After today's guided tour of the World Architecture Exhibition, I finally understand the history and origins of each building. Professor Mao's explanations were both interesting and professional, just like the blend of ancient and modern architecture along the Huangpu River – truly excellent and highly recommended! 👍

Visiting the Bund in Shanghai was one of the most unforgettable highlights of my trip. Walking along the waterfront feels like stepping into a place where history and modern energy meet perfectly. On one side, the historic colonial-era buildings create a timeless, elegant atmosphere, while across the river the futuristic skyline of Pudong — with its iconic towers and glowing lights — feels vibrant and dynamic. The views are absolutely breathtaking, especially in the evening when the city lights come alive. Watching the illuminated skyline reflect on the Huangpu River creates a magical atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and just take it all in. The light show adds another layer of excitement, turning the entire skyline into a stunning visual display. The Bund is also perfect for a relaxed stroll, photography, or simply enjoying the energy of Shanghai. There’s always something happening — people walking, music in the background, and a lively yet romantic ambiance that captures the essence of the city.Overall, the Bund is a must-visit destination that truly showcases the beauty and spirit of Shanghai. Whether you visit during the day for the architecture or at night for the incredible lights, it’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave.

I took the evening option; the ship sails along the entire embankment, allowing you to enjoy excellent evening views of both sides of the embankment.

Top 2 Shanghai Skyline Attraction: Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower

You'll also not miss out on a visit to the Oriental Pearl Tower, one of Shanghai's most recognizable landmarks!

  • Multiple observation decks, including a clear glass-floored section at 259 meters for an exciting "skywalk" experience.
  • Visit the Shanghai History Museum, located on the first floor of the Oriental Pearl Tower, where you can learn about the folk customs and habits of old Shanghai citizens.

  • Why don't you take a combo trip to the nearby Shanghai Ocean Aquarium or Jin Mao Tower!

I was alone so this might have influenced my experience. The price was a bit steep for what it offered but it was still worth it in a way. The view was good but it was cloudy and raining. Still the view was pretty cool. Not really sure about what to feel about the price……a bit on the high side but it is Shanghai so I guess it is expected? Anyway, it is definitely more fun visiting it with someone. At least alone I just found it cool but not “funny” and “enjoyable”.

It was tall and scary, but it was definitely worth a visit~ After seeing all of the Oriental Pearl Tower, there's a museum on the first floor of that building, and it's free! Be sure to stop by~ ㅋ

Luckily, we bought this package ticket in advance. While others were still queuing in long lines at the entrance, we were able to enjoy fast-track clearance. I heard that some people queued for 5 hours that day. Although the revolving restaurant didn't meet my expectations, it was wonderful that we could leisurely eat and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Shanghai while everyone was tired and hungry.

  • Enjoy 360-degree panoramic views of Shanghai’s urban landscape, including the Huangpu River’s winding path through the city.

Pro Tips:

  • Take great photographs on clear days.
  • Visit in the late afternoon to witness the city transition from day to night; stay for the sunset and take in the glittering skyline.
  • Don’t miss the higher 119th floor for more panoramic views.

The view from the top is so majestic and lovely especially during sunset to evening when you see the bund light up. There’s just way too many people. There needs to be a crowd control. Probably also because it was during CNY week that we visited.

There were no issues with the observation deck itself. But getting a postcard was a real struggle: we were sent from store to store five times, each time having to explain what we wanted. In the end, they gave us a postcard with a photo... of the first-floor foyer of the tower, it's awful.

A truly impressive view, a must-see on your first trip to Shanghai. However, be sure to arrive well in advance of your appointment time. Your ticket isn't validated at the entrance but much later in the queue. Allow 30 minutes for safety, especially during peak times.

The cruise also offers cinema with old movies good for children and elderly people. The buffet started upon entry to the ferry and the cruise lasted for 3.5 hours. Also i wanna give a shoutout to the service in ticket area they are very accommodating. Thank you

Top 5 Shanghai Skyline Attraction: Jin Mao Tower

As a part of the Pudong skyline trio (alongside Shanghai Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center), Jin Mao Tower offers an observation deck on the 88th floor with breathtaking panoramic views.

What to Expect:

  • The deck provides a slightly lower but equally impressive perspective compared to the Shanghai Tower.
  • Admire its traditional Chinese aesthetics through its tiered pagoda-inspired silhouette and the use of the number 8 (considered extremely lucky to Chinese people)!
  • Less crowded than some of the other towers.

Pro Tips:

  • Consider visiting Jin Mao if you want a great view without the overwhelming crowds.
  • The tower is often included in layover tours.

Insider Tips for Capturing the Perfect Shanghai Skyline

  • Choose the best time: The Shanghai skyline night view is spectacular, but daytime offers clarity for photography. For the best of both, visit during the "blue hour" just after sunset.
  • Check the weather: Check the forecast before heading to observation decks; fog and pollution can occasionally obscure views.

Beyond Shanghai Skyline

  • Water Towns: For a contrast to the urban jungle, visit Zhujiajiao Ancient Town, known as the "Venice of the East." It offers a glimpse into old China while being just an hour from the modern skyline.
  • Cultural Integration: Pair your skyline tour with cultural experiences like enjoying traditional Yue Opera or exploring the art of Gu embroidery to appreciate Shanghai’s full depth.
