"Service was a bit slow, but overall it was still very good. A word of caution: avoid the local brand flagship store for toiletries located about three kilometers from the hotel – the one with the huge selection. I spent over 3,000 yuan on samples there and didn't get a single free one. The hotel itself is lively, not outdated, and offers good value for money."

"Unexpected First Experiences! We check in passed 130AM and Hotel receptionist cant find our booking. After handover the booking confirmation + payment receipt, the receptionist just ask us to wait without any explanation. We need to wait for more than 60mins for them to prepare our room and handover the key to us. More unexpectedly they assigned a PWD room to us, not the room type we book we have no choice to sleep over for a night as we only managed to get to our room after 3AM and so tired of long hour travel. We requested to change room next day and being told to wait for 1 hour and again, the receptionist did not arrange new room for us and just let us wait without updates. We again request to change room on the 3rd day and finally they change to a normal room for us. Hotel management need to put in more effort to monitor your services because no guest wish to experiences this kind of unpleasant experiences."

"The location is fantastic, perfect for enjoying dinner while watching the sunset and the ebb and flow of the tide. You can also catch the occasional train passing along the coastline, which creates a beautiful scenic view in itself. I stayed here for seven nights on a business trip, and it was truly comfortable. Connected to the hotel is a shopping mall with traditional clothing, specialty teas, and cashews, among other things. The only downside is that the breakfast is too monotonous; it's pretty much the same every day with no variety. After a few days, it became unbearable."

"This hotel is truly unique, steeped in history, and they do a wonderful job of preserving its century-old heritage while still embracing the 21st century. Everything is excellent, the staff are friendly and respectful, really valuing old-school service traditions. There's even a museum showcasing famous past guests like Anton Chekhov and Yuri Gagarin. The 20-meter saltwater pool, right on the Indian Ocean, is simply fantastic for relaxing when the sea is rough. As I mentioned, the rooms are styled from the 1960s-70s, and you even get the charming creak of the floors and stairs. The hotel team clearly puts a lot of effort into maintaining the property against the forces of time and the ocean's weather. The dining experience for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is a story in itself. You can explore not just local cuisine, but dishes from across South Asia. The chefs and restaurant staff really strive to make your stay here an enriching culinary journey into local culture and traditions. If it's your first time in Sri Lanka, I highly recommend this hotel for your initial introduction to the country. Despite the cost, it offers great value, especially considering its convenient location near Colombo's main attractions."

"The hotel facilities are great, but the atmosphere was a bit tense. Overall, the hotel itself is good; the rooms and service are all up to par. However, this experience felt a bit strange. We arrived in the middle of the night, and as soon as we entered the hotel, there were two layers of security checks: first, military personnel with sniffer dogs, and then the hotel's own security. Honestly, this kind of setup made me feel a bit tense and unable to relax. I was looking forward to the sea view when I woke up, but the weather wasn't great that day; neither the sky nor the sea were very blue. The advantage of the large floor-to-ceiling windows wasn't really utilized, which was a bit disappointing. After leaving the hotel, the street outside was full of tuk-tuks, emitting a strong diesel smell. It instantly pulled me from the vacation vibe back to reality. 😑"

They made me feel welcome throughout my stay and paid attention to every detail to ensure my comfort. Overall, I would rate my experience 10/10. "The sunset from the rooftop was absolutely stunning. The breakfast spread was incredibly diverse, almost overwhelming with choices. If you're on a higher floor, I imagine the room views would be great. For those looking for a hotel stay, I'd recommend opting for the ocean view side, even if it's a bit pricier. The city view is also lovely, with sights like the Lotus Tower. Honestly, having stayed in many five-star hotels, I felt there's room for improvement in their hospitality. For instance, at breakfast, a server spilled juice on my leg while clearing the table next to me. They apologized immediately and said they'd bring napkins. However, several minutes passed, and they unbelievably started setting the adjacent table first and seated new guests. Those guests also seemed confused by the wet floor. I had to ask a different server for napkins before they finally brought them. Regarding cleanliness, the drain in the shower clogged when I took the first shower, and the water wouldn't go down. Housekeeping promptly cleaned it, but I feel this should have been taken care of before check-in. Also, there were some mysterious stains on the towels, which I think should be replaced more regularly. Other than that, the clientele staying at the hotel seemed pleasant, and my stay was comfortable. The only place to plug in Japanese appliances was in the bathroom, so a travel adapter is essential."
