"The entrance is right in front of Gora Station, so transportation wouldn't be an issue. Plenty of shops and places to eat around the station, but they close pretty early. The front desk staff can speak English and explained everything clearly, from the type of onsen, the bathing hours, meals, and how to get to our rooms (it was in a separate building). The onsen are great, the outdoor private bathtub is great, but the water cools off pretty quickly in winter. The room is very spacious and they also provide an extra futon. I could do a bit of work comfortably in the rooms while resting. They have a bunch of amenities at the lobby, you could make tea, coffee, get some ice cream and bring them to your rooms. The breakfast and dinner were very delicious. You need reservations for meals since the seats are limited."

"The hotel has a lovely little garden that's beautiful both day and night. The dinner buffet was excellent, with a wide variety of dishes, including seafood, crawfish, and king crab – much better than breakfast. On the first floor, there's free ice cream; just ask the front desk for tokens. There's a good selection, and it's delicious. The chocolate cones were especially crispy."

"The hotel room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Both breakfast and dinner were incredibly delicious, even better than most 'one-night, two-meals' packages I've had in Japan. While the public bath isn't huge, it's rarely crowded, so you can often have it all to yourself. The private open-air bath on the rooftop is also definitely worth trying!"

"Having visited Japan over ten times, this hotel was a huge disappointment 😞😞 **Service was completely subpar:** Throughout our stay, we encountered numerous service issues. For example, my passport was photocopied multiple times, and water wasn't proactively offered during meals. The most outrageous incident happened when we were about two kilometers up a mountain near the hotel. It was already dark, and the path back was a difficult winding trail. Feeling unsafe, we asked if the hotel could help call a taxi or provide a shuttle. They flat-out told us, ”We don't handle that; you can ask a roadside restaurant for help...” (The manager offered a verbal apology the next day 🙄). **Facilities:** The rooms are a bit old and maintenance is average, but they were clean enough. **Food:** If you stay for two consecutive days, the second day's breakfast and dinner are quite good. The first day's was not so great. **Onsen (Hot Springs):** All the hot springs are indoors; there's no real outdoor open-air bath. All the springs are quite small, but private baths are available at no extra charge. **Positives:** There are some complimentary beverages, Haagen-Dazs ice cream in the afternoon, and a selection of yukata (bathrobes) in different colors. Overall, it definitely doesn't justify the 6,000 yen per night price tag 😑"

"The hotel's location is a bit out of the way, right near a highway exit, but there's a huge outlet mall nearby, and I had a very fruitful shopping trip there 😄. The hotel's cleanliness and service were quite good; it's been open for over 10 years, but it still feels as new as ever. What's especially worth mentioning is that the hotel's dining service exceeded expectations, the teppanyaki was superb 👍. I was also lucky enough to see Mount Fuji 🗻 from the hotel!"

"🏔️✨【Hakone Indigo Hotel: A Dreamlike Mountain Retreat】 This was my first stay at Hakone Gōra Indigo, and I was truly rejuvenated by the ambiance. The hotel is nestled in a hot spring resort surrounded by mountains; opening the window reveals layers of greenery and distant clouds and mist, as beautiful as a painting. The room design is modern yet elegantly Japanese, and the open-air onsen was fantastic. The spring water was smooth and comforting, instantly washing away a day's fatigue. Breakfast was also incredibly impressive, using fresh local ingredients; you could feel the attention to detail even in the bread and juice. The staff were friendly and attentive, with every greeting feeling warm, making you feel right at home. The overall experience exceeded expectations, and it's worth revisiting, whether you're a couple, a family, or a solo traveler. 💛 The only thing worth mentioning is that the in-room onsen water seemed to be completely diluted; you could even call it a 'fake' onsen. It lacked the typical onsen smell and was essentially just hot water."

"First, a heads-up to anyone visiting this hotel: it's located in the Hakone mountains. If you're not driving, please, please be very careful not to get off the train in the wrong direction! We came down from Owakudani by train and got off at Naka-Gora. Both train doors opened when it arrived, and we exited through the left door. Little did we know, we were in for a world of trouble – I won't go into the dramatic details. After quite an adventure, we finally reached the hotel only to find out that if we had exited from the right side, it would have been just a few minutes' walk away. So, a word of caution: if you're coming down by train from the Owakudani direction, always exit on the right side! This was the most expensive hotel we booked during our trip to Japan. There were almost no shops nearby. We had pre-ordered dinner, which was a bit like sukiyaki. The hotel prepared all the washed ingredients and utensils for us. After dinner, we cleaned everything and placed it in a large basket, which we left outside our room door the next morning. Dinner was pretty good! However, to buy breakfast for the next day, we spent over half an hour walking up and down hills just to find a convenience store. I regretted not having bought breakfast in Hakone beforehand. The hot springs are separate for men and women. It gets dark early in the evening, so we couldn't see the scenery outside the onsen. The next morning, we saw the green landscape outside the window. The Japanese-style tatami room could accommodate six people and even had a kitchen. It was very spacious for the three of us. The hallway of our room offered beautiful mountain views, perfect for watching the sunrise. The view from inside the room was also very nice. The hotel is close to Gora Park, about a ten-minute walk, and not far from the Hakone Museum of Art."

"Hakone Hotel Kowakien, a natural onsen hotel offering dinner and breakfast that I'd rate 90 out of 100. It's not easy to impress me in Hakone, the famed hot spring town in Kanagawa Prefecture, but this hotel truly excelled across all criteria, showing a consistently high standard. Both the front desk and restaurant staff were attractive, with fluent English and standard accents; notably, they didn't employ any Southeast Asian staff. The hotel facilities are relatively new and well-designed, and the cleanliness is exceptional. The public areas offer plenty of sofa seating, and the temperature control is precise, allowing guests to comfortably wander around in traditional yukata without feeling cold. The air is fresh with no strong artificial scents, embodying a 'Natural and Pure' concept. The restaurant, named Fontainebleau, lives up to its name with authentic French pastries. The 'all-you-can-eat' style still maintains high-quality ingredients, and there's an unlimited supply of Sapporo Asahi draft beer and Gekkeikan sake. What's more, the self-service alcohol bar is also open during breakfast, which seems quite common for Japanese guests – their physical resilience certainly differs from ours! Observing Japanese dining concepts, you'll notice several characteristics: a wide variety of dishes, comprehensive nutrition, low-temperature preservation, minimal oil and seasoning, and avoiding high-temperature cooking to prevent nutrient loss. The sauna is also quite professional, featuring a 12-minute sand timer, anti-scald mats, humidity and temperature displays, and powerful heating elements that ensure you won't waste any time. "My first experience at a ryokan. A wonderful place. The staff provides the highest level of service. Beautiful rooms. The hotel is a very pleasant place to stay. The rooms are very spacious and beautifully designed. The public onsen is absolutely beautiful. It was a beautiful night, and I just listened to the wind and counted the stars while there. Wonderful kaiseki dinner and breakfast. Comfortable shuttles to and from the hotel. Seclusion and privacy—that's what you'll get there, whether you're alone or with someone. I've been to Ryori-yaku in Izu before, and compared to that, this one probably suits my taste better. It's not as sweet, so the food is refreshing and not cloying. The only downside is that the rooms are really small—every inch of space is precious!

2210963****I was pleasantly surprised!!! If you're looking for a truly authentic Japanese onsen resort experience, this is the perfect choice. First, the hotel is brand new, clean, and quiet, with a fresh Japanese-style decor. Every detail feels meticulously crafted. The moment I soaked in the hot springs, I felt Hakone truly was beautiful! Second, I've seen previous reviews mention transportation being inconvenient, but that's not the case! Most travel guides recommend buying the Hakone Two-Day Public Transport Pass for 5,000 yen per person, which grants unlimited use of eight public transportation options in Hakone. We followed a map and traveled from Hakone-Yumoto all the way to Touendai. From Touendai Platform 1, we took a 10-minute bus ride to Daigatake and arrived right there. It was incredibly convenient. Finally, we took the Odakyu Rapid Train from the station in front of the hotel to Gotemba. I recommend checking the train schedule the day before; it usually runs only once an hour. The trip takes about 40 minutes. You can use the public transport pass to get there for free. I highly recommend this hotel! P.S. There is a luggage delivery service at Hakone-Yumoto Station. Small items are 1,000 yen per piece and can be delivered directly to designated hotels within the Hakone area. This service is excellent.

WWushuang07This hotel offers beautiful scenery and a tranquil environment, a true oasis amidst the bustling city. While transportation isn't the most convenient, the hotel service is excellent. Typically, Hakone hotels provide shuttle service from Hakone-Yumoto Station, but the Prince Hotel also offers pickup from Odawara Station. The hotel runs a shuttle to Hakone's main bus hub, and there's a bus stop right outside, though both have limited operating hours. It's best suited for guests who don't mind walking. It's a half-hour walk from the hotel to the famous Hakone floating torii gate, and another 7-8 minutes from there to the bus stop for ascending Hakone and the cruise ship pier. The scenery along the way is stunning, with lush green mountains, sparkling water, and fresh air.

WWuyuehaixiangwaneryaThis hotel far exceeded our expectations! It was unanimously praised by my travel companions during this trip. It just goes to show that you get what you pay for. It's only about 100-200 meters from Gora Station for the Hakone Tozan Railway, and there's a bus stop right outside the hotel that goes to Gotemba Premium Outlets. This made transferring transportation so easy, without having to drag our luggage too far, and it was punctual and convenient. Everyone, when you get to Hakone-Yumoto Station, remember to absolutely send your luggage ahead at the station. It's only 1000 yen per person for large luggage. We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon, and our bags were already in our room. This service is incredibly thoughtful and human-centric. The nearby gyoza restaurant was quite good. If you haven't booked dinner, you can give it a try. I highly recommend the kimchi gyoza soup. Breakfast was a standard buffet, with both Japanese and Western options, and a good variety to choose from. The private onsen required a wait, so we only experienced the public bath. Perhaps because it was a weekday evening, there was no one else there, so it practically felt like we had the place to ourselves.

CCerellaWhen checking in, the hotel will explain the tourist route of Hakone. It's a no-brainer to check in and just follow the map provided by the hotel. The service exceeded my expectations. I felt like a princess returning home during my stay. I thought this was the standard Japanese service. But later I stayed in other hotels and found that the service of Gora Kadan is far better than other hotels of the same price. The room is a bit old and the shower is also very old, but it is cleaned quite well.

We were prepared a traditional dinner, which was served in our room. It was very tasty and varied! The hotel has 3 onsen: 2 - private, 1 - public. We visited only the private ones (you need to book a time in advance at the reception upon check-in, the visit time is 30 minutes). It was wonderful! The hotel also provides a transfer from and to the nearest train stations. The rooms are clean, cozy, we slept on tatami under soft blankets. The hotel has a relax room. With massage chairs and a very quiet atmosphere. We stayed in this room after visiting the onsen and got great relaxation. And you are also given national clothes for rest and sleep. It is very beautiful and cute. Breakfasts were also in kaiseki style - varied and unusual. The hotel staff is very kind and friendly. this hotel allows tattoo baths. great experience, thank you very much! want to come back again!

JJinRongThe hotel's location is excellent!👍 Coming from Tokyo, we took the Odakyu Line OH01 (starting station) from Shinjuku West Exit to Odawara Station OH47. From there, we just walked across the platform to transfer to the Hakone Tozan Railway to Hakone-Yumoto Station OH51. After exiting the station, we crossed the pedestrian bridge, took the elevator down to the river, and walked across the red bridge, and there was the hotel. The path is very flat, perfect for those traveling with luggage. Since we only booked our Hakone stay two days in advance, there were no connecting rooms available. We stayed in a standard room the first night and then moved to a Japanese-style room the second day, which had a great view. The hotel breakfast included natto, and the rest was pretty standard. If you go early, it's less crowded, but after 8 AM, you'll likely have to queue for a table. You can also take a public bus from the hotel to Togendai or Gotemba, but buses are less frequent after 9:30 AM, so it's advisable to leave early. All in all, while the hotel was a bit pricey, its convenient location and multiple transportation options made it worthwhile.

TThe Lost Forest MumWe visited Hakone Kuori-tei (仙石原久の葉 / Sengokuhara Hisanoha) on 19 November 2025 and stayed for 2 nights while exploring Hakone. Located in the peaceful Sengokuhara area, the ryokan offers a quiet and relaxing escape surrounded by nature. With only 8 rooms, the ryokan feels private, cosy, and calm. We stayed on the 2nd floor in Room 205, which had good space to comfortably accommodate 2 adults with 24-inch luggage. Every morning, we enjoyed a beautiful shimmering view of the autumn leaves, glowing under the morning sunlight — a perfect start to the day. Do note that the 2nd floor has no lift, only staircases. However, the staff were very helpful and assisted with carrying our luggage, which we truly appreciated. Our room had a simple bathroom without a shower, but the ryokan’s onsen on Level -1 was clean, soothing, and perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. Breakfast and dinner were included, and dinner offered a choice of shabu-shabu or sukiyaki. We tried both and loved them — tender meat, fresh vegetables, and delicious, comforting flavours. One of the most special highlights is the free-flow drink station with: • ☕ Coffee • 🍺 Craft beer • 🍶 Sake • 🥃 Highball • 🍷 Umeshu（梅酒） • 🧃 Orange & apple juices • 🥤 Soft drinks Guests can bring drinks back to their room, making evenings extra cosy. Parking is designated for ryokan guests, and there are plenty of parking spaces, making arrival and departure smooth. The staff were warm, polite, and attentive — adding to the peaceful atmosphere of the entire stay.

GGuest UserThe location of this hotel is amazing! ! It is especially suitable for people who want to go on vacation. It may not be as convenient as Gora to travel, but the hotel actually has a shuttle bus to Togendai Station (a shared station for the cable car and the pirate ship) in the morning and a bus back from the Prince Hotel at Lake Ashi in the afternoon (reservations are required in advance with the front desk). It is suitable for tourists who want to take the Hakone tourist route. The general route is: take a bus to Togendai Station in the morning, take the cable car to see Owakudani, go to Sounzan Station (Hakone cu-mo), then take the mountain train to Gora, or even Hakone Yumoto, and then return to Togendai in the same way to take the pirate ship. After the pirate ship comes out of Moto-Hakone Port, there is a shuttle bus to the Prince Hotel at Lake Ashi, and you can take the shuttle bus back to the hotel from there (you can communicate with the front desk for details, and the front desk is very polite and patient). In addition, the hotel also has a shuttle bus that can take guests to the nearest bus stop (Sengoku Kogen Station) at any time. In terms of the room, from the Tokyo Hotel to this one, the room is really much bigger, and it faces the golf course, there are mountains in the distance, and it also encountered a snowy day, which is very beautiful! The view of the hotel restaurant is also beautiful (p9). Dinner is a semi-buffet with a Japanese style. Since there is nothing to eat around, it is still recommended. The breakfast is also very good~ The hotel provides English and Japanese services. Most of the front desk staff speak English well. Some elderly people will use their iPads to communicate with Chinese manual translators when they find that they can't understand (this surprised me, it feels so rich). There is no barrier to communication if you don't speak Japanese. The hotel restaurant also has ********* waitresses who can communicate in Chinese~ The hot spring is very good! The hotel sign says ”Laboko Hot Spring”, but it's a pity that the outdoor hot spring was under renovation when I went there this time, so there was only an indoor one, but it was also very comfortable~ and There is a small hill at the Sengoku Plateau bus station (it's called something like grassland). The view after climbing up is also amazing! (p10, 11) I will probably stay here again when I come to Hakone in the future! I like this hotel very much~ btw their Prince Hotel in Lake Ashi is right next to the lake, and there is a bus to Ryugu Palace, which looks very good!

AAnonymous UserWe booked a hot spring hotel on short notice and were very satisfied with it. We arrived early and could not check in until after 3:30 pm, but fortunately we could leave our luggage at the hotel. The staff helped us make the bed when we were having dinner in the evening. There was a rich variety of dinner, but we didn’t really like the side dishes. It would have been better if the side dishes were replaced with sashimi. We even had a surprise dessert after the meal, which made us very happy. The breakfast the next day was also very filling and delicious. The experience is very good and recommended for staying.
