"My first stay at an IntercityHotel was about five years ago in Dresden, Germany. Since then, I've also stayed at their Guangzhou South and Guangzhou East stations. So, when I came to Datong this time, I didn't hesitate to choose the IntercityHotel Datong Ancient City. As always, everything was great. The only issue was that the TV in my room couldn't get any channels last night."

"This hotel is truly excellent! It's super new, and all the facilities are fantastic. I booked a king room with a terrace, and the small terrace was incredibly comfortable and quiet at night. From the professional and polite driver who picked me up to the front desk service, everyone was wonderful. Even though it wasn't my first time visiting Datong, the warm and welcoming people here are the main reason I'd keep coming back. The location, needless to say, is top-notch. I was originally considering booking a room at [redacted mountain hotel], but I'm so glad I made a much better choice here. The breakfast was also incredibly delicious! The 'dao xiao mian' (knife-cut noodles) – with genuinely high-quality pork – and the lamb offal soup were even better than what you'd find outside. (The ones outside are often too salty, to the point where I thought I couldn't handle Datong's lamb offal soup.) I devoured two bowls! While the breakfast spread wasn't huge, everything was truly exquisite. Even the coffee tasted good, indicating quality beans. The chefs were also very kind, and their culinary skills were amazing! Sometimes, you really don't need to chase after '网红店' (internet-famous eateries); what the hotel offers is superior. Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience the swimming pool because I was rushing to a scenic spot. It's surprising that such a small hotel/guesthouse even has a pool! Next time, I definitely need to stay for a few more days to enjoy it. Finally, as someone who is quite a germaphobe and has never stayed in a guesthouse before, this new hotel/guesthouse really met my standards. Highly recommended. The off-season price is also quite reasonable."

Although the room is a bit small, it's well-equipped. Overall, it offers great value for money and I highly recommend it!"

"The hotel is situated not far from the old walled town and equal distance to the shopping area. Formerly a Holiday Inn now independent. The rooms are large and comfortable with good work desk and wifi. Comfortable bed gives good rest. The fridge had been removed but there is kettle and plenty of water, every day some fruit was delivered to the room which I appreciated. Hotel has gym, swimming pool and two restaurant, given the price it was very good value for money and I would happily stay again."

"The hotel was new and the rooms were clean, but the service was terrible! We arrived at the front desk at night, and there were three or four staff members standing there laughing and joking. After I showed my ID, they told me that someone had already checked me in?! It turned out that after a long discussion, they realized it was because a man with the same name as me had booked the same room type, and they gave him the room I had booked in advance (I had noted that I didn't want the last room and wanted it away from the elevator)?! Such a big hotel?! Don't they even check the information when registering guests? The phone numbers are different, and the genders are different too?! While I was standing at the front desk late at night waiting for them to resolve the issue, the receptionist kept yelling about what to do about the man's booking?! Where was I supposed to stand?! She didn't even apologize, and she was yelling at me about the wrong booking!! Am I supposed to fix her problem? Is this how you train your staff for such a big hotel? And this is supposed to be number one on the luxury list? Is this the level of service you're providing? Don't tell me it's because there are too many guests during the Chinese New Year. If you're so busy during the holidays, how could you make a mistake checking guest information? After making me stand for at least ten minutes, they finally gave me a room. They even gave me a last-minute room near the elevator! When I saw this, I called the front desk, and they said, "Oh, all the rooms you booked are last-minute rooms?" Why didn't you write on the booking page that all City View Suites are last-minute rooms? It felt like the staff didn't know what they were doing; the service was completely disproportionate to the hotel's quality! Oh, and by the way, the laundry room was closed during the New Year period, and they didn't mention this at all when I messaged customer service during booking. 😃 The score is for cleanliness and hotel infrastructure; service is zero."

"I'm absolutely amazed at how little I paid for such a large room - it's almost bigger than my own apartment! The hotel is clean and the room had a large working desk and a little extra table that was perfect to have breakfast. If I can say something, I don't prefer their choice of giving disposable towels, but overall the amenities provided were more than enough to have a very decent stay. Note that it's a 10 yuan can ride away from the old town, but well located to catch bus 3 to the Yungang Caves. There are restaurants and stores all around. Recommended."

"The hotel's location is excellent, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. It's just a few minutes' walk to Huayan Temple, and several famous restaurants are also nearby. The hotel restaurant's food is definitely worth trying. My advice: avoid staying in the annex building."

The location is incredibly convenient, close to both the high-speed rail station and the old town, making it super easy to get around to attractions. The hotel is very new and the rooms were spotless, making for a very comfortable stay. The breakfast was surprisingly good, with a wide variety of delicious options, and the staff were very attentive and responsive. Overall, it was a very worry-free stay, suitable for solo travelers or families. I'll definitely consider this hotel again next time I'm in Datong."

"As a loyal Holiday Inn customer, I've stayed at many of their locations. I found the Holiday Inn in Datong to be slightly better than those in Xi'an and Tianjin. Of course, those other Holiday Inns also meet the group's standards, but the Datong one truly stands out. The rooms are quite spacious, and the facilities are newer. In particular, the restaurant offers a 68 yuan set meal for two, which is excellent value for money. The breakfast is also very generous, featuring a delicious lamb offal noodle soup, a true specialty of the Northwest region."
