't cleaned even though we left the sign on the door asking for it to be cleaned. The bed was comfortable and the room was really nice and quiet overall. With didi you are 10-15minutes away from the old town and same from Datongnan station"
