3-Star Hotels in North Sumatra, Indonesia

A dated, but generally nice hotel. Unfortunately, the cleanliness leaves something to be desired, and details and amenities are lacking. However, the accommodation, with its beautiful view, is perfect for Instagram posts. The location is quiet and quite remote. The service is very friendly and attentive, although communication in English was a bit sluggish at times. Overall, a good stay, but the price is too high.

The moment I opened the room door, I was immediately impressed! The bed was clean, thick, and came with soft, plush pillows – it felt amazing to just collapse onto it after a long journey. The large window, with its pristine white curtains and sheers, framed a charming armchair and coffee table set in the corner of the room. I left the curtains open all night, allowing for a clear city view. The service was incredibly prompt, and the staff were very responsive and efficient. My request for an extra pillow, due to my back pain, was immediately fulfilled. What I had anticipated from an Aston group hotel, and indeed, what I found at Harper Hotel Wahid Hasyim by Aston, was a diverse and delicious breakfast spread. While perhaps not as extensive as some larger Aston hotels, for a hotel of its class, HARPER HOTEL BY ASTON IS THE BEST!! The hospitality of every hotel employee was also incredibly satisfying! Friendly, full of smiles, and helpful! It's absolutely great! As a tour operator, I highly recommend this hotel.

Affordable basic room but clean enough ( some ants though). Location is central within 20min walking radius of major malls ( Plaza Medan Fair/Sun/Cambridge), Damri airport bus ( in front of Plaza Medan Fair), family massage/reflexology outlets (Jl.Orion), and the popular medan cakes outlets eg ”bika ambon” (Zulaikha)/”bolu” (Meranti). Car park is available with security. However, the complimentary breakfast is only set without selection option.

Don’t judge the hotel based on how it looks from outside as it might look like a run down building! The room is good, you get what you pay. Breakfast is good, local indonesian breakfast. The best part about this hotel is the staff. They might not be a 5 star hotel (I think) but the hospitality is 5 star! (From the staffs in the entrance area, to the reception counter, restaurants to the cleaning staff!) Kudos to the whole team! The location outside the hotel might be a bit creepy after 10pm to walk around because it’s dark. But don’t worry there’s always at least 2 staffs at the door and if you’re taking e-hailing service you’ll be fine, just don’t walk outside alone.

Overall, Ibis Styles Medan Pattimura offers an above-average stay and is a reasonably good choice for business travelers. One of the hotel's strongest points is its staff, who are consistently friendly, courteous, and attentive. Their professionalism and willingness to assist guests contribute positively to the overall experience. However, the hotel's location is not particularly strategic, making it less convenient for accessing some of the city's main attractions and shopping areas. In addition, the facilities and in-room amenities appear somewhat dated and would benefit from renovation and modernization. The breakfast selection is also rather limited and lacks variety, especially for guests staying multiple days. In conclusion, the hotel provides acceptable comfort and service for business trips, but it may not be the most suitable option for travelers seeking a relaxing holiday or leisure-focused stay. It serves its purpose well for short work-related visits, but there is room for improvement in terms of facilities, location, and dining options.

The hotel is old, things are run down there’s free Wi-Fi, but I never see it working breakfast. Caters only locals almost nothing available for Westerners overall it’s not a bad stay, but for my next trip, this would not be my first choice. If I have to I will stay again. Also, there are cheaper options about the same quality. The hotel stuff is nice though helpful

The hotel is located in front of Lake Toba, offering a very beautiful scenic view. The breakfast provided a wide variety of food, and the room was spacious. I ll stay here again.

I recently stayed at the Samosir Cottage on Samosir Island from November 29 to December 1, 2024. The room was spacious, a significant plus. However, the toilet area required attention, with ants present, as mentioned in previous reviews. While this was acceptable for me, it's an area for improvement. What truly impressed me was the exceptional service from the receptionist. They clearly explained options and kindly upgraded us to a bigger room. Their helpfulness and professionalism made a significant difference in our stay. We booked two deluxe rooms, but the first room had a smoke smell, prompting us to request a change or upgrade. Overall, while there's room for improvement in bathroom maintenance and mattress covers, the Samosir Cottage's spacious rooms and excellent service make it a solid choice for those visiting Samosir Island. The Pariban Hotel was very nice, clean, large room but it really needed a small fridge to keep drinks cold and a couch or lounge to sit on. The shower holder was broken so we had to hold the shower to have one which meant showering with 1 hand, there was also never hot water in the mornings for some reason. The food in the restaurant was excellent though. The views were amazing. It was always really noisy with children screaming from morning till late at night. A noise curfew at a certain time would be great. Also they don't cater to international tourists, only local, so there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. The staff were wonderful and extremely helpful people.

The hotel is located strategic near to Kualanamu Airport. Transit stay is conveniently. Hotel provide free transport to airport follow hotel schedule. Breakfast is just simple fry rice, fry noddles, bread, fruits and coffee, tea. For a quick munch, it is fair. If not next to it is nice Cafe.
