Amazing
11360173****Ryori-yaku (restaurant name), the hot springs in Hakone are unparalleled, but the food here really deserves mention. I've been to Ryori-yaku in Izu before, and compared to that, this one probably suits my taste better. It's not as sweet, so the food is refreshing and not cloying. The only downside is that the rooms are really small—every inch of space is precious!
RRuru CHIENThis is a very spacious onsen ryokan with a kids' book corner and a manga nook. The private onsen baths are free of charge, making it perfect for family trips, though they are quite popular and require a queue. There are complimentary afternoon refreshments and late-night snacks. The courtyard features a bonfire and foot bath. From check-in in the afternoon, there are always facilities to use, and it never feels too crowded, even on weekends, as the space is very well-arranged and comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located right next to Gora Station, making it easy to get around by bus or train. The staff are very friendly, and snacks are constantly replenished, so you don't have to worry about missing out if you arrive late. After a hot spring bath, there's milk and popsicles available. The 24-hour self-service beverage bar also has hot water and hot tea, so those who prefer warm water are covered. The only downside is the lack of a full-length mirror in the room, which is a bit of a pity.
GGuest UserWe visited for my mother's birthday celebration. The staff were very attentive and wonderful. The food was also delicious, and we were thoroughly satisfied. My mother was very happy, which made it a great experience.

AANASTASIIA_BERDNIKOVAThis hotel is a paradise in the mountains of Hakone! Traditional style of the rooms - it feels like you are living in a Japanese family. We were prepared a traditional dinner, which was served in our room. It was very tasty and varied! The hotel has 3 onsen: 2 - private, 1 - public. We visited only the private ones (you need to book a time in advance at the reception upon check-in, the visit time is 30 minutes). It was wonderful! The hotel also provides a transfer from and to the nearest train stations. The rooms are clean, cozy, we slept on tatami under soft blankets. The hotel has a relax room. With massage chairs and a very quiet atmosphere. We stayed in this room after visiting the onsen and got great relaxation. And you are also given national clothes for rest and sleep. It is very beautiful and cute. Breakfasts were also in kaiseki style - varied and unusual. The hotel staff is very kind and friendly. this hotel allows tattoo baths. great experience, thank you very much! want to come back again!
GGuest UserThis was the best hotel I stayed at during my Chinese New Year trip to Japan, though it was also the most expensive. The hotel is right by the Hakone-Yumoto station exit, just across the little red bridge, which is incredibly convenient for families with luggage or young children.
The hotel itself is comparable to a 4- to 5-star hotel in China. Both the service and facilities were excellent. They offer both private and public onsen baths. The private bath costs 2000 yen for 45 minutes, while the public one is free.
We opted for the private bath. We arrived at the hotel at noon, dropped off our luggage, booked our private bath slot, and then went out to explore. The hotel even separates luggage storage for check-in and check-out, which is a nice touch.
In the afternoon, you can explore the street in front of Hakone-Yumoto station, check out transportation options for the next day, and enjoy some local food. Of course, if you're short on time, you can also just drop your bags and hop on a train to start your journey.
The room was also very spacious. We booked a triple room, and it was the biggest room I've stayed in during all my trips to Japan over the past few years.
I must particularly mention that on our first afternoon, someone in our group was feeling unwell with a headache and vomiting. We approached the front desk before 2 PM, hoping to check in early and let them rest. The front desk staff were incredibly enthusiastic and processed our early check-in immediately.
Another thing that happened was I realized I'd lost my wireless Bluetooth earphones after returning to Tokyo, and I suspected they might have been left at the hotel. Since I didn't have a phone number, I contacted the hotel via email. The very next day, hotel customer service replied. They not only looked for them in our room but also searched in the hotel's public areas. Although they weren't found, I was still very satisfied with the service of the Japanese hotel staff.
I would definitely choose this hotel again for my next trip to Hakone. Also, a tip for everyone: this area perfectly combines liveliness and tranquility. Other places, in my opinion, are either too far (requiring long train rides) or too desolate.

TThe Lost Forest MumWe visited Hakone Kuori-tei (仙石原久の葉 / Sengokuhara Hisanoha) on 19 November 2025 and stayed for 2 nights while exploring Hakone. Located in the peaceful Sengokuhara area, the ryokan offers a quiet and relaxing escape surrounded by nature.
With only 8 rooms, the ryokan feels private, cosy, and calm. We stayed on the 2nd floor in Room 205, which had good space to comfortably accommodate 2 adults with 24-inch luggage. Every morning, we enjoyed a beautiful shimmering view of the autumn leaves, glowing under the morning sunlight — a perfect start to the day.
Do note that the 2nd floor has no lift, only staircases. However, the staff were very helpful and assisted with carrying our luggage, which we truly appreciated.
Our room had a simple bathroom without a shower, but the ryokan’s onsen on Level -1 was clean, soothing, and perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.
Breakfast and dinner were included, and dinner offered a choice of shabu-shabu or sukiyaki. We tried both and loved them — tender meat, fresh vegetables, and delicious, comforting flavours.
One of the most special highlights is the free-flow drink station with:
• ☕ Coffee
• 🍺 Craft beer
• 🍶 Sake
• 🥃 Highball
• 🍷 Umeshu(梅酒)
• 🧃 Orange & apple juices
• 🥤 Soft drinks
Guests can bring drinks back to their room, making evenings extra cosy.
Parking is designated for ryokan guests, and there are plenty of parking spaces, making arrival and departure smooth.
The staff were warm, polite, and attentive — adding to the peaceful atmosphere of the entire stay.

GGuest UserYama No Chaya has its own beauty and serenity. I personally don’t find it hard to locate - 2 bus stops away from Hakone Yumoto station + a 5 minutes walk are worth the stay. (Bus service stopped for one of the days due to bad weather and we walked for 20 minutes to Hakone Yumoto Station - all good)
The team is very hospitable - they also have some English and Chinese speaking staff otherwise simple English is not an issue to communicate. Our butler - Sandip always carry a smile with him, and he ensured we are very well taken care of. Every morning, the team will prepare heat pack and umbrellas for us (it was raining and snowing). In the evening, they made tea and prepared snacks (vary from mochi to sushi) for us upon our returned.
The room we booked is Yamano Ichigo (main wing) - just nice for 2. The viewing platform was where we relaxed every evening and we soaked our tiredness away in our very own private onsen at the basement. Despite of having our own private onsen, I still went to visit 3 other public onsen within the Ryokan - you will not be disappointed.
Our room came with daily breakfast and we added on dinner for 1 night. I must say the chef and culinary team put in their passion and effort to prepare all the dishes. It’s not common for a visitor like me to taste Kaisekai cuisine which I enjoyed very much. You need to take time and an empty stomach to full experience it :) However, my partner and I weren’t used to heavy breakfast and our butler noticed it - we get to change to western style for the rest of the stay which was equally delicious. We are thankful that we minimised food wastage.
Overall, we felt pampered during our stay at Yama no Chaya :) I will return again in the future when I visit Hakone.

GGuest UserVery nice (and spacious - by tokyo standards) hotel!! We had a balcony view of the mountain and the golf course. I didn't read the description and was pleasantly surprised that there was an onsen (must pay 150 yen usage fee per person). It was a really nice onsen too. It was raining the day that we got there and it made the outdoor onsen just magical with the rain in the backdrop. However, they do not allow tattooed guests into the onsen so foreigners, please be aware. The room was nice and gave old timey feels. I appreciated the big, long couch too. One drawback was that there was no microwave in the whole building :( But overall, would come back. It's a 10 minute walk from the T Tozan bus (so you can get there pretty quickly from the Togendai bus/ropeway station. The Lawson is right there next to the bus stop too (we got to go while the Evangelion collab was going on). The hotel has a free shuttle bus to various locations too so I would inquire about those upon check-in since those have to be booked the day before, but if you have the Hakone free pass and don't mind walking, it's pretty accessible via the Tozan bus lines

GGuest UserWe only stayed for one night. This hotel is also used as a 1-day onsen for public so it was quite busy with a lot of people in the public areas and at the onsens. The room was slightly smaller than expected. The buffet breakfast and dinner were ok but nothing spectacular. The area outside the hotel was very picturesque though, and it's only a 10-15 min walk to the nearest station and you will pass all the souvenir shops and little eateries on the way so it's quite nice.

Very Good
GGuest UserTake the Shinkansen from Osaka to Odawara, then transfer to the tram to Hakone Yumoto, and then take a bus to Gora. Two people dragged their suitcases and walked uphill for 15 minutes. They were exhausted. When they arrived at the hotel, they found that they could wait for the train in Gora, and it only took 5 minutes to walk. The hotel facilities are not new, and there are not many guests, mostly Japanese tourists. The hot spring is relatively small, and the water temperature is very high. You have to come out to breathe after soaking for a while. I experienced the private bath and open-air hot spring, and there were a lot of mosquitoes. The food is OK, worthy of the price.
