Guest UserThe Balmoral Hotel is absolutely superb! We arrived at 8 AM and a lovely Eastern European lady at reception warmly welcomed us and allowed us to check in immediately, saving us the hassle of storing luggage and having nowhere to go. A gentleman in a kilt even helped carry our bags to the room. Beyond the daily cleaning, the housekeeping staff thoughtfully organized all our small items, neatly tying up messy charging cables. The breakfast was lavish and incredibly delicious [strong][strong][strong]!
It's worth noting that Room 522 is where J.K. Rowling stayed while writing Harry Potter. It features a unique pink-purple door, distinct from the other white and green ones, and an owl-shaped door knocker, adding a special charm to the entire hotel. Many Harry Potter fans even pay a hefty sum to stay in Room 522 [grin][grin][grin]!

Guest UserLovely hotel in Hollyrood, Edinburgh. Not too far from the centre or masses of places to eat.
Staff were fantastic, especially during a really busy period with high expectations from tourists to the area as well.
I was travelling alone, but made to feel very welcome especially in the restaurant and bar. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Just what you need to help with your stay.
Leisure facilities were good, however, the pool area could do with a wee face lift and the addition of a steam room or jacuzzi would be beneficial for the size of/ use of the hotel. I had a hot stone massage and it was lovely and relaxing.
Shout out to Katie at the spa, Jack and John in the restaurant and the lovely gentleman who che led me in at reception.
Definitely a second stay coming up for me.

Guest UserAlthough the absolute price was a bit high, the value for money was excellent! The space was huge, equivalent to two bedrooms with bathtubs, plus an oversized living room, hallway, and walk-in closet. Gin, whiskey, vodka, cola, designated beers, and other drinks were all free to enjoy. There was twice-daily housekeeping service, and coffee capsules were refilled constantly. I was very satisfied. However, the hotel overall felt a bit dated. The main entrance surprisingly didn't lead to the lobby; it seemed to be more focused on dining and the spa. The actual lobby was hidden on the basement level with no signs.

Sesha.KanduriWithout doubt, this was one of our finest hotel stays in recent memory. From the moment we arrived, Novotel Edinburgh set the tone with a level of warmth and professionalism that genuinely stood out. The staff were incredibly helpful throughout and what really demonstrated this was a small but telling moment: we lost our key card during the stay, and it was replaced immediately, without any fuss or inconvenience whatsoever. It's the kind of effortless service that puts you completely at ease, and it's something you remember long after checkout.
The breakfast deserves a special mention — it was simply top notch. The spread was so good that holding back was near impossible, and it's the kind of breakfast that makes you actually look forward to the morning. Freshly prepared, well-stocked, and served with care — it's one of the best hotel breakfasts we've had.
The location is outstanding. Sitting just a mile from Edinburgh Castle, you're right in the heart of one of the most iconic cities in the UK. Public transport couldn't be more convenient either buses are accessible right behind the hotel, making it incredibly easy to get around the city without needing a car at all.
The one area that needs addressing is parking. The hotel's own car park is frequently full, which meant we had to use the nearby NCP instead. To the hotel's credit, they did provide a discount for the NCP - a thoughtful gesture that softened the inconvenience. However, it's worth noting for electric vehicle drivers: the EV charging at the NCP is painfully slow, so factor that into your plans if you're arriving in an electric car. A heads-up from the hotel at check-in would go a long way.
Parking frustrations aside, Novotel Edinburgh is a brilliant base for exploring the city - exceptional staff, an unmissable breakfast, and a location that's hard to beat. We'd return without hesitation.
