"Our stay at the Datong Yungang Hotel truly exceeded expectations! The hotel's overall decor is opulent and magnificent, grand yet tasteful. The room was exceptionally spacious, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering expansive views – cityscapes during the day and distant ancient city lights at night. It was a very comfortable stay.
Families with children needn't worry at all – the hotel is very kid-friendly, and the staff would proactively smile and greet our child. The swimming pool was clean and the water temperature was just right, though at 1.6 meters deep, it's more suitable for adults or teenagers who can swim. Little ones would need extra caution regarding safety.
The biggest surprise was that Fenglin Pavilion, a super famous local restaurant in Datong, is located right on the hotel's first floor! For dinner, we tried their signature Sweet and Sour Mandarin Fish (Songshu Guiyu). It was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with a perfect balance of sweet and sour. The sauce was glossy, and the presentation was exquisite – absolutely textbook quality. Our entire family raved about it!
Our room was spotlessly clean, and parking was incredibly convenient – the underground parking lot is huge, making self-driving trips stress-free. Plus, it's only about a 30-minute drive from the hotel to the Yungang Grottoes, so the location is quite ideal.
In summary, whether for a family trip, a holiday, or if you want to experience high-quality accommodation in Datong, this place is highly recommended! We will definitely choose this hotel again on our next visit to Datong!"

"This is a five-star hotel with a luxurious, old-school decor. The hotel service is absolutely impeccable; every single staff member was incredibly friendly and had an excellent attitude, making us feel right at home. We even happened to be staying during a political conference. The location is fantastic, very close to the high-speed train station and only about a kilometer from the ancient city. A special shout-out to the auntie at the fifth-floor spa; as a 'southern kid' experiencing a full body scrub for the first time, she was so gentle and kind throughout the entire process. Huge thanks to everyone at the hotel for giving us such a wonderfully pleasant experience! Wishing you all the very best!"

"The location is convenient, with easy access to transportation. There's a RT-Mart supermarket right outside, and it's not far from the ancient city and Yungang Grottoes. The room was clean and tidy, and the bedding was incredibly comfortable. The front desk service was warm and attentive. Early this morning, when I was checking out and had already walked to the hotel entrance, a receptionist chased after me and brought me two bottles of hot mineral water – so thoughtful!"

"If I were to rate the room alone, this guesthouse exceeded my expectations. Even though I booked a special offer room in the basement, there were absolutely no issues with ventilation or natural light. On the contrary, on a warm winter day, bathed in the soft glow of the lights, it felt like my own cozy little haven. If I visit again, I'd still choose this place. (The lady at the front desk was beautiful and kind-hearted, always willing to help and answered every question with a smile, which truly warmed my heart.)
Now for the downsides: breakfast was served about a 10-minute walk from the guesthouse, which isn't a huge deal. However, the breakfast service was a world apart from the guesthouse's excellent service. The staff didn't even lift their heads when we entered or left, completely engrossed in their TV show. And they didn't provide Wi-Fi, which I consider a very basic service, right? Also, could you please avoid serving rotten fruit to guests? The breakfast quality was more about presentation than substance; it looked good for photos, but the taste left much to be desired."

"Fantastic lodging. Best value I have had in dozens of stays. Clean, classy and large room with huge window to the main streets. Nice little hip cafe in the same hallway on the same floor. Nice bathroom, great bed.
The location is also fine, even though it is a kilometer or so to the city walls. The naming Old town guesthouse isn’t much correct, but it doesn’t matter for the overall impression of this hotel."

"A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City."

"The service was excellent: The front desk was friendly and efficient, proactively helping with luggage storage and providing helpful tips for nearby sightseeing. Any requests were quickly responded to, making me feel valued.
The room was comfortable and clean: the bedding was soft and comfortable, instantly relaxing. The room was spotlessly clean, and the separate wet and dry bathroom was stocked with high-quality toiletries. Every detail was meticulously thought out.

"You absolutely have to experience Datong's most beautiful hotel. And indeed, it lived up to expectations, incredibly photogenic.
Two Wyndham hotels share one building. To check in, head to Feng Lin Ge, where there's a giant pink diamond in front of the reception. That's where the scenic photo ops begin – every step is a new, fantastic photo opportunity.
The room was very comfortable, a stark contrast to the nightclub vibe of the public areas. Checking in also came with a great 100-60 voucher for Feng Lin Ge downstairs. The TV showed the menu and breakfast information, which was a thoughtful touch. The breakfast in the basement was pure Datong-style Dubai luxury. The dishes were comparable to what you'd find at weekend buffets in other hotels, featuring specialties from Feng Lin Ge, as well as steak and seafood. The best part was the array of beauty and wellness teas. After eating, you could easily spend a whole morning just taking pictures.
The only downsides are the lack of a gym and a swimming pool.
Getting to the ancient city requires a taxi, but thankfully, nothing is too far in Datong. It offers excellent value for money in winter."

"I had a wonderful stay at the Hampton Hotel in Datong and was genuinely impressed by the level of service and hospitality. The room was modern, spotless, and well-equipped with all the amenities you’d expect from a quality stay — comfortable bedding, fast Wi-Fi, and a clean, spacious bathroom.
What truly stood out, though, was the staff. They went above and beyond by preparing an early breakfast pack for us when we had to check out before the buffet opened — a small gesture that made a big difference. They also safely stored our luggage after checkout, allowing us to explore the city hands-free before heading to the train station.

GGuest UserI can’t stop raving about this inn. It is a B&B style three stories tall inn located inside the Datong Ancient City. Complimentary shuttle service between the airport or railway station made it really convenient for out of town travelers. The guest room was clean and equipped with modern facilities like automatic toilets, coded entry, projection screens, etc. The inn is located near the north gate of the city amongst other accommodations. Within minutes of walking is access to the top of the city wall where bike rental is available to ride along the wall. The inn is very quiet at night. The inn is family operated and everyone was very hospitable. What sets this inn apart from other accommodations in the area is their dedication to service. The owner knew I was a tourist and new to the area, she offered to pick me up if I got lost wandering the ancient city. The breakfast came with my reservation. When the owner found out I had to depart before breakfast serving hours, she went above and beyond to prepare food and served me 30 minutes ahead of schedule. The food tasted amazing and came with abundant varieties and huge portions. It was definitely not part of the service to drop off at another venue, but the owner took me to my next accommodation 2km away. I truly appreciate everything this inn and its staff has done for me. I am so glad to have chosen to stay this beautiful little inn on my first night in Datong. I will definitely stay here again without a doubt on my next visit.

GGuest UserThis hotel combines the convenience of modern high tech with the spiritual beauty of traditional culture. The rooms themselves are constructed around courtyards that give a sense of what life might have been like in Datong many centuries ago. In the lobby and in the rooms, murals decorate the walls with elegant designs of birds or flowers. The cabinets, bench, and floors made of wood and the countertops made of marble work together well and draw on design choices that are classicly, universally appealing. At the same time, the entire room is wired with the amenties of modernity. The toilet has a seat warmer and a light that turns on when you lift the lid so that you can find it in the middle of the night. Similarly, there seem to be motion-sensitive lights throughout the room that light up when you walk in the middle of the night so that you can find your way around. The water in the shower and the bathtub is able to get very hot (which I love!) and has high pressure. There is also a top-of-the-line hair dryer. It's the perfect blend of high tech and traditional amenities! If I have one complaint it's that the room was so hot that I had to open my window to let in the freezing air, and still the room was hot! That shows how effective the heating system is!
The serivce at the hotel is also extraordinary! All the members of hotel reception are very friendly. And they send someone to your room shortly after you settle in to give you a platter of fruit, which was fresh and seasonal and artistically chosen it seems. They also have 24 hours service in case you need anything. My friend went into the lobby early in the morning shouting about coffee, and the staff came out quickly to make him a cup.
The hotel is also very clean. The blankets, the pillows, and the sheets are as white as snow. The floors are free of dust and dirt and smudges. Everything in the shower and toilet room was scrubbed clean too. And the shower drains smoothly without pooling any water, showing how well it is maintained.
Finally, the location is very convenient. You can see that for yourself by just looking at the map. But I would like to add that just outside the gate of the hotel, you can see the Prince's palace, which is beautifully lit at night. What's more, my favorite restaurant in downtown Datong (I think the restaurant is translated as BeiWei Family Garden or something like that) is less than 5 minutes walking from the gate. There are also multiple shops for buying vinegar or wine or shaji snacks. In less than 10 minutes, you can also walk to all the major commercial streets. I love the location of this hotel!

GGuest UserWe took a 23-day trip through China, staying in 9 different hotels. Without hesitation, I can say that our stay at Floral stood out in many ways. First, the hotel's structure is very beautiful and has been renovated while staying true to the traditional style of the region. The hotel room itself was probably the most beautiful we had seen on our entire trip: spacious, with windows that actually opened, good air conditioning, and modern decor and furniture without being over the top. Second, the hotel's location is within the boundaries of the city wall and is part of the old town, so beautiful to walk around and see the traditional houses - many of them renovated according to the traditional style. And third and most importantly, the kindness of the people who work at the hotel. I have never felt so welcome anywhere on holiday as at this place. Unfortunately, I arrived with health problems and needed antibiotics - equivalents of the ones I had brought from Europe. I asked the reception where I could find the closest pharmacy, but rather than guiding me there, Xiao Liu, the lady at the reception, figured out for me which antibiotic would be the right one and got it for me. The same when we needed a suitcase, rather than sending me to the shop she inquired about our desired suitcase and in one hour it was there. Drinks are complementary at any time of the day, and the breakfast (Chinese and international - sandwiches) was generous and unlimited. When we were running late coming back from the grottoes and needed to catch a train, Xiao Liu helped us out by bringing us all our suitcases directly to the train station. We will never forget all these acts of kindness and we are still grateful to her and the entire hotel staff for making us feel so much at home. Datong will stay in our minds and hearts forever thanks to the people of the Floral hotel. Datong is special enough for all the incredible cultural sights you can visit - but our stay there will never be forgotten thanks to the beauty of the Floral Hotel and its amazing people. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Centrally located, the building is magnificent and our room was a dream (we were also upgraded and our room was on two levels with a nice balcony and a really spacious living area).
Staff was really helpful and kind - they also hired a driver for us since we wanted to visit Hanging Monastery directly from the high speed station, before even checking in at the hotel: they took care perfectly of our necessity and the organisation was flawless.
I really recommend this place to anybody! you will not regret it!!!

GGuest UserThe location is superb, right within the ancient city. For those driving, parking is available at the Nine Dragon Wall parking lot, just a 100-meter walk away. Despite being in a tourist area, it offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle. Guandi Temple is also conveniently located nearby. The service was excellent, and breakfast was quite good too. Both the owner and the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. Although the May Day holiday prices were significantly higher than usual, the convenience made it completely worthwhile. Highly recommended!

Great location, in the heart of the historic part of the city.. Easy to get from the southern Railway station by bus number 61. Comfortable nice room, very clean. The room has a kettle, cups, and tea bags. Girl from reception was so helpful. She has given a lot recomendation for visit attractions of Datun and has helped to find a transfer to Xuankong Si Monastery.

Location:
- Nestled a quieter part of the ancient city, that provided a peaceful retreat after each day of exploring.
- 10 minutes to some of the attractions of the old town
- 15-20 minute walk to the popular restaurants and more attractions
- 30 minute walk to Huayan Temple and its nearby street markets.
I'm always happy to walk but if needed, I could always use DiDi to take me around.
Falling asleep without street noise is something I like. There is a bit of building work going nearby, which is happening all over Datong Ancient City, but nothing too major.
Nearby is the Ancient City's wall, but walk past that and you can see the locals dance in the morning in the park or walk along the canal/moat in the evening.
Room:
The room was surprisingly spacious, offering plenty of room to spread out and relax, a welcome change from cramped city accommodations. The staircase is a bit narrow, so those with lots of big luggage might struggle (no lift)
Importantly, it was very clean and well equipped. I especially liked the Chinese tea ceremony set!
Service:
- Despite a noticeable language barrier, everyone went above and beyond with smiles, helpful gestures, and clear efforts to communicate.
- Especially the manager, who told me about local food to try, things to do and asked if I needed anything. She noticed that I was bringing back leftovers from the restaurant, and bottled drinks from the shops, and said I could use the fridge.
- I can't speak Chinese so when the delivery driver came to drop off my order, the staff will take it from the reception and bring it to me.
- Unfortunately, breakfast isn't available here
- Drinking water topped up. Humidifier and mosquito repellent were provided when needed.
I will not hesitate to book here again on my next visit and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking comfort and genuine warmth in Datong!

The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom has very good shower and drainage. The best we have seen! On top of that, we were allowed to do our laundry for free! Transport was convenient. Lots of buses around and easy to visit the tourist attractions. Highly recommend this hotel!

黄黄善博The hotel was the priciest that we stayed at during our 45 days in China, though the beds, space, and bathroom were the nicest out of them all. For the price, I would’ve hoped that the staff would’ve been a bit more helpful—no elevator and many bags to carry up the three flights of stairs was really quite difficult. The staff also don’t speak any English at all, and my friend doesn’t speak any Chinese, and we didn’t really understand that you needed to put down a deposit of 100rmb that would then be refunded to you (or that they needed a Chinese phone number too; I didn’t have one, and as a foreigner traveling through China, if I had been by myself or didn’t know or have any Chinese friends with Chinese numbers, I would’ve been unable to check-in).
The hotel was very nice nonetheless. Fantastic location, very close to everything. The walk to the old city wall took about an hour, and would’ve been a ten minute taxi ride. The street the hotel is located on is full of lots of local shops and restaurants, and feels very lively during the day. The staff was also very friendly and enjoyed speaking with the foreigner at the hotel (although I had some trouble understanding the Shanxi accent! Jin Chinese is not my strongest!).
The WiFi was a bit slow. But the beds were incredible. Huge, clean, soft. Pillows were lovely. Bathroom was huge. Just wish there’d been a bit more service from the front desk. Was a tad weird to get up at 5:50am to go to the Hanging Temple 悬空寺, which is very normal, to see the woman at the front desk asleep… it was fine, but still a bit weird.

GGuest UserIt was a very pleasant stay in the hotel. I stayed for three days and I enjoyed the comfortable and spacious room with its soft floor, the adjustable illumination and the goodies which I received daily as well as the breakfast buffet, which included a variety of Chinese food, salad, fruits, toast, cornflakes, little cakes and freshly made noodle soup.
