At first, I didn't expect much from Yuyuan Garden. But the price on trip.com was more than reasonable. I decided to go and didn't regret it. It's a wonderful place, I highly recommend it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and actually spent quite a bit of time there, enjoying the garden's atmosphere.

It’s so hard to find the best season to visit Yu Garden, since you’ll see it always in its charm no matter what season you come by… that’s the secret of Yu Garden.

I list some of the highlights you might be interested in. Try to make your own decision based on these authentic references.

  • Spring (Mar – May): It’s a good season to see plum & cherry blossoms against Ming-era pavilions. Breath in the tea-scented air from Huxinting Teahouse. You can also admire the fragrant corridors, the nine-turn bridge, and spring lantern displays.
  • Summer (Jun – Aug): Although the weather is humid but the peacefulness in summer can make you suddenly fling out of the space. Take your time and enjoy the jade-green ponds, feel coolness from “Yulinglong” rock, and maybe hang around the night-lit bazaar~
  • Autumn (Sep – Nov): People who love a gilded atmosphere or are nostalgic would love coming to Yu Garden in Autumn. Get a cup of tea at the pavilions and have a little chat with your beloved.
  • Winter (Dec – Feb): You can fully enjoy the beauty of the cold that sharpens the wintersweet by lion stones and the snow-dusted rooftops. What a view! Remember to warm up with “xiao long bao” from street stalls~

Shanghai City God Temple is a great place to experience the city's traditional culture and history. The temple itself is beautifully maintained, with detailed architecture, peaceful courtyards, and a calm atmosphere despite the busy surroundings. I enjoyed walking through the nearby old streets, where there were many local snacks, souvenir shops, and traditional-style buildings to explore. It was easy to spend a few hours wandering around and taking in the lively atmosphere. The contrast between the historic temple and Shanghai's modern skyline made the visit even more memorable. Whether you're interested in culture, photography, or local food, Shanghai City God Temple is definitely worth visiting.
