AAganzhongjiezheThis guesthouse is incredibly charming and artistic, it feels like being in Sanya or Chengdu! It has a terrace, a small courtyard, three floors above ground and one basement floor. The rooms are spotless, and the bathrooms are very modern, with heated toilets, sensor lights, automatic curtains, and more. Considering all these amenities, the price is an absolute steal! There's even an elevator inside. The owner is lovely and even personally cooks breakfast, making the whole experience feel very homely and warm. If I hadn't been in such a rush, I would have loved to stay a few more days. The location is perfect, you can see the ancient city right from the entrance. Five-star recommendation!

KKatrin SauthoffMy husband and I are a couple from Germany. We booked two nights there, and our decision was absolutely the right one. From the initial contact (via the WeChat app, which is essential for your entire trip to China) to our departure, everything was perfect. We were picked up from the train station by car and taken to the hotel free of charge. This is especially good for Western tourists who don't speak Chinese. The first problem would have been explaining to the taxi where we wanted to go. The lobby and rooms are very beautiful, stylish, and equipped with the highest technology. Most of the guest rooms face the inner courtyard, so you can sleep very quietly and comfortably. The beds are very large and comfortable. The hotel's location is excellent. It's located on the northern edge of the Ancient City of Datong, just a few minutes' walk from the tourist attractions and the colorful and lively old town. So you can enjoy it without being disturbed by noise. I would especially like to emphasize the friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, we don't speak Chinese, and the staff didn't speak English, but with the help of modern communication tools (language apps), we understood each other perfectly. Every request was fulfilled. There's even the option to use a washing machine in the basement of the hotel. This is especially fantastic for tourists on longer trips to China, as it allows for easy laundry. If you ever come back to China, we will definitely book this hotel again.

1118942****On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me. Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄 This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

GGuest UserDuring my 5-week trip back to China, I visited Shenzhen, Kunming, Xishuangbanna, Xi'an, Datong, and Beijing. I initially planned for three days in Datong but extended it to five because Xijing Courtyard was just too comfortable to leave! This courtyard hotel is exquisitely decorated with impeccable taste, and the staff are warm and attentive. The cold side dishes and stir-fried vegetarian dishes at breakfast were exceptional; I later found out from the front desk that a professional chef prepares the breakfast. Without a doubt, Xijing Courtyard was our favorite hotel on this trip!

GGuest UserFacilities: The hotel appears to be newly renovated, with a style suitable for young people, and features smart home technology throughout. However, the shower water was quite cold, probably because I showered very late the first night, and I finished shivering. Cleanliness: The rooms and public areas were very clean and tidy, and the room cleaning was excellent. Environment: The hotel is located in Southeast Yi, surrounded by a vibrant cultural and creative atmosphere. Service: Before check-in, a group chat was created to inquire about pick-up services. The hotel staff were very warm and polite, greeting guests warmly upon arrival. Daily services included evening sweet soup and afternoon tea, and the breakfast was plentiful and nutritious. Also, when booking, I was a Ctrip Gold Diamond member and saw that I had Executive Lounge privileges. However, during check-in, they didn't proactively explain how to use these privileges, only mentioning a discount for hotel guests in the evenings. I'm unsure if this is the same thing. However, the only downside was that on the day of my final check-out, my hair was completely covered in black dye from a photoshoot in the ancient city that morning, making it impossible to continue my activities. I was hoping to wash my hair after the shoot, but I was in a rush to get back. I asked the staff if I could delay my check-out, but they said the latest I could do was 12:30. I rushed back, packed my bags, and checked out. Then, around 2:40 PM, Ctrip called to ask if I had checked out. I don't know where things went wrong, but they wouldn't give me any leeway when I was negotiating the delayed check-out. They even asked if I had checked out while I was on the high-speed train! Is it possible that the check-out time is negotiable? When I left, I pushed my large suitcase to the luggage area myself. On the way to the parking lot, I saw the hotel's electric scooter picking up two guests. No staff asked if I needed the scooter to be taken to the parking lot during check-out. I read in the reviews that other guests received a welcome gift, but aside from the bookmarks, steam eye masks, and a few other items in the room, I didn't receive the same treatment as others mentioned. I wonder why? Was it because the delayed check-out incident was unpleasant? Overall, this was one of the less pleasant stays I've had in recent years.

FFeifeiFShortly after booking the hotel, I was added to a concierge service group, and they contacted us in advance. The hotel is located within the ancient city, just a 2-minute walk from the Dongnanyi business district. Huayan Temple and Daiwang Mansion are also nearby, making it incredibly convenient for getting around! The hotel's style is perfect for photos, and the bedding is clean and high-quality, which is great for someone as particular as me. The hotel has its own Yungang Art Museum for guests to visit, and every staff member, from the front desk to the back office, was polite and courteous. In the afternoon, they provided tea, snacks, and dried fruits, and for late-night returns, there was a sweet pear soup – every detail was meticulously thought out. Breakfast offered a wide variety of dishes, including salmon, steak, and sliced noodles. During the May Day holiday, there were Guzheng performances and fire pot shows in the evening. It was a very pleasant stay!

GGuest UserI was greeted with a fruit platter during check-in, which was a wonderful welcome gesture considering I left my home about 24 hours earlier, traveling non-stop from California to Datong, China. The Inn provides a wonderful experience for the first-time foreign visitor. The interior decor has that Chinese charm consisting of artwork, a book display, an aquarium with an auspicious collection of 8 large fishes (carp, I think), in-room tea set with an on-table electric stove, which would be unique to most Westerners. The glass flooring adds an extraordinary appeal since I have never experienced that in a hotel before, and I have traveled to dozens of countries. The Inn is well located, a short bus ride to Datong Railway Station (for non-high-speed rail travel)*, and a short taxi ride to Datong South Railway Station (for high-speed rail travel)**. It is just next to Datong City Wall. You can walk along the top of the City Wall at no cost. A 10-20 minute walk takes you to nearly all the attractions within the ancient City Wall. Here you will also find a variety of restaurants serving local food as well as souvenir shops. There is also a small shop that sells sundry items including drinks (beer included) within a 5-minute walk from the Inn. Across from this sundry shop, is a shop that specializes in ancient Chinese clothing (Hanfu dress). They can dress you up, cosmetics included. The Inn provides directions to Yujian Yun Gang - a popular destination for travelers to Datong. Here you will see ancient Buddhist cave art, including large and tall (several stories tall) sculptures. It takes two bus rides to get there, 1RMB per ride. My booking choice was for either a guest room on the 1st or 2nd floor but was assigned a wonderful 2nd-floor guest room. The owners of the Inn were exceptionally friendly. I met both the mother and her daughter. My room was professionally cleaned and provided with drinking bottled water daily. If I return to Datong in the future, I will certainly book a room at this Inn. *I took a train from this station to travel south to Xinzhou after checking out. **I arrived in Datong from Beijing Daxing International Airport

GGuest UserStaying at Ruifeng Tower was definitely the best decision for our Datong trip! The hotel is located right in the heart of the ancient city, within walking distance of attractions like Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, making it super convenient. The rooms have an antique charm, and when you open the window, you're greeted with the sight of traditional courtyards and intricate eaves. What truly delighted me were the books in the room. Reading them before bed, the glory of Pingcheng during the Northern Wei Dynasty and the prosperity of the Liao and Jin secondary capitals came alive on the pages, adding a wonderful cultural depth to our journey. The breakfast buffet was abundant, and the staff were warm and professional. Next time I'm in Datong, I'll definitely choose Ruifeng Tower again, to immerse myself in the unique charm of this ancient capital amidst its scholarly ambiance and historic beauty!

GGuest UserThe best choice for our Datong trip! Beiwai Courtyard perfectly blends a thousand years of culture, ancient architectural aesthetics, and modern comfort. The courtyard is elegant, the rooms are smart, the location is superb, the service is warm, and the breakfast is rich and delicious. There's also a super spacious 500m² public entertainment area. Every detail shows thoughtfulness. You can immerse yourself in Northern Wei history while enjoying a convenient stay. It's a must-stay cultural landmark when visiting Datong, and we'll definitely choose it again next time!

TTaniaThe hotel has very spacious and comfortable rooms. The breakfast is only Chinese, but rich and plentiful. We can't comment on the location because we always took taxis to the attractions around Datong (the wooden pagoda, hanging monasteries, and the Yungang Grottoes), but right next to the hotel are plenty of restaurants and places to grab a quick bite. The staff seemed helpful, but no one spoke English, so we had to use a translation app, which wasn't always accurate, and communication was somewhat hampered.
