It's definitely worth a visit. We took the tour on March 19th, and there weren't many people there. Boarding begins at 5:00 PM, dinner begins at 5:30 PM and lasts until 7:00 PM, after which we sail. I highly recommend the dinner! Everything was delicious, there was plenty of everything (crab claws, shrimp, various dishes, desserts, ice cream)—more than enough! Only positive emotions!

Great views and most importantly the ride on the river cruise is not crowded, would be better if the route of the cruise passes the Oriental Pearl stretch of Huangpu River.

It was a bit hazy, so it didn't show up well in photos, but it was still nice! However, if you're on a tight schedule in the morning, be careful of your legs getting numb, as you'll be standing for about an hour touring.

Top 2 Shanghai Skyline Attraction: Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower

You'll also not miss out on a visit to the Oriental Pearl Tower, one of Shanghai's most recognizable landmarks!

What to Expect:

  • Multiple observation decks, including a clear glass-floored section at 259 meters for an exciting "skywalk" experience.
  • Visit the Shanghai History Museum, located on the first floor of the Oriental Pearl Tower, where you can learn about the folk customs and habits of old Shanghai citizens.
  • Have dinner at Revolving Restaurant, best for families & couples!

Pro Tips:

  • Visit on weekdays to avoid crowds.
  • Why don't you take a combo trip to the nearby Shanghai Ocean Aquarium or Jin Mao Tower!

Well worth the time and money for a spectacular, 360 view of Shanghai. In my personal opinion, the space deck was not worth $15 for a view out of a porthole. Overall amazing!!

At this price point for both admission and the buffet, you should definitely visit at least once. You can enjoy fresh seafood and various other dishes while admiring the sunset view of the Bund. We were lucky enough to get seats facing the sunset, and after it went down, we were seated in a direction that offered a view of the spectacular nightscape, which was fantastic. As is typical for buffet food, the seasoning seemed a bit bland, but it is delicious if you make your own sauces to dip the food in. It gets so crowded that it takes about 30 minutes just to get in, so I recommend going early. It also took about 40 to 50 minutes just to get to the elevator on the way out.

It's definitely worth a visit, as there's a huge selection of food and a fantastic view of the skyline. We recommend having dinner there, as you can see all the lights.

If you are boarding after 5 PM, you need to go exchange your tickets after 4:30 PM. Since the ship is large, tickets are usually plentiful every hour unless it is a national holiday or Christmas. Please note that I rode on March 13th. The night view is really beautiful.

The river breeze was cold in early March. It was a bit chilly, but I am satisfied because the scenery on both sides was so beautiful. Since the children are short, they couldn't see from the railing because of the people, so we paid an extra 100 yuan per person to sit and watch from the VIP zone, and it was nice because there were no people.

If you book a local tour, you can only choose 7 or 8 o'clock, but this is great because you can take the next cruise right away! If you're planning to go, I recommend buying from Trip.com.

50 min cruise on the huangpu river. They board hundreds of passengers and a bit of a scramble to find a seat or a space at the top viewing platform, then another scramble to get off. There is one bar area on the second floor and two floors with indoor seating. Views of Shanghai are great, especially at night. It can get a little chilly & windy up top, so a light jacket is recommended. The price is a little expensive for what you get, but it is worth doing at least once.

Top 5 Shanghai Skyline Attraction: Jin Mao Tower

As a part of the Pudong skyline trio (alongside Shanghai Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center), Jin Mao Tower offers an observation deck on the 88th floor with breathtaking panoramic views.

What to Expect:

  • The deck provides a slightly lower but equally impressive perspective compared to the Shanghai Tower.
  • Admire its traditional Chinese aesthetics through its tiered pagoda-inspired silhouette and the use of the number 8 (considered extremely lucky to Chinese people)!
  • Less crowded than some of the other towers.

Pro Tips:

  • Consider visiting Jin Mao if you want a great view without the overwhelming crowds.
  • The tower is often included in layover tours.

Insider Tips for Capturing the Perfect Shanghai Skyline

  • Choose the best time: The Shanghai skyline night view is spectacular, but daytime offers clarity for photography. For the best of both, visit during the "blue hour" just after sunset.
  • Check the weather: Check the forecast before heading to observation decks; fog and pollution can occasionally obscure views.

Beyond Shanghai Skyline

  • Water Towns: For a contrast to the urban jungle, visit Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, known as the "Venice of the East." It offers a glimpse into old China while being just an hour from the modern skyline.
  • Cultural Integration: Pair your skyline tour with cultural experiences like enjoying traditional Yue Opera or exploring the art of Gu embroidery to appreciate Shanghai’s full depth.
