GGuest UserMy stay at Boli Designer Homestay in Datong Ancient City completely redefined my expectations for high-end guesthouses, offering an immersive slow-paced experience within the ancient city. The guesthouse is nestled in a tranquil alley on Guangfujiao Street. With its grey brick walls and natural wood doors and windows, stepping inside immediately transports you away from the hustle and bustle of the city outside. The wabi-sabi garden design is particularly striking, with dry landscape features dotted along the gravel paths. In the afternoon, sunlight streams through the eaves, creating elegant patterns of light and shadow. Every detail in the room showed thoughtful consideration. The minimalist soft furnishings were both luxurious and comfortable, and the bedding was soft and gentle on the skin, allowing me to shed my travel fatigue the moment I lay down. The high-quality toiletries on the vanity were on par with those found in five-star hotels. Even the hairdryer's power and noise control were just right, ensuring a peaceful rest. What truly impressed me was the guesthouse's service. The 24-hour butler was always on call, yet maintained a perfect sense of distance. Upon arrival, they proactively helped with luggage and offered tips for exploring the ancient city. They even arranged complimentary pick-up and drop-off services from the station, saving me the hassle of lugging suitcases around. The evening nightcap and hot soup were delightful surprises; on a chilly ancient city night, sipping warm soup instantly banished the cold. Breakfast was another highlight. The sea cucumber and millet porridge was rich and savory, and the handmade shaomai had thin wrappers and generous fillings, offering an authentic taste of Datong. Paired with refreshing side dishes and freshly ground soy milk, it was the perfect start to an energetic day. The guesthouse's location is also superb. Within a few minutes' walk, you can reach key attractions like Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, eliminating the need for crowded transportation and allowing for a leisurely and enjoyable exploration of the ancient city. Upon check-out, the butler even presented a thoughtfully prepared souvenir, a true testament to their sincerity. This stay was absolutely perfect. I've already recommended Boli Designer Homestay to all my friends planning to visit Datong, and I'll definitely choose it again on my next visit to the ancient city! A special thank you to Butler Qiqi, who was incredibly patient and provided excellent service.

__WeChat375008****This guesthouse is located right inside the ancient city, which is a great spot. It's really close to the city walls and Kuidxng Tower, and you can walk to Huayan Temple in about ten minutes – super convenient. They have underground parking with charging stations too. The decor is very tasteful, and since it gets quite dry in winter, every room has a humidifier. The pear soup at the front desk was especially delicious. The breakfast spread is quite good, all homemade by the hostess, especially the knife-cut noodles – they're just as good as any noodle shop outside, absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be back next year if I get the chance!

1118942****On this trip, after leaving my job, I've stayed in many places, but Datong was the most surprising city. It's full of historical sites, delicious food, and a vibrant, down-to-earth atmosphere. But what surprised me even more was the guesthouse I chose. I did extensive research and ultimately decided to stay within the ancient city, which turned out to be incredibly convenient for dining, lodging, and getting around. It was fantastic and perfectly suited me. Initially, I considered guesthouses in the Southeast District, but they were all new, and their styles were quite similar and unremarkable, much like guesthouses in other cities. So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄 This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

GGuest UserA small inn inside a new development within the old city, within a few minutes walk of the city wall, where you can climb up and walk the wall.    The hotel and surrounding development was created in the traditional style.     Clean, newly built , managed well, provided a good breakfast,  room furnishings were a higher quality than an average hotel.     Underground parking garage was convenient.     If I had to improve anything, I would find a way to turn off the bath area sink mirror night light.   It was distracting to try to sleep with the room bathed in bright blue light ( more like a studio, not a fully separate bathroom )... I ended up sticking a towel against it to block most of the light.

The service was exceptionally attentive; the snacks and fruits were all to our taste, and breakfast had everything you could ask for. They frequently offered proactive reminders about complimentary services, and the airport shuttle was a huge plus. The staff, both male and female, were efficient, responsive, and incredibly polite and thoughtful, which made our stay very comfortable. We were extremely satisfied with our choice of hotel this time.

The service is attentive, and the breakfast was the most satisfying part – a rich selection that included local specialties, Western dishes, Cantonese dim sum, and Chaoshan beef noodles. The downside is that the room is a bit small, and the bathroom faces the balcony. There are no chairs on the balcony, which makes the balcony space feel a bit awkward and wasted given the small room size. The hotel also seems to lack some experience in catering to families with children. Besides drawing, there aren't many other activities or equipment in the kids' activity room. During the Dragon Boat Festival, there was a craft activity, but no aprons were provided, and washable paints weren't used. This resulted in my child's favorite dress being ruined.

MMethilanI spent nearly a week at Datong Milan/Magnolia Hotel (Dai Residence branch) and it was a very pleasant and enjoyable stay Location: - Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring. - 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town - 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions - 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets. I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around. Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major. Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening. Room: The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift) Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set! Service: - Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate. - Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge. - I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me. - Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here - Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed. I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

TTaniaThe hotel has very spacious and comfortable rooms. The breakfast is only Chinese, but rich and plentiful. We can't comment on the location because we always took taxis to the attractions around Datong (the wooden pagoda, hanging monasteries, and the Yungang Grottoes), but right next to the hotel are plenty of restaurants and places to grab a quick bite. The staff seemed helpful, but no one spoke English, so we had to use a translation app, which wasn't always accurate, and communication was somewhat hampered.
