Guiyang Spring Weather Overview, What to Wear, and Travel Tips

Weather Overview

Spring (March to May) brings warmer weather, with average temperatures ranging from 8°C to 24°C, and humidity gradually rises. Rainfall becomes more frequent, especially in April. Overall, the climate is comfortable, but there’s a big swing between day and night temperatures, and occasional late-spring cold snaps, so be sure to keep warm.

Guiyang Forest Park

Guiyang Forest Park

What to Wear Guide

In spring, we recommend dressing in layers: during the day, wear a long-sleeve shirt with a light jacket, and when temperatures are lower in the early morning and evening, add a knit sweater or a windbreaker. For footwear, opt for slip-resistant sneakers or lightweight waterproof hiking shoes to handle the occasional wet, slippery paths.

Travel Tips

Spring is the perfect time to explore Guiyang’s natural side; when you head out, bring a compact umbrella or a lightweight rain jacket to prepare for sudden showers. If you’re planning a spring outing in the countryside, choose a clear day and check the weather forecast in advance to avoid low visibility on rainy or foggy days.

Top Spots to Explore

  • Qianling Mountain Park: In spring, wildflowers burst into bloom; hike the trails uphill for panoramic views and take in the beautiful blend of city and nature.
  • Guiyang Forest Park: With lush greenery and fresh, clean air, it's a favorite for springtime outings and picnics.

It is a massive park, but be prepared for the crowds! I went at summer break and the number of people there was beyond belief. If you want to see the pandas, be prepared for quite a bit of walking uphill. Suggestion is to let the bulk of the crowd pass at opening at 10:00am and then make your way up. If you need an accessible bathroom, I don’t remember seeing one at all as we were walking around, so be prepared for only squatties. Look up for the wild monkeys, but please remember these are wild animals and not pets. If you see a clump of people on the paths stopped, expect that the monkeys are nearby. We had a blast watching them jump and fall into the water. Bring water and be prepared to do a lot of uphill walking.

Guiyang Summer Weather Overview, What to Wear, and Travel Tips

Weather Overview

Summer (June to August) is mild, with few scorching days and average temperatures around 19°C to 28°C. Thunderstorms are relatively frequent, and brief afternoon showers are common; the air is humid and feels refreshingly cool. Thanks to its higher elevation, Guiyang is known as one of China’s top places to beat the heat.

Huaxi Park

Huaxi Park

What to Wear Guide

We recommend wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt with lightweight long pants or casual shorts. Bring a light jacket for early mornings or air-conditioned spaces. If you're traveling during the rainy season, pack quick-dry clothing and waterproof shoes.

Travel Tips

Summer is a great time for a cool escape, especially to the surrounding natural scenic areas. After rain, paths can be slippery, so for outdoor activities it’s best to avoid steep slopes and muddy trails. We recommend keeping insect repellent and moisturizer with you to avoid bites from mosquitoes and other bugs in forested areas.

Top Spots to Explore

  • Huaxi Park: With crisscrossing waterways, leafy shade, and pleasantly cool weather, it's a perfect spot to beat the summer heat.
  • Tianhetan Scenic Area: hop on a boat, take in cascading waterfalls, and make your way through karst caves, all while savoring mountain-and-river scenery and the refreshing cool air.

Guiyang Autumn Weather Overview, What to Wear, and Travel Tips

Weather Overview

In autumn (September to November), temperatures shift from warm to cool, averaging about 8°C to 25°C. Humidity gradually decreases and the weather turns drier. With longer daylight hours and fewer clouds and fog, it’s one of the best times of the year to visit.

Qingyan Ancient Town

Qingyan Ancient Town

What to Wear

We recommend wearing a light long-sleeved shirt, a knit sweater, and a lightweight jacket. Temperatures can vary quite a bit between morning and evening, so plan to layer up to stay warm. For footwear, choose comfortable, non-slip shoes to handle outdoor activities.

Travel Tips

Autumn is perfect for day trips, hiking, and leaf-peeping. Keep your itinerary a bit flexible to avoid peak crowds on holidays and weekends. If you’re heading to plateaus or mountain regions, check transportation and weather in advance in case of early frost or sudden temperature drops in the mountains.

Top Spots to Explore

  • Qingyan Ancient Town: Featuring remarkably well-preserved Ming- and Qing-era architecture and stone-paved streets, it exudes old-world charm in the autumn sunlight.
  • Miao Village at Hongfeng Lake Scenic Area: Starting in October, the leaves turn red and the lake's reflections look like a painting, making it a popular hotspot for fall outings and photography.

In winter, when visiting the mountains to see the snow, the park's shuttle bus takes you directly to the halfway point, saving you from climbing steep slopes. The trails are cleared of snow, making them slippery, and you can stop anywhere to take photos. Everything is a blanket of white, with snowdrifts hanging from the branches, like trees covered in cotton. At the summit, they sell hot brown sugar ginger tea for ten yuan a cup; it warms you right up. I took many photos of the pristine snowscape. This trip was incredibly easy and much safer and more comfortable than driving yourself and finding unpaved roads.

Qingyan Ancient Town is small but beautiful, especially the city wall. The tail end was under repair when I went there. I didn't walk the whole way. There is a short section that is very steep. Elderly people with poor legs and feet should be careful. The scenery above is good, there is a viewing platform, a canteen and a toilet! There is everything an ancient town should have! The ancient town is a mountain town, so it is inevitable to go up and down. Please be careful to slow down on rainy days.

On the last day of my trip to Guizhou, I went to Qingyan Ancient Town. Two hours was not enough to visit. There were so many shops inside, most of which sold silverware, medicinal materials, and some Guizhou-style snacks, such as Bobo candy, chicken spicy corners, beef jerky, etc. It was suitable for a day of sightseeing. But I would like to say that the Wanshou Palace inside was a bit of a scam. After entering, the sister who checked the tickets said that she could help explain it, and then slowly took you to a side hall, asked you to take a brocade bag to ask your own five elements, and arranged for a Taoist priest to interpret the fortune for you, but! ! There is a fee, and they don’t tell you in advance! ! When the chat is almost over, they will ask you for 299 or 399 yuan, and tell you to make good connections or resolve the Tai Sui or something. Be careful when you go in to visit~ If you are really asking for fortunes, it doesn’t matter~

Qingyan Ancient Town is located in the southern part of Huaxi District, Guiyang City. It was built in 1378 and has since undergone several renovations and expansions. Many places inside are paved with stones, including walls, houses, streets, etc., which can be seen everywhere. The architecture of the entire street is more inclined to the Ming and Qing styles. For travelers who like to visit ancient towns, this is a place that should not be missed.

Qingyan Ancient Town, located in Guiyang City, is one of the four ancient towns in Guizhou. The ancient buildings inside make visitors feel as if they are traveling back in time, looking at the past history and learning about the stories of the past. There are many attractions worth visiting, including Wanshou Palace, Dingguang Gate, Wenchang Pavilion, the former residence of Premier Zhou’s father, etc. The ticket price is not expensive, about 60 RMB.

What to Wear

We recommend bundling up with a down jacket, sweaters, a scarf, and thermal pants. With the air on the humid side, stay warm and keep moisture out to ward off damp chills. For footwear, choose warm, slip-resistant shoes.

Travel Tips

For winter trips, focus on indoor-friendly activities such as museums and historic old towns. If you're heading to hot spring areas or ethnic minority villages, bring a dry change of clothes. Day-to-night temperature swings are significant, so add or shed layers as needed.

In autumn, go chestnut picking. The chestnut groves are at the foot of the mountain, and the paths are flat and easy to walk on. The vendors will give you bags and tongs. You can pick up any chestnuts that have fallen on the ground; those with cracked shells are ripe, and once peeled open, you'll find golden chestnut kernels. You can fill a small bag with chestnuts in an afternoon. They charge by weight, which is cheaper than at the market. When you get home, you can cook sweet rice noodles and enjoy picking chestnuts slowly while feeling the mountain breeze. It's more interesting than sitting at home watching TV, and it also gives you some exercise.

The hotel lobby is grand and impressive. Although the hotel shows its age a bit, the service is warm and friendly, the rooms are clean and well-maintained, and the facilities are in good working order. Breakfast is quite rich and varied. However, during my stay, there was an event going on, so there were a huge number of people at breakfast, which slightly detracted from the experience.

My experience during this trip to Guiyang for the Mayday concert was absolutely fantastic! I originally picked this hotel just for its close proximity to the Olympic Sports Center, thinking that even with traffic, it would only be about a twenty-minute walk. However, after checking in, I was met with one pleasant surprise after another! The moment I arrived at the main entrance, a bellboy enthusiastically came forward to help with my luggage. I quickly told him 'No need,' but he insisted on helping, which was incredibly thoughtful. At the front desk during check-in, the staff member noticed my outfit and proactively asked, 'Are you here for the concert?' I confirmed that I was, and to my delight, he informed me that the hotel had organized dedicated shuttle buses for concert attendees, offering round-trip transfers. This meant I wouldn't have to worry about finding a taxi or dealing with traffic jams during peak hours! On top of that, they even gave me a concert support kit containing a water pouch, bottled water, and tissues – truly exceptional service! The front desk staff also arranged my room based on my request and even added me to a dedicated group chat for concert shuttle services. The duty manager in the group was incredibly attentive, constantly seeking feedback from guests, coordinating pick-up and drop-off times and locations, and even thoughtfully sharing navigation pins. Everything was perfectly organized! My concert trip to Guiyang was truly made perfect by the Guiyang Century Golden Resources Hotel. I will definitely choose to stay here again if I have the chance to visit in the future!

The hotel's location is excellent, right in the city center, a recommendation from my friends in Guiyang. It's close to various snack streets, Jiaxiu Tower, and shopping malls, which is very convenient. It's also easy to get a taxi to the museum in the new district. There's a large underground passage next to the hotel for crossing the street, which features various snacks. I bought some chestnut and mung bean cakes there, and they were delicious and fresh. In the mornings, many people exercise at the Dashi Zi Square. Both the room and front desk service were great. Our flight was quite late, and they kindly allowed us a late check-out, which was very thoughtful. I really liked the clothes hanger rack on the window in the king room – a nice touch. The shower curtain was on the outside, and I only noticed it right before checking out. It might be better if there was a note on the button to remind guests. Overall, I'm very satisfied.

I arrived at the hotel around 6 PM, and the air conditioning in my room was broken. After a lot of hassle, I finally got a new room around 10 PM, but the AC in that one had a terrible, musty and smoky smell. Picture one shows the restaurant, and for a supposed 128 RMB breakfast, it offered instant fried noodles and similar items – definitely not what you'd expect from a five-star hotel. The zoo next to the restaurant was a novel idea though, and one of the staff members there was very nice. However, I think the hotel should focus more on its core business. I wanted to go to the pool on the 5th floor, but you have to walk through a row of shops to get there, making me wonder if it's outsourced. It felt less like a hotel and more like an old-fashioned entertainment arcade. The lifeguard at the pool was even on their phone with headphones on… The management of this hotel really isn't five-star quality. Accor's standards are far too inconsistent.

The disposable amenities provided were incredibly comprehensive, very thoughtful and considerate. Check-in was hassle-free. The breakfast selection wasn't huge, but everything tasted good. Kempinski lives up to all the expectations of a five-star hotel, not necessarily in terms of luxury, but because there's simply nothing wrong with it. Everything works, which isn't always easy to achieve. However, these expectations are based on my younger days traveling for business around the turn of the century. For instance, the lack of a coffee machine, with only instant coffee available, feels a bit too 'classic' now. The power outlets aren't very convenient for larger chargers, as there isn't enough space around them. In one of our rooms, the shower was right next to the bathtub without a separate enclosure. Also, the elevators were quite slow. The location and orientation are excellent. One room had a floor-to-ceiling window directly overlooking Jiaxiu Tower on the Nanming River, with a view of Guanfeng Pavilion too. A shopping mall is right next to the hotel, and Wenchang Pavilion and Minsheng Road Food Street are just a ten-minute walk away. Breakfast hours are extended, and the food selection is abundant; there were even five types of porridge alone. The management is very well-organized.

What impressed me most about my stay at the Sofitel wasn't the bedding or the breakfast, but the view outside the window. I checked into a high-floor city view room, and when I pulled back the electric curtains, I was genuinely stunned—the entire city stretched out below me. During the day, the buildings and river were clearly defined, and as dusk fell, the lights gradually twinkled on. Jiaxiu Tower was right before my eyes. Sitting by the window, staring blankly for half an hour didn't feel like a waste at all. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the 55th-floor Sky Lobby offered an even more spectacular view; I took over a dozen photos while checking in. The French decor already has a sophisticated feel, and paired with this skyline night view, it truly felt like 'money well spent for a good mood.' I'd be willing to come back just for this view.

I absolutely have to write a lengthy review to express my gratitude to the staff at the Guizhou Hotel VIP Building, especially Lobby Manager Mei'ao and front desk agent Xiao Shi. They made my trip to Guiyang warm and full of pleasant surprises from the very moment I stepped into the hotel. First, let me talk about Manager Mei'ao, who impressed me the most. That day, I accidentally navigated to the 'Yingbin Building' and was feeling a bit lost. Mei'ao proactively approached me. Upon learning I was checking into the VIP Building, she didn't just point the way. Instead, she smiled and said, 'I'll take you there.' She then accompanied me the entire way, explaining the layout of the two buildings and the hotel's features as we walked. Once we reached the VIP Building lobby, she assisted me with the check-in process, which was incredibly efficient. What's even more thoughtful is that after completing the formalities, she didn't stop there. She personally arranged for a staff member to escort me to my room and carefully informed me about the luggage delivery time. This seamless service, 'from Yingbin Building to VIP Building,' instantly made me feel the professionalism and warmth of a five-star hotel. After I entered my room, Mei'ao even called to inquire if everything was satisfactory and enthusiastically recommended local dining and sightseeing tips – from authentic sour soup beef restaurants nearby to jogging routes in Qianling Park and even the best angles for night photos at Jiaxiu Tower. She shared all this information like a local friend pouring out their heart. This level of dedication, going beyond her job description, was truly touching. At the same time, I must sincerely commend front desk agent Xiao Shi. She always wore a sweet smile during check-in, patiently verified my information, and proactively informed me about breakfast times, gym location, and other important details. Even with a queue of guests behind me, she remained calm and organized, making everyone feel comfortable. Later, when I asked her for bus routes while heading out, she clearly marked Bus No. 1 for me, showing great attention to detail. And then there's the hotel itself – the hardware of the VIP Building is impeccable. The rooms are spacious and bright with excellent views, and the price offers great value for money. But what truly moved me were these warm service details. From the encounter at the Yingbin Building to settling in at the VIP Building, Mei'ao and Xiao Shi, with their sincerity and professionalism, perfectly demonstrated what 'a home away from home' truly means. Next time I visit Guiyang, I will definitely choose the Guizhou Hotel VIP Building again. Thank you, Mei'ao and Xiao Shi; you are the hotel's brightest stars!

The hotel's location is absolutely fantastic, right in Guiyang's traditional city center. Downstairs, there's a popular night market with street food stalls that are a hit with locals and tourists alike. As soon as night falls, it gets incredibly lively and bustling. The hotel itself has been recently renovated and is very nice and clean. I booked a king-size bed room and was upgraded to a suite upon arrival, which was a pleasant surprise. The hotel's service is also very prompt; whatever we needed for the room, we'd just call the front desk and service staff would be at our door within minutes.

This has to be the most ridiculous hotel I've ever stayed in; I genuinely wondered if it was a fake Accor property. The Wi-Fi in the room was practically non-existent, and even my own 5G network only had two bars. Were they worried guests would get too addicted to the internet to rest properly? In the king-size room, there was only one power outlet on one side of the bed, but the plug wouldn't fit. I called the front desk, and a maintenance person came to fix it. With two people staying, one of us was forced to use the outlet next to the kettle. That plug fit, but then it turned out there was no power. I couldn't be bothered to call maintenance again, so I started searching for other outlets. After a long search, I finally found one hidden in a crevice near the TV (see photo below) – two outlets barely visible, tucked into the wall. After washing my hair, I wanted to use the hairdryer, only to find that neither of the two outlets in the bathroom worked. Frustrated, I had to take the hairdryer back to the crevice by the TV to dry my hair. Later that night, I was thirsty and wanted some water. I figured I'd ask for two bottles at the front desk since I was passing by. The front desk said a robot would deliver them. I didn't understand why, as there was bottled water right there, and they could have just given it to me directly. Maybe the staff thought it would be too heavy for me to carry? OK, so I went upstairs. I waited a long time, but no water arrived. After showering, still nothing. I was about to go to sleep, and it still hadn't come. I called twice to follow up, to no avail. An hour had passed since I requested the water – I could have ordered delivery and gotten water faster! Also, the shower drain was clogged. I was afraid to shower for too long, fearing I'd flood the room. In my family's other room, the air conditioning was broken and also needed a technician to come and fix it on the spot. Seriously, avoid this hotel. You'll find everything is broken and needs immediate repair. For equipment, 0.5 stars would be too generous. The stay was a terrible experience!

My stay at Guiyang Wanxiang Hot Spring Resort was absolutely fantastic! The hotel's attached hot spring is definitely the highlight; it was incredibly relaxing after a long day of work. The room was clean and tidy, spacious, and the bedding was soft and comfortable. The soundproofing was excellent too. The front desk staff were very warm and attentive, check-in was efficient, and they were always available when needed. The buffet breakfast offered a wide variety of delicious options. The environment is serene and quiet, making it perfect for both leisure and business. It's a great choice for relaxing after a business trip, and overall, it offers excellent value for money. My stay at the Poly International Hot Spring Hotel's King Room was absolutely perfect! The service was attentive throughout: the front desk staff were warm and efficient, greeting guests and checking us in quickly. Room service was prompt and responsive to our needs, and we even received complimentary fresh fruit upon arrival – such thoughtful touches. The package included unlimited access to the hot springs for two, featuring deep natural spring water and a variety of indoor and outdoor pools with different benefits (like herbal baths and petal pools). After a soak, my skin felt smooth, and all my fatigue melted away. The breakfast spread was extensive, a great mix of Western and Chinese options, including local specialties, and everything tasted delicious.

The hotel boasts a tranquil environment, pleasant rooms, and fresh air. Upon check-in, a butler greets you with rose petals and fresh fruit – excellent service! A cleaning lady provided detailed answers to all your questions (her name is ”Yang Jie” in the last picture), which deserves praise. This room type includes one free entry to the public hot spring bath, which is staffed on a rotating basis. They proactively offer ginger tea/water, providing excellent service. The only downside is the lack of nearby attractions, only a small supermarket and some foot massage shops. If you arrive by high-speed rail, this hotel is ideal for a one-night stay. It's only a 15-minute taxi ride from Guiyang East Station, making it a highly recommended choice.

I just found out that there is such a comfortable hot spring hotel in Guiyang. I don't have to go far to other counties and cities to soak in hot springs anymore! ! The location of the hot spring is really good. I booked a villa with private hot springs. Parking is very convenient. Each room type is equipped with an exclusive parking space. You can park directly and enter the house like a small villa. It is also very close to the public hot spring area from the room, so you don't have to walk for a long time in the cold. It is even more convenient to order takeout supper at night. These two points are simply incomparable to other hot springs in the province. It is suitable for lazy people to go out and relax. The service is also very good. It was cold these two days. The housekeeper Xiaowen asked about the check-in time in advance. When I entered the room, the air conditioner had been turned on for a long time. This is really the service standard of star hotels and resort hotels. The welcome fruit and mini bar are good and generous The hygiene is good, the bedding is very comfortable, and children's bathrobes, slippers and toothbrushes are prepared for children It is worth mentioning the breakfast. Other hot spring breakfasts in Guizhou Province are really perfunctory. This one is very attentive. The total number is not large, but the categories are basically covered, and the taste is also very good, especially the glutinous rice. I really want to secretly take a bag to pack it up! ! ! The restaurant is clean and neat, which refreshed my impression of hot spring hotels in the province. It can really be a benchmark, even better than some star-rated hotels The private hot spring water is also very comfortable. I didn’t take too many photos because I was enjoying it all the time~ It has been listed as a place for relaxation on weekends by our family. It is close and good. I really recommend it! ! ! !

Pros: -Very friendly staff and efficient service all around -Lots of complimentary activities throughout the day (The evening tour of Qingyan was definitely a highlight of my trip) -The exteriors of the hotels from the walls to the courtyards are all very picturesque -The lobby offers tea and some small local snacks -Clean room with lots of amenities - the robes were very soft Cons: -Terrible soundproofing: I could hear my neighbours slam their doors starting around 6AM in the morning. -Some small repairs are needed: the peephole cover was loose (I used tissue paper to cover the hole throughout the night, and the shower button was a bit loose so it was hard to adjust to the shower head that I wanted to use)

Advantages: Service: The most commendable thing is the service of the hotel. Miss Judy added WeChat at the front desk. If you have any needs during your stay, you will respond at any time and send breakfast. The aunt and eldest sister who cleaned up the room were also very caring, and they would take the initiative to greet them when they met in the corridor. Takeaways can be delivered to the door of the room by robots. Environment: The breakfast and dining environment is good. Although the variety is not too much, the variety is complete. It is very good in this level hotel. The ingredients are clean and fresh. Every morning, I will go to show a bowl of beef noodles and eat some vegetables and fruits. ➡️ BTW, every day I come back, the room will be intimately put on yogurt and fruit, contracted the fruit every day during my stay 🍐🍊 Disadvantages: The location of the hotel is far from the subway station, maybe more than 1 km, about 25 minutes walk to the city government, shopping and dining in the surrounding business districts is slightly biased, but business trips are enough. I also hope that the door to the outdoor safe escape stairs can be closed at night. In addition, staying in a business-oriented business hotel, reminding all young ladies that it is best to bring their own shower gel, shampoo, slippers (yes, but not disposable), which is purely personal habits.
