3-Star Hotels in Shanxi, China

The hotel is located in a beautiful restored traditional house on the very center of Pingyao. The room was clean, comfortable, and everything worked as expected. The hotel offered a few complimentary services too, such as a fish spa and a traditional Chinese costume, which made our stay a little more fun. The staff was kind and helpful.We highly recommend the Elsewhere hotel!

The location is absolutely fantastic, right in the heart of the ancient city. For dining: Xi Jin Dao is downstairs, Fenglin Pavilion is a 10-minute walk, and Long Juxiang offers delivery directly to your phone. Every time we took a taxi back to the inn, we'd get off at Huayan Hotel and walk two minutes. The popular Heshengcai is a 10-minute walk (though the taste was just so-so, and none of the pastries even had an ingredient list). For sights: Huayan Temple is a 5-minute walk. I visited Shanhua Temple at night, which was about a 15-minute walk. During the May Day holiday, there were only about 10 people in the entire temple at night, so we could enjoy a peaceful visit. On the way back and forth, we also saw the city wall's light show and passed through a lantern festival. Rumeng Datong (Dreams of Datong) was also within walking distance. Service was great too. On our last day, we had to leave for the train station at 7:30 AM, and the owner even packed breakfast for us. The lamb offal soup with vermicelli every morning was delicious. The furniture is all elm wood. The loft family room was perfect for our family of three. The only downsides were that the room rate was expensive during May Day, and the bathroom design was a bit impractical.

The location is absolutely fantastic, very close to the city center. When we checked in, they upgraded our room for free, and the owner even helped us with our luggage. When we left, they gave us some handmade vinegar from their shop, and also free outfits and discount vouchers for popular restaurants. It was absolutely wonderful! Since I have relatives in Pingyao, I'll definitely bring them to stay here next time.

The hotel's exterior looks quite grand, and it's especially beautiful when lit up at night. It's very quiet to stay in, even though it's in the city center. The soundproofing on the windows is excellent; once closed, the world outside goes silent. The mattress is very comfortable with good support, so I woke up without any back pain, feeling refreshed. Ive just left the Inn and on the train to the next destination. I wish I could stay longer as this was such a pleasant stay. The boss lady was so nice. I booked just a basic room but got upgraded to almost a studio flat with separate bedroom in the mezzanine and lounge downstairs. Everytime I come back from sightseeing, all hot tired, the boss lady gave me a bowl of delicious melons. It was sweet and juicy. The best melons I have had. The second time she also gave me bananas. It was so much needed. The hotel is in the perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 1. From Datongnan station there are buses 608 or 61 which takes you directly to Huayansi stop, less than 1min from the hotel. However, the hotel frontage is a jewelry shop, I didn't know so ended up walking up/down the street for 10mins before the boss lady realised and came out to tell me I have arrived. 2. If you want to go to Yungang Grottoes. From the same bus stop take bus 38, then change to bus 3 to get to the Grottoes. Journey time about an hour in total. And cost 4RMB (2RMB per bus). However, you have to set up some kind of public travel app from Wechat to get the QR code to pay the bus fare. I didn't know this. Fortunately, some nice people helped pay my fare, then another lovely girl helped set up the app enabling me to use the bus from then as when I arrived and took the bus from the train station to hotel Wechatpay didn't work. Fortunately the driver let me ride for free as I guess he realised Im foreign and don't have this app. Only when I took the bus to Yungang Grottoes, the girl told me I need to set up the travel app etc and helped me set it up. 3. The hotel is also right opposite to the Huayan temple. A beautiful ancient temple. Deffo can't be missed. It is hard to understand how a hotel can have so many problems in two nights, power outage at 10pm + changing four rooms + excavator downstairs at 11pm + crazy knocking on the door while I was sleeping soundly and listening to the male supervisor apologize 1The air conditioner in the first room was a bit noisy, so I changed to the second room 2 The hotel lost power at around 10pm that night and it was completely dark. There was no emergency lighting and no one notified what had happened. 3. I woke up the next morning and found that there was no cover on the bathroom window. The whole room was bright and I couldn't sleep at all. 4 I changed to a third room because I hired a car and was not in the hotel for a day. I left my luggage in the room and left. When I came back and opened the door, the room smelled like a public toilet. 5 changed to the fourth room…The excavator started working downstairs at around 11 o'clock. I'm impressed... I've never seen a large machine working in a city center at 11pm. I was going to change the fifth room, but after a while, the quarrel between other communities and excavators ended. 6I thought the disaster would be over after I checked out the next day. Who would have thought that a male supervisor would knock on my door frantically at around nine in the morning to apologize to me when I was fast asleep. No one paid any attention to him and he kept knocking on the door. What kind of new type of boss is this? ? No matter whether the customer is resting or not, as long as you want to apologize, it doesn’t matter what time it is? ? Is it polite for a man to knock on a woman's door frantically, either at night or in the morning? ? Three stars because the general manager finally came to apologize and refunded the room fee, but the first thing he said to me was that there was construction going on next door to the hotel. Construction next door to the hotel is the least of your problems. I don't know how the employees report the situation. The hotel staff was very nice throughout the whole process and actively changed rooms, but there was no apology or compensation. We changed four rooms but no one offered to help us upgrade the room or anything like that. When I was about to change to the fifth room and I was already very dissatisfied, they said they would give me a fruit plate so that I would not give a bad review... After knowing that I would definitely describe the room truthfully, they knocked on the door frantically early in the morning... What an incredible way to handle the problem.

Came to Shanxi with my mom and chose the Shengmei Boutique Hotel. It's located in the bustling Liuxiang, perfect for exploring and dining, and very close to Zhonglou Street. Although the hotel has been around for a while, the interior facilities and environment are excellent. The mattress is very comfortable, especially the pillows – they even have buckwheat ones, which my mom loved 😊. There's a small water dispenser in the room providing bottled water, which is super convenient. Highly recommend staying here.

Today, I stayed at this homestay in Mujing Yunting. I really felt the simplicity and comfort of the ancient city courtyard and the historical and cultural artistic conception. The house is a brick and tiled ancient building. The environment in the house is comfortable. The store also carefully prepared local specialty snacks. The first time I tasted the flavorful vinegar paste, Yanggao apricot, seabuckthorn fruit, etc. Sitting on tatami mats, looking up and seeing the blue sky and white clouds. The ancient porcelain bottles placed in the room are more charming, and there are free local special drinks in the small refrigerator, seabuckthorn juice, almond dew, and volcanic springs; The ancient murals on the stairs show Datong style and Huayan Temple and other monuments on the wall, and the Liaojin painting style atmosphere is full. Today there is a light rain, the details of the store are particularly in place, and the spare umbrella is prepared at the door. You can't be afraid of sudden rain when you go out to play. It is intimate and thoughtful.

First time in Taiyuan to see Xue Zhiqian's concert. The hotel location is great, close to the train station and subway entrance, and the shuttle bus stop is right next to it. The hotel service was also excellent; Lobby Manager Wang Qian was very attentive and helped us solve many problems. The hotel price and cleanliness are both very good, and the hotel restaurant food is delicious. It's a perfect place to stay when visiting Taiyuan. Taiyuan's tourism and culture scene is really making a big impression!

What a pleasant surprise this stay was! (´▽`) The location is excellent, right next to the district government and very close to the ancient city, making it super convenient for getting around. There's a delicious knife-cut noodle place nearby that opens at 6:30 AM, and the Tangjiu convenience store next door also opens early. The first floor has a lovely book bar where you can borrow books for free, and they serve coffee and cocktails – perfect for enjoying a drink while reading. So many interesting books too! I also really loved their decor; the tatami mat rooms have a dedicated reading table, and the mattress was incredibly comfortable. The disposable amenities were comprehensive, and that horse oil toiletries set left me feeling moisturized inside and out (in a good way!). What really stood out during my stay were the front desk ladies. They were all so wonderful, always greeting us warmly when we returned. Their service was incredibly attentive and so heartwarming! 🥺 Any request we had was met quickly. Thanks to them, I've been sleeping so well these past few days 555. I really don't want to leave! I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong. I've already highly recommended it to all my friends! (￣∇￣)
