5-Star Hotels in Guizhou, China

We took our one-year-old on a two-day short trip. It was a two-hour drive from Guiyang, and the roads were pretty good. As soon as we arrived at the guesthouse, we could feel the immense enthusiasm from every single staff member; the service was truly excellent! The East Restaurant has baby high chairs, and upon check-in, we received fruit and snacks. Although it was a shame that it rained constantly during our two-day stay, you could still tell the environment here is beautiful. You can feed the sika deer, and there's also a swimming pool. The indoors were also quite clean and hygienic. We definitely want to come back in the summer; it'll be perfect for photos and very relaxing!

The room was spotless, with a lovely Japanese-style feel to it. The toilet was smart, and the shower pressure was strong and invigorating. The bedsheets and duvet covers were incredibly smooth and comfortable. Although the room was a bit small, it was perfectly functional for our needs! Plus, there was an abundance of bottled water available for guests to take freely right outside the room, next to the elevator! The location truly couldn't be better – it's incredibly close to the observation deck, just a 2-minute walk away! From the parking lot, two young staff members helped us carry our luggage, and their service attitude was excellent. They were smiling and friendly the whole way, even introducing us to nearby attractions. All the attractions were within a 30-minute walk of the accommodation. There were all sorts of restaurants everywhere, and many snack stalls along the way! We tried the specialty tofu pudding, fried potato shreds, and more… There were also many massage parlors. We went for a foot bath after dinner. But the best part was: our room directly overlooked a sea of lights! We sat on the balcony sofa in the evening, at night, and in the morning, just enjoying the view! It felt almost the same as being at the observation deck itself! The hotel's restaurant also had hammocks (swings), which were super relaxing! We sat on them in the evening and in the morning – so incredibly therapeutic! The breakfast provided was also rich and varied, including pho, corn, sweet potatoes, fruit, tofu, and milk! When we left, the young staff from the guesthouse also helped us carry our luggage all the way to the parking lot. They were just as cheerful and pleasant as before!

The hotel's location is great, with a snack street and a local market right downstairs. It's also very close to Qingyun Market and MixC, making transportation convenient! The hotel facilities are complete, but the sealant in the bathroom was a bit moldy, and the soundproofing wasn't great – we could clearly hear children playing in the hallway late at night.

The hotel's location is excellent, right inside the East Gate. If you get tired from sightseeing, you can simply take the internal scenic area bus back to the hotel. We encountered heavy rain at noon, so we returned to the hotel, took a nap, and then continued our tour. Exploring from the East Gate to the West Gate was no problem and not too tiring, thankfully we listened to the hotel's front desk advice. That way, we didn't waste the park's prime location by queuing at the West Gate. The hotel facilities are quite new, and the restaurant is good too. There's also free laundry and drying. The hotel's vehicles are very convenient. I highly recommend this place for families with children who want to avoid getting too tired.

Environment: There's an underground parking lot, remember to register your license plate at the front desk. It's very close to Jiaxiu Tower, about a 7-minute walk. Facilities: The bed in the room was decent. The hotel is a bit old, opened in 2007. The showerhead and water pressure were fine. However, the window had no handle and could be pushed open. Since our room faced the street, the window couldn't be closed properly, so it was a bit noisy. Even when closed, the single-pane glass didn't provide good sound insulation. The door lock was also broken and couldn't be deadbolted. The outer doorknob was loose, which makes me think the management isn't great. Don't they inspect and fix things promptly? Breakfast was quite good, with a rich variety and decent taste. Service: The hotel front desk seemed to be misleading guests. However, the hotel's room rates are also a bit strange. The difference between a deluxe twin room and an executive deluxe twin room is that the executive deluxe twin room includes an extra afternoon tea... The hotel clearly has some newly renovated rooms and some older ones, but they don't use this distinction for pricing... Who would pay several hundred more just for your afternoon tea? I don't understand.

Close to the high-speed train station, the rooms are quite spacious, and the hygiene facilities are excellent. One of the rooms had a smoke smell, and after reporting it to the front desk, they promptly sent a Xiaomi air purifier, which perfectly solved the problem. The front desk staff were very friendly and even gave us a free room upgrade. Anshun West High-Speed Train Station pickup: The pickup service was quick, and the car was clean and odor-free.

The hotel's hardware is excellent, but its service and management get a zero. We checked in after 4 PM, and the room wasn't even ready yet. After it was finally cleaned, I walked in to find the previous guest's socks still sitting on the bedside table, as shown in picture one. It made me seriously doubt if they even cleaned it properly. The hotel's swimming pool is an Instagram hotspot, but because it's outsourced, the actual experience was a zero. There are no lockers! The entire changing room is as small as shown in picture two – that's it! The floor was covered in water and trash, and no one was cleaning it. There were no towels unless you paid 10 yuan for a disposable one, and no slippers unless you paid another 12 yuan. The breakfast was terrible, with very few options and no local specialties. Compared to other state guesthouses like the Wuxi Taihu Hotel, Nanjing Dongjiao Guesthouse, or Wuhan Donghu Hotel, the breakfast here was basically on par with a county government guesthouse. All in all, it's absolutely not worth the price. Booking the Zhijin Hotel was definitely the biggest regret of my Guizhou trip.

The greatest strength of this hotel is undoubtedly its staff. Despite language barriers, everyone we encountered was friendly, patient and genuinely eager to help. A special mention must go to the hotel manager, who went far beyond what could reasonably be expected. When we were struggling with transport arrangements, he personally offered assistance and ultimately drove us to the train station himself. Only afterwards did we discover that he was actually the hotel manager, not a driver. He refused any payment and demonstrated a level of hospitality and generosity that left a lasting impression on our family. The staff also helped us order food delivery using local apps that were difficult for us as foreign visitors to navigate, communicating through translation apps whenever necessary. The hotel is conveniently located beside the Olympic Sports Centre, which was ideal for our visit to the Asian Gymnastics Championships. The rooms were spacious and clean. However, there were several aspects of the stay that prevented it from feeling truly comfortable. The surrounding area felt unusually quiet, with many restaurants and commercial spaces appearing closed, giving parts of the district a somewhat deserted atmosphere. Dining options were limited, and finding lunch or dinner nearby was often challenging. The rooms, while large, had relatively small windows, which meant there was not much natural light. The air conditioning sometimes struggled to keep the room as cool as we would have liked, and the hot water supply was inconsistent. The beds were extremely firm, and each guest was provided with only one fairly hard pillow. Some travellers may appreciate a very firm mattress, but we found it a little uncomfortable for a longer stay. Also, we were only provided with 2 bath towels even though there were 3 of us sharing a room. Overall, this is a hotel with exceptional staff and a convenient location for events at the Sports Centre. While the accommodation itself fell short of our expectations in several areas, the kindness and professionalism of the staff left us with positive memories of our visit.

There's a reason this hotel has a 4.6 rating. The Four Points by Sheraton in Shanghai is genuinely good, with excellent service and facilities. I chose it specifically because it advertised tie-dyeing, as other high-end B&Bs also offer it, and I wanted a unique experience. However, to my surprise, the front desk informed me that the instructor was off for two days, yet the activity was still listed. They even said it was free, implying it wasn't a big deal... Ctrip was very responsible, calling me several times, and eventually arranged for two complimentary breakfasts. It's a bit of a shame I didn't get to experience the tie-dyeing. As for the facilities, they are as pictured, and the air conditioning might even be older than me! The lady at breakfast was incredibly fierce; although she didn't directly confront me, her interactions with other guests were quite rude. Many staff members seemed uninformed about things, like whether tickets could be used consecutively. The concierge at the entrance completely ignored parking, and I only got to use the shuttle once, having to take taxis for all other trips. However, the scenery at Huangguoshu is beautiful, and the staff there are exceptionally well-trained, much better than the hotel staff.

Environment: The room location is fantastic, right by the observation deck. You get panoramic views without the crowds, and the scenery outside the window is just like what you see at those popular internet-famous cafes. The scenic shuttle bus stops right at the entrance. Service: We had a one-on-one butler, Xiao Luo, who was adorable and provided incredibly thoughtful service. She picked us up from the west gate ticket office, helped with our luggage, designed our itinerary, and introduced us to the room. We received welcome fruits, a minibar, a sweet night soup (red bean paste with mini tangyuan), afternoon tea (which we didn't get to experience), Miao traditional costume experience, batik dyeing, and luggage forwarding. All in all, extremely satisfied. Facilities: The room was a loft. Downstairs was the living room, bathroom, and balcony, while the bedroom was upstairs. What's most worth mentioning is how excellent the soundproofing in the bedroom is. Despite being in an area with 'daytime coffee, nighttime drinks' establishments, it was very quiet, and we slept completely undisturbed at night. There's a small platform on the rooftop, currently under construction, but the view from there is great.
