GRAND PAVILION HOTEL ★★★
"The service is good, the facilities are a bit old, the room is a bit small, it is relatively close to the ancient city, but you still need to take a taxi to get there. Fortunately, the price is not high, there should be more tour groups"

Meijing Hotel ★★★★
"The location is superb, right next to the ancient city and Yangmen, within walking distance. It's also very convenient to drive to attractions like the Yungang Grottoes. PINGCHENGFUHOTEL
"The housekeeper Qiqi provided excellent service, the driver Xiao Gao was warm and professional, and the breakfast was especially plentiful!"
Wyndham Grand Plaza Royale , Datong
"Everything else was great, but the water in the bathtub was yellowish. I called customer service, but they just brushed me off. I drained and refilled the tub many times, and it was still the same. This doesn't match the 1298 a night room rate. Also, the hotel's conditioner wasn't very good; I hope they can improve it."
Da Tong Weidu International Hotel
"Initially, I was given a windowless room which was a very old king-sized room. All the buttons on the headboard were broken, and there was only one side with a charging port. It was also very noisy as it was close to the elevator. The shower drain had some issues as well. After I gave feedback, they changed me to a windowless tatami room, which was generally okay. However, there weren't enough tissues, and the toilet paper ran out too quickly. The hotel is about a two-kilometer walk from the ancient city. The value for money is just so-so. No one reminded us about the late-night congee service either."
Datong Hotel
"Datong Hotel is located south of Datong Ancient City. It's about a 30-minute walk to the ancient city, so a shared bike would be more convenient. The hotel has two buildings; the Welcome Building has older facilities, while the VIP Building is better. The breakfast spread is very rich, offering many local Datong delicacies. The lamb offal noodle soup, in particular, is very authentic and just as good as what you'd find outside."
Datong Jixiashan · SUNYATA Resort Hotel
"The room was comfortable and the surroundings were beautiful. The only downside was that the hallways and outdoor areas were too hot when the weather was warm. Breakfast offered a great variety and tasted delicious, and the staff were particularly enthusiastic and welcoming. The front desk service was generally standard, with a few more experienced staff members being quite proactive in assisting guests."
Datong Grand Hotel
"You truly appreciate the difference when you have something to compare it to. I first stayed at Datong Hotel thirty years ago, so naturally, it was my top choice for this visit to Datong. Let's start with the 'positives'. For my first night, I chose the VIP building, thinking that with the country's rapid development, hotel accommodations must have advanced significantly. The promotional materials also touted its spacious and new rooms. However, upon checking in, I felt it wasn't worth the price. The front desk clearly had better rooms available but was unwilling to offer them without an additional charge for these 'so-called' superior rooms. It makes me wonder if the front desk staff has ever stayed in a four-star hotel or above. The VIP building's only real 'plus' was its larger space; otherwise, nothing felt particularly impressive. In the VIP building, the bathroom fixtures were broken, the walls didn't appear thoroughly scrubbed, and the carpet was dirty. This judgment was drawn from a direct comparison. Dissatisfied with the VIP building, I decisively checked out and opted for the old building, where I had stayed three decades ago. I was touched by the elderly gentleman at the front desk even before seeing the room. Upon checking in, I discovered that apart from the room size being smaller than in the VIP building, everything else was equally good, if not better. The elderly gentleman at check-in introduced the amenities along the way – his service was truly commendable, and I plan to get his name for a special mention in a future review. The old building's walls were freshly painted, and the carpet was notably cleaner than in the VIP building. The toiletries also felt superior to those in the VIP building. The headboard cushions were clean and tidy, and the curtains were elegantly neat and clean. Suggestions for the old building: The TV is quite old; replacing it shouldn't be too expensive. Attention to detail is crucial: the faucet handles, though old, have a noble appearance. The only imperfection is the missing small cap on the handle – a small blemish on an otherwise noble piece. The bathtub drain was malfunctioning. The shower curtain could be raised slightly higher. Since there are paintings, their frames should be clean and clear. The small cap on the toilet seat was also missing. Most importantly, the bathroom floor was quite slippery; measures should be taken to prevent guests from falling. Additionally, the old building's self-promotion is lacking. Enlarged photos of renowned figures who once stayed here should be displayed prominently. No other hotel in Datong boasts such an honor, and that's precisely your unique selling point."
Xi Yue Hotel
"The environment is quite nice, and the service is attentive."
Lihao International Hotel
"The room was very clean and tidy, and the hotel was bright and airy. Because it was peak tourist season and hotels in Datong were too expensive, I chose to stay in Huai'ren District at the last minute. Unexpectedly, the experience was excellent. The room had a high ceiling and was very spacious, and the cleanliness was superb. The only drawback was that the small platform in the shower area would have made showering more convenient if it weren't there. Next time I visit Datong, I will definitely stay in Huai'ren again. The hotel breakfast was very plentiful."
Garden Hotel
"The location is fantastic! Turn left out of the hotel and you're right at the Drum Tower, and Huayan Temple is just a short walk away. In the evening, I grabbed a number at the nearby Longjuxiang restaurant, then came back to the hotel to relax. I only headed back over when it was almost our turn, about half an hour later. The Chinese restaurant here is also delicious; the braised pork belly exceeded my expectations. The hotel's garden is highly regarded by locals too. Overall, I'm very satisfied."
JinHuangQi Homestay (Huayan Temple in Datong Ancient City)
"The hygiene, environment, and service were all excellent. However, the facilities weren't perfect. The TV was on top of the sofa facing the door, making it awkward for children to watch. Also, the soaking tub was too small; it was very tiring for adults to use."
Yunzhong Chaoran Pavilion (Huayan Temple Branch, Datong Ancient Town)
"The kids were so excited about the bunk beds! The inn is right on the edge of the old city, not far from core areas like Gulou East Street and Dongnanyi, which is great because it's quiet. There's a free underground parking lot downstairs, which is very convenient for those driving. However, I do have a small suggestion: the inn charges 7 yuan an hour for EV charging, and it's a slow charger, which isn't very friendly for new energy vehicles. I understand charging for the service, but I feel that having this facility is more for the convenience of guests. Perhaps a more reasonable approach would be to charge a service fee based on off-peak electricity rates, plus a small markup to cover costs. Lastly, I hope the inn continues to thrive!"
Four Seasons Holiday Hotel (Datong Yungang Road)
"I was extremely satisfied with my stay! The hotel's location is convenient, close to the subway station and major attractions. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient, and check-in was quick and easy. The room was clean and spacious, the bedding was soft and comfortable, and I slept soundly until morning. The soundproofing was excellent, and I was completely undisturbed. The bathroom was very clean, and the toiletries were of good quality. The breakfast had a wide variety of options and tasted delicious. Overall, it was excellent value for money, and I would definitely choose this hotel again!"
Pingyun Bieyuan (Ancient City Wall Store)
"The hotel offered good value for the price, with decent facilities and a high level of cleanliness. The location was convenient for drop-off and walking into the city, which felt easygoing. I wasn't particularly keen on breakfast options, but maybe my taste and that did offer a western option that we didn’t try. Overall, it was a great experience for the cost & the staff Helen & Fenny were very helpful and made our trip easy and seamless."
Moshang Light Luxury Hotel (Datong Ancient City Huayan Temple Branch)
"Stepping into the room, I was instantly wowed by the seamless blend of technology and aesthetic design! The in-room smart voice control was incredibly responsive. The bedding felt like sleeping on clouds, and the separate wet/dry bathroom design was absolutely perfect. Every detail exuded a light luxury vibe; staying here felt like a top-tier reward for both body and mind~ 🌟 The location is super convenient, close to everything. It was easy to get to popular foodie spots and explore the ancient city's attractions. The hotel service was also excellent; they helped with luggage storage, and there was even traditional clothing available for a fun experience!"
