SShengjiyouxiang1858When the quaint Wuzhen-like water town, with its grey bricks and black tiles, dons its Christmas attire, winter is no longer just a monotonous white. Beautifully decorated Christmas trees and lights as dazzling as a starry river transform the scene. To experience the unique charm of a northern water town, my family and I stayed at the Gubei Star Hotel in Gubei Water Town. To my surprise, we encountered one pleasant surprise after another! 💕 1️⃣ Gubei Water Town offered free admission throughout December! 🎫 That saved us over 200 CNY for two people. 2️⃣ Free shuttle bus rides made exploring the water town a breeze. 🚌 3️⃣ Drone shows, light displays, and musical fountain shows were all free of charge. 4️⃣ We received complimentary hot spring tickets, 🛁 allowing us to enjoy a warm soak in the winter. ♨️ 📍 Gubei Star Hotel boasts an excellent location, just a five-minute walk from Riyue Island. 🏠 The hotel has over 300 rooms, possibly making it the largest hotel within the scenic area. Our room was incredibly spacious, bright, elegant, and fresh. 🛏️ The bedding was clean, tidy, soft, and comfortable. ☕️ The room even had a capsule coffee machine with two complimentary coffee capsules. 🛋️ Next to the window, there was a small side table beside the sofa, perfect for writing or holding books and coffee – very practical. 🖼️ The lobby had several elegant and comfortable seating areas. 🍛 Breakfast was absolutely fantastic with a wide variety of choices – a must-try! Check-in was quick and convenient, and the hotel staff were warm, thoughtful, and meticulous. We even received a complimentary room upgrade this time, offering views of the Yuantong Pagoda and the surrounding night scenery. We were absolutely thrilled! 🥳

AAnonymous UserStayed for 2 nights in Oct 2024, planned for 1 night to visit around the town itself and another night for the Simatai Great Wall. 1. Location - Inn is located within Gubei Watertown and it is necessary to go through the watertown to visit the Simatai Great Wall. By booking an accommodation within the town gives you discounted entrance price into the town and since we planned to visit the great wall and explore the town itself we have decided to stay for 2 nights (also partly the cost and time to travel there from Beijing). Inn is located near the main square where some performances are held and near a shuttle service stop (free shuttle services within town if you’re staying in an accommodation within town. Overall a good location within town. 2. Room - Booked a family room for 4 (2 single beds in each level). Room is mostly made of wood hence its not really a modern feel and its not really sound-proof which the staff has notified in advance. Room is spacious and bathroom is big. Stairs that goes up to the 2nd level is stable but can be a little steep for seniors. Overall the room is decent. It comes with tomatoes, peanuts and tea as welcome gift. 3. Luggage - There’s a luggage service whereby you can arrange for your luggage to be transported to your hotel from entrance, and from hotel back to entrance. This is definitely needed as the ground in the watertown is not a smooth surface and can be hard to carry your luggages around. 4. Services & breakfast - Staff’s services is really good and efficient! Breakfast is simple but has good variety. There’s the buffet portion which consists of small dishes for porridge, bread, bun, drinks etc. And there’s an alacarte portion where you need to order in advance the night before such as bacon, egg, sausages, noodles etc. i think its a good initiative to avoid wastage. Overall a very good stay and would recommend if you are visiting Gubei Watertown and would like to stay in a more traditional feel.

MM249140****This hotel is truly beautiful and cozy. At night, you can see a sky full of stars, and during the day, it's the incredibly spectacular Shuiguan Great Wall! It's not crowded, and the angles are perfect for taking photos, haha. The rooms offer great privacy and soundproofing. The food and afternoon tea at the hotel are also exceptionally delicious. It was so relaxing chatting with my family while enjoying the hot spring. In the evening, the butler even helped us light the fireplace, which created a wonderful ambiance. The service was very thoughtful!

GGuest UserXiao Wang was enthusiastic and attentive, specifically arranging a League of Legends themed room for my son. They also provided shuttle service to and from the parking lot and recommended the cooperating Mingyue Restaurant – the dishes were plentiful and delicious (my little one loved the fried river shrimp and egg fried rice), and the restaurant even sent a car to pick us up. Overall, it was a great experience!

GGuest UserGubei Watertown Hotel is the best choice we ever made for Gubei trip! The hotel came with the package of spacious room overseeing Simatai Great Wall, unlimited entrance access to Watertown via face recognition, 1 afternoon tea at QingYe Inn (we were pleasantly surprised with the food that they served!), 1 Chinese tea 禅茶with cookies/ fruits n nuts in TongYuan pagoda. We stayed 3D2N in this lovely serene town during this freezy winter but we were paid off with no crowd and zen feel. Breakfast choice is superb based on the varieties that they prepared. Simatai Great Wall is just walking distance but we go with free shuttle service since we are the hotel guests. Simatai Great Wall ticket with 2 way cable car cost CNY220 for day trip. Simatai Great Wall also has night view with cable car cost CNY200 but if you are the hotel guest then special rate at CNY120. It is the only Great Wall that has night view n it is lovely n touching to see Gubei town at night from top of Great Wall. After night Great Wall, we went to sauna spa (voucher provided in hotel package 🥰) n the pool overlooking Great Wall, lovely isn’t it? I want to specifically thank the hotel staff 冀英杰being super helpful to show us the room, recommended the best food, showing the way of work for Great Wall route n he was the one who highly recommend Great Wall night view and I truly appreciate it. He has also helped me to get the money changing since we are back to Beijing via bus, also helping us to keep the luggage after check out as we are walking around to wait for 5pm bus. Overall, I really felt happy to choose this hotel with full package which cost optimal with quality stay. What a memorable trip in Gubei!

GGuest UserVery clean homestay, the owner and his wife are very enthusiastic. Good location, 3 minutes walk from the ski resort, you can see the snow field on the balcony, the floor heating is very sufficient, and the indoor half-sleeves can be. Tired of playing, come back for a hot pot, laugh and laugh.

MM303531****This hotel is great for a weekend getaway with kids. Juyongguan Great Wall and Shuiguan Great Wall are nearby, with Shuiguan Great Wall being closer and less crowded, though a bit challenging to climb. The hotel is nestled in the mountains, offering a pleasant environment with individual villas dotted up the hillside. Our room was quite far, so we needed to drive to the lobby and restaurant. The hotel also offers many family-friendly activities. On our second morning, we participated in a valley hike, which was essentially a mountain climb – it requires some stamina. There were also quite a few downsides. Given how spread out the rooms are and how far they are from the lobby, one would expect butler service, but there was none. Moreover, it was very difficult to get through to the front desk from the room phone. For a self-proclaimed 'family-friendly hotel,' there weren't even children's slippers in the room. After finally getting through on the phone, it took an hour for them to be delivered. Why weren't they provided directly at check-in when they saw we had a child? The room itself was fairly large, but the bathroom lacked air conditioning/heating, and the shower was open-concept. This design might be fine in Sanya, but in Yanqing, showering at night was absolutely freezing. There was also water pooling, and when staff came to check, they said it was because the floor drain was too high, and nothing could be done, which was a bit frustrating. We had two meals at the hotel restaurant; the food was good, albeit a bit pricey. We also ate at a farmhouse restaurant down the mountain where the iron pot stewed fish was delicious – I forgot its name, but it had “Tell Old Mo I want to eat fish” written on the wall. Despite the downsides, it's still a good place for a weekend with kids. The hotel has an outdoor pool and a children's splash pool, which were closed due to the cold weather. We'll definitely bring the kids back in the summer.

AAnonymous UserThis trip to Gubei Water Town completely exceeded my expectations! The Gubei Starry Sky Villa is an absolute hidden gem in the water town, deserving of five stars for every single detail. ✨ A View Where Stars and the Great Wall Dance True to its name, the villa's most stunning feature is the starry sky terrace at night. Looking up, the brilliant Milky Way is unobstructed, and the silhouette of the Simatai Great Wall subtly appears in the distance. Lying on a lounge chair, it feels as if you can touch the stars. Waking up in the morning to the mountain mist and the Great Wall bathed in dawn light—this breathtaking fusion of nature and culture is something a camera simply cannot capture. 🏡 Thoughtful Design in Every Detail The villa perfectly blends the rustic simplicity of northern folk dwellings with modern comfort. Wooden beams, stone walls, and a fireplace exude charm, while smart sanitary ware, underfloor heating, and brand-name bedding ensure ultimate comfort. The most considerate touch is that each room offers a unique viewing angle, so whether it's a family trip or a gathering of friends, everyone can find their own special spot. 🍵 Butler Service as Warm as Coming Home From booking confirmation to check-out, the butler's responses were timely and thorough. Upon check-in, seasonal fruits and handmade pastries were prepared. Returning late from sightseeing, a thoughtful, warm dessert soup was delivered. Help with itinerary planning, ticket reservations, and even tips for photographing the starry sky were provided with warmth and a personal touch. 📍 Perfect Location Just a 5-minute walk directly to the main street of the water town, yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Whether it's going to Riyue Island to watch the drone show, soaking in the hot springs, or climbing the Great Wall, everything feels as convenient as being home. The alley where the villa is located is quiet and private; at night, only the sound of the wind and insects can be heard, truly achieving the ideal of a 'peaceful retreat in a bustling area.' 🌟 Experience Enhanced Beyond Expectation The complimentary Hanfu photo props, a stargazing telescope, and a Great Wall-view afternoon tea set all added poetic charm to the trip. Upon leaving, we also received a handmade Simatai Great Wall souvenir bookmark; this thoughtful gesture brought a warm conclusion to our journey. If Gubei Water Town is the pinnacle of suburban getaways near Beijing, then Gubei Starry Sky Villa is the starry window on that pinnacle—it makes you believe that poetry and distant lands can indeed be possessed simultaneously. I've already made plans with friends to return here and 'live into autumn' when the maple leaves turn red!

MM44733****I was very satisfied with my stay at the hotel this time. The view from the balcony was great, and I got to enjoy the hot springs and swimming multiple times. The complimentary travel photoshoot was also fantastic. The photographer was excellent at guiding poses, and the final pictures turned out beautifully. I took the photos inside the hotel because it was too cold outside, and the photographer created a really rich variety of shooting scenarios. This two-day, one-night weekend getaway was extremely satisfying. Highly recommend!
