At Varandas de Lisboa, we believe that every stay should feel like coming home — with a touch of Lisbon’s timeless charm. Located in a 16th-century building, our apartments offer sweeping views over the Tagus River and an authentic experience in the heart of the city.
Whether visiting for leisure or work, our guests enjoy thoughtfully decorated spaces, comfort, and attention to detail, all designed to create a memorable stay. Each floor tells a story — from Alfama to Baixa and São Jorge Castle — brought to life through vintage photographs and characterful interiors.
As you walk through our corridors and step onto our balconies, you’ll feel the soul of Lisbon — its rhythm, colors, and stories — inviting you to take a piece of it with you when you leave.

Located in an old building, the hotel offers excellent service and a shared kitchen. The scenery is fantastic, and there are many restaurants nearby, close to tourist areas. There are two exits: one on the first floor with an elevator, and the other (the one shown on Google Maps) without an elevator (requiring a one-minute walk to the back of the building), somewhat like Chongqing, where one door is on top and the other on the bottom… It's very close to the beach, squares, Lisbon sculptures, the cathedral, and elevators. For those arriving from the airport with suitcases, it's best to take the red line, transfer to the green line at Alameda, then to the green line at Baixa-Chiado, and finally to the blue line at Terreio do Paço. Some online guides suggest taking the green line to Rossio, but personally, I felt that dragging a suitcase for 15 minutes on the bumpy cobblestone streets wouldn't be ideal for luggage…

Given the price, some of the issues are somewhat understandable, but the facility was significantly more dilapidated than shown in the photos, and it had a distinct odor. I was looking for an inexpensive private room, but if I had known the extent of its condition, I absolutely would have spent more money to book a different place. The chair cushions were falling apart, and the old window wouldn't open or close properly. The clothes hangers themselves looked like salvaged, dented, and paint-peeling items.

After a very stressful day of delays and cancellations at the airport it very nice to be welcomed into such a nicely managed and very clean hotel, don’t be discouraged by the appearance of the building from the outside, all I can say is once you get into your room you will be pleasantly surprised. If all that you need is somewhere to lay your weary head with WIFI included then give this one a try

Glad to know this area of Lisbon because of the hotel conversion. I think it is worth it in Lisbon with the facilities inside the hotel. Although it is in the old town of Portugal, the interior of the hotel is clean and well equipped, and the owner's intimate and delicateness can be seen everywhere. Although the price is a little higher. It is recommended that a microwave oven will be more perfect.

Amazing
WWodetianxianneMy most satisfying stay ever!
The hotel is relatively new, located north of Avenida da Liberdade. There's a metro station right outside, and if you walk down the avenue, you'll reach the old town – easily walkable if you're up for it.
The room was huge, and the 2.2-meter bed was incredibly spacious, which is a rare find in Europe! The staff were super friendly and helpful; whenever I called for water or extra blankets, they were very prompt. One day, we weren't feeling well outside the hotel, and a staff member quickly brought us tissues.
There's also a cool light show at 10 PM.
NNuannuanIt's been a while, but the memory is still vivid. The room was spacious, and breakfast was excellent – unlimited egg tarts! The capsule coffee was surprisingly good, comparable to freshly ground. Maybe I was just exhausted, but this last stop was pretty good. It started raining heavily as we left, marking the beginning of the rainy season, yet the taxi drivers didn't overcharge, which felt like a perfect ending!
I must have a soft spot for Portugal; even after 10 days, I still wanted more. So, I'm happy to express my gratitude to the places I stayed and the people who helped and served me! Wishing you all the best!
AAnonymous UserThe hotel is not located in the city, but there is a subway station that takes ten minutes' walk to the old city. It is also very convenient because there is no taxi in the city to go to the airport. The breakfast in the hotel is very good, the variety is rich and the quality is good, and the service is particularly good. SANA is a local hotel chain in Portugal, and its quality and service are quite guaranteed. The hotel is located on the flight network where planes land and take off, but the soundproofing in the room is good, which is perfect if you want to watch and take pictures of planes.
AAihechadeyangguangmaoThe location of the hotel is excellent and the facilities are very good. But the service is really bad. First, the friend's room can't be done. Find the service staff to wait for a long time! It is very troublesome to check in.
LLily&lacyIt is not soundproof at all... I am a good sleeper. I have been in Europe for more than a month. The wall of this house is like cardboard. The normal speech next door is clear, just like in the ear... day, but breakfast is delicious. Location is generally cheap after all, Lisbon taxi
GGuest UserTop-notch hotel, excellent services, cleanliness, courtesy, and helpfulness. I always have a wonderful stay when I manage to find availability at Hotel Roma.
GGuest UserThe hotel was nice and clean but the furniture and interiors seemed a bit old. The location was near the airport but a bit far from the city centre. I liked the amenities but they didn't have tissues for hand and face, only toilet paper mother than the noise of occasional airplanes the building and the surroundings were quiet. The only problem we had was that we were not given the code to the apartment building and the reception desk was located inside. Fortunately a guest came and opened it for us before we had to contact the owner.
SSefy LevyThis hostel is located about 3km walk from the center city, but does have some close by attractions (such as the Jeronimo's Monetary)
The room is extremely small, if you seat on the edge of the bed and try to stretch your legs, you'll most likely hit the wall.
We had our room replaced, as the first room had zero privacy for the toilet and the second room gave the illusion of privacy (as you can see in photos)
We've not seen any of the management, as everything is done thru WhatsApp to contact them and they will respond.
Breakfast was OK, it had a bit of choices but there was more cakes and cookies then actual food.
AAnonymous UserThe apartment itself was comfortable, and the building itself felt secure. The everyday cleaning was a nice touch, this set up combined the convenient amenities of an apartment (the kitchen and washing machine) with some of the perks of a hotel stay (bed made for you, fresh towels)
In order to access the street that the apartment is on, you need to walk past a stairwell where men like to conglomerate. We had no trouble from them, but can appreciate that this may feel intimidating.
I’d recommend this accommodation in a heartbeat to groups of mixed gender (as we were) or a boys trip, but may think again if a girls trip or young families.
AAnonymous UserThe room with bathroom inside the room with balcony.
No curtains on the beds, the light can bother, no privacy.
There is elevator, no problems with luggage.
There is a kitchen, but is closed in the night time.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
